I have played through twice and have picked either, but this is my first Hard\classic play through. So... Which is better?

Oh, this. After some internet research I learned the general consensus is sonya is better because
(A)She has more "plot" relevance
(B)She is apparently stronger.
(C)Celica's. Team apparently needs more mages.

it's probably not a big deal who you pick
by the time you can get them, you already have access to 3 merc class units and 3 mages, so it's not like you're getting something all that new from either of them, I doubt that not picking the "right" one will really screw you over later in the game
but if your mercs have all ended up not good and you feel you need one, go for Deen. if that's what happened to your mages, go for Sonya
