It's mainly cause, when I play Pokemon in college I have a few friends who chose BLUE when we all bought a game on eshop and they got SUPER triggered when I chose red.

In Leaf Green? It was Venusaur, Jolteon, Rhydon, Starmie, Snorlax and Dodrio

(I remember spending so much time in the game corner trying to get Shadow Ball for my Snorlax and Ice Beam for Starmie :p)
