  • Candice was the first gym leader that forced me into a corner in years... Infernape couldn't hit Froslass with Hail/Snow Cloak/Double Team in action.

Definitely Whitney. Because of her Miltank, I had to train my Dratini (from the Game Corner) to the point where it was able to evolve, but didn't evolve it, simply because I wasn't letting it evolve until it could defeat the two Pokemon that I actually fear (Miltank and Wigglytuff) by itself.

  • I have a confession to make. I actually never had a problem with Whitney. Admittedly, when I came back to her, like, two days ago on SoulSilver she actually put up one heck of a fight, but Dratini's Dragon Rage shut that Miltank down in two hits.

No, the gym leader that has given the most trouble out of any of them was... Misty. Red and Blue Misty. I don't know why I had such a problem, it's not like I had a fire type starter or anything, I had a Wartortle. But that girl slaughtered me each and every time. I don't think any other gym leader has put down nearly as many times as she did.

    First generation Misty; Norman; Clair.

What I like about Clair is that she is undoubtedly meant to be difficult, and actually is.

  • Norman was difficult back in RS if I don't have pokemon near his levels. Clair was the most difficult since you have very few ice types far before her town and the lack of pokemon capable of using ice types. even if you have ice types, two of her pokemon do normal effectiveness and you can't encounter dragon types without defeating her first.

Misty in LeafGreen. I had Charmeleon so she had one heck of an advantage. Also, Bellsprout was very weak too. I had to evolve it and make Weepinbell 25 before I could beat her. No other gym was tough, not even Whitney, since after the Misty incident I always trained my Pokémon heck damn lot before battling.

it always depends on the team i'm using but the ones i can think of are:

bugsy: scyther can be a real pain without a solid counter

whitney: miltank gives me more trouble with charm + stomp than rollout tbh

morty: gengar for the same reason as scyther

bw2 cheren: "pff.. now i have to beat puppies..."

*work up* *work up* *work up*

"ffffffuuuuuu.......!!!!! tepig! run for your life!"

i like to play underleveled, that's why i have trouble beating scyther and gengar at times.
unless i have something to inflict paralysis or at least one pokemon resistant to the main attacks, chances are that i'm in trouble.

but that's exactly what keeps the journeys fun and interesting =D

  • I absolutely couldn't fight Whitneys Miltank, her charm almost always got me and i always liked Male poke more so it was effective, :/.

  • suprised everyone found whiney difficult, i never had much trouble with her, and i never even knew about the machop trade!
Claire has got to be the most difficult gym leader. You take the time to rain an ice type (or feralifatr) and then she comes out with a Kingdra! Try that on a nuzlocke where you didnt get a flaffy!

  • Clay in BW2, my Pokemon were under leveled and his Excadrill was faster than all of my Pokemon and ended up 1HKO'ing all of them. Took me more than 5 tries to finally defeat him, I never want to do that again. ;_;

Hardest for me were Whitney and Claire. Whitney wouldn't have been so bad if it weren't for her miltank, and I didn't have any Pokemon that had an advantage over Claire so I sometimes struggled with her.

I also struggled against the physic twins in Emerald during my first playthrough but I don't remember struggling in subsequent matches against them.

I admit that Whitney and Sabrina were a bother, but I think Brawly was definitely the most difficult.

God, that Makuhita was a pain.

Marlon. My team was properly leveled, and I had enough Pokemon to counter him, but man did that Jellicent offer me an issue. Who at GF honestly though recover on a Leader's Pokemon was smart? Sure it was fine to have a challenge, but recover made things longer then it should have.

  • Whitney and Cheren. There's only so many critical hits you can get before you smash your DS against a wall (True Story).

Recently, it was Jasmine. I went through SS with just Espeon and Umbreon, and my lord was that annoying.

  • Whitney back in my youngun' dayze when i had no idea what to do dat Miltank.

I also struggled a lot with Crasher Wake because i used to be a stubborn solo trainer until recently and i had an Infernape which would crumble from brine and aqua jet :(

Definitely this. Misty was very very tough for us who chose Charmeleon.

Also Clay was pretty darn strong too. I figured my Samurott could handle him but once that Excadrill came out it was a whoole other story. Good thing I had trained my Pokemon up a few levels higher and both Darmanitan and Samurott were faster and I was able to pull through in just 2 tries.

  • When I was younger, it was Whitney and her dang Miltank.
Now, it's easier now that I know what to do, but I still hate her.
