Okay, so I started ROM Hacking like a week ago and now I am inserting Pokemons.

The sprite in battle works ( looks fine ), but the icon is not as colorful as it should be (see screenshot). I think I have to add a new palette, but I am not sure.

    Now my question:

How do I add a palette or do I even have to add one?

In the vanilla games, all Pokemon Icon sprites share 3 distinct palettes. The Gen III engine (hardware limitations) is only able to load a particular amount of palettes at the same time and in a lot of cases there are more icon sprites present on screen at the same time. Ergo, it's not possible to have a unique palette for every pokemon icon sprites. Better use the colors that are present in the original and change your sprites accordingly.

    Thanks for answering!

How should I know which colors are in each of the 3 palettes?

1: You could extract some palettes of existing icon sprites and check their palettes until you've found 3 distinct ones.

2: When opening the Pokemon Box and checking the palette viewer, you could extract them as well. The Pokemon Icon Sprites palettes are in slot 0x1, 0x2 and 0x3 of the sprite/object in VBA's palette viewer.

Ok so I changed my icon, so it matches with the colors in the 0x2 palette.

Thank you for showing me the Palette Viewer!
