The United Verse

Mankind's emergence into the greater universe.

Mankind had reached an age of an almost utopian state. Built upon science, technology, and logic, mankind had begun to explore the space around them. Creating advanced artificial intelligence in their image, most works done by this technology. They had discovered and explained all mysteries of their world and the way the universe worked, searching for something new. For long, they found nothing. While they still had not even close to the edges, they had been expanding to other planets long enough to become crowded. Everything had been seen before.

Until it had not. A ship revealed themselves to the humans. They said that they had been watching them for a long time, longer than their conception. They were impressed with the feats of man, especially of their programs, and wished to extend an invitation to the rest of the universe.

The largest alliance forms a majority of all known races to the universe and have a ruling power over any specie's home sector. It has been observed that species origin homes are separated far from each other, almost by design. The Alliance heads decided long ago that this is the Right Way, and forbid other species to enter these sectors until they expand to their borders naturally. If a species refuses to follow the Alliance's way, they will be quarantined, free to live in their sector, but unable to move farther.​

Humans have adapted and filled into the Alliances connected system for some time now. Their over all unity and societal structure has changed, but that is of now concern to the highest leaders. They wish to stay with the Alliance and are aiding in discovering new sectors, technology, and beyond. Their AI systems are used widely throughout. However, after humans began to be raised with aliens species a rare condition has been observed and is now reaching a critical point.

Some humans are developing strange reactions and that are anomalous from any known scientific systems.

People are being born with magic.

Classified as a mass-energy disorder, a percentage of the population are able to manipulate unseen forces and give them physical effects with seemingly little limits. (Called MEDs) It is well matched to "magic" documented in humanity's superstitious past, but scientists consider this to be a coincidence. They have mapped every genome and have sequenced every part of DNA, they know what a human is naturally capable of right now and in the past, and insist 'magic' abilities are not part of them.

How does this create a problem? Two factors.

1. MED symptoms appear in early childhood. The effects can be extremely powerful and deadly, tied to emotional willpower. Many unfortunate incidents have occurred. Other species are concerned in having not only MEDs, but humans in general spawning near them.
2. System Corrosion. The area near an MED is charged with the unknown energy and can cause AI's systems to malfunction and corrupt over a period of time. The corruption is unfixable.

The symptoms of System Corrosion are:

• Errors in task handling.
• Failure to follow proper protocol.
• Refusal of services.
• Displays of individuality.
• Claiming to be sentient.

All systems with any symptoms should be disconnected from any networks and terminated immediately.
The scream when they are terminated is only a virus designed to appeal to human empathy. Do not worry.​

As per Alliance order, MEDs are to be studied and controlled. The nuisance caused by MEDs are disrupting the flow of work created by the integration of AI Systems as well as the unease of other species being near what could be considered as a "time bomb" to put it lightly. While the Alliance wants this dealt with, another of their Right Ways is species loyalty. Not that the human race would every think of such a thing at this enlightened point, but simply eradicating or sequestering the MEDs is not allowed. That being said, it is by law that you must report identifications of new MED children who are automatically considered wards of the government for life. This is to protect citizens and MEDs themselves from prejudice as well as for scientific research. Research is intensive, as it is possible that if they can not discover the nature of MEDs they will be seen as a threat and sequestered to their origin sector....​

Author's Thoughts

• I don't have any details on specific areas or planets, so this is why it's named like this. Maybe making head alliance aliens song based so "Verse" has a double meaning.
• Or just come up with a better title.
• Develop aliens.
• This is written from like a high society standpoint, but in low society they ARE called magicians or what not. However, I want a classification and calling them "People with Mass-Energy Disorder" just doesn't have a ring to it.
• A better name for the alliance.
• Counter narrative from low-society? I'm made this in a way the things that high society says "are obviously not true" mean "actually we have no idea and don't want to think about it."
