Hi all,

As this was requested, a quick Bulletin Board post! You may have noticed that today (12th July by your time zone) a popup appear on several websites, including The PokeCommunity Forums. This pop-up invites you to sign your name to a petition to stop Net Neutrality.

There's a discussion thread on the topic already, but for those interested, Incineroar sums up what Net Neutrality and this petition is all about:
Quote:
On July 12, hundreds, if not thousands of websites, will be banding together to fight the oppression that will allow Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to give preference to certain websites, and throttle others. The rights and rules for this were established in about 2014, and the FCC's new chair, Ajit Pai, who was a former lawyer for Verizon, wants to abolish those rights and rules. This means that the internet will become monopolized, and it'll become a game of "money talks".

What is Net Neutrality?
If you're unfamiliar with the term Net Neutrality, it refers to the fact that all websites on the internet have equal precedence when being served to a customer. Without these rules, ISPs have the right to throttle (slow down) access to certain websites unless they pay the ISP for a special "Fast Lane". This means that if a website is slowed down by a lot of ISPs, that's a lot of money out of their pockets so they can just allow their visitors to view their content, and this can mean that some websites may have to go offline as they can no longer maintain a steady balance between hosting and ISP fees (Imagine if PC had to go offline because it was throttled by too many ISPs?). So if your ISP has slow internet and it makes streaming Netflix or YouTube awful, imagine how much more slow it'd be if Net Neutrality was abolished and those sites were throttled!

What can I do as a citizen?
You can be heard. Send e-mails. Discuss it on social media. Call congressmen. Spread the word of its evils. If more people know about the issues that it can cause, there can be more people making their voices heard.
The pop-up will disappear by the next day and is only intended to raise awareness. No need to panic about the pop-up! Just maybe about Net Neutrality.

Rise up all my beautiful PC users. Don't let the things you love disappear. If net neutrality caused PC to shut down, where would you get your daily dose of Tsk? The fight for net neutrality has been joined by Google and Facebook, which is awesome because they of course stand nothing to gain from maintaining net neutrality. The current Congress has given far too much power to Internet Service Providers while doing nothing to combat their flagrant violations of the 1890 Sherman Antitrust Act. I know I would hate to see PC disappear. It has been a joy to get to know all of you all over again. Don't let PC get b& from the internet.
