  • Time to get this underway.

I arrived at Alola and this time flip is going to take some time getting used to. Getting up at the middle of the night sure was awkward.

I went with Kukui to see the island Kahuna Hala to get my starter, but he was nowhere to be found. I saw a strange looking girl heading for the ruins and followed. When I arrived, a puff ball was attacked by a flock of Spearow. The puff ball didn't look like it was able to defend itself and the girl was scared, so I went in and protected it. A strange aura came from the puff ball and blasted part of the bridge away and we fell to certain death if not for a strange yellow Pokemon to save us. It left, though.

They weren't kidding when they said that there was a 3-minute cutscene for picking the starter, so soft-resetting for a good starter is going to be tedious.

  • Time for a quick update:

After 18 hours worth of soft-resetting, I finally landed on a decently-IVed, female Popplio. I wasn't even trying for the gender in the first place, though. It doesn't have a +Special Attack nature, but it does have a 30 Speed IV (I checked Serebii's updated IV calculator), which makes breeding for a Hidden Power Fire specimen in the future a whole lot sweeter.

  • After saving the puff ball, the girl and I returned to Iki, where she introduced herself as Lillie, Prof. Fukui's assistant. The island kahuna, Hala, returned and brought out the starters. Per Pokemon gaming tradition, I went with Popplio. See the post above for the soft-resetting shenanigans.

After picking up Popplio literally, a guy, who turned out to be Hala's grandson, Hau, challenged me to a battle. It was easy, as Popplio 2HKOed Litten with Water Gun. After, Hala invited me to the upcoming festival and I returned home to introduce Popplio to my mom. The next day, Kukui gave me some Poke Balls to catch some Pokemon with and I caught almost all the different Pokemon there. I trained for a bit, too.

Current team (note: I honestly care more about the first two, and possibly Pichu):

    Popplio, female, level 7
    -Pound
    -Water Gun
    -Growl
Nature: Serious (couldn't be bothered spending an eternity going for a +Speed/Special Attack nature, but this is what breeding is for)

    Pikipek, male, level 6
    -Peck
    -Growl
    Nature: Jolly
    Ability: Skill Link

    Yungoos, female, level 5
    -Tackle
    -Leer
    Nature: Naughty
    Ability: Strong Jaw

    Pichu, male, level 4
    -Thunder Shock
    -Charm
    Nature: Timid

    Caterpie, female, level 3
    -Tackle
    -String Shot
    Nature: Naughty

    Grubbin, female, level 5
    -Vice Grip
    -String Shot

  • Okay, it's been five days. I got a fair chunk done, picked up the event Munchlax, and I had to soft reset for a decent Grimer. It was tedious, but not wanting to spend an eternity doing it, I just settled for a neutral natured one.

I went to Prof. Kukui's lab to learn more about the island challenge and got my Pokedex upgraded with a Rotom inside. Kukui then suggested I go to the Pokemon Trainer's school to learn more about Pokemon. It felt redundant, but I went with Lillie anyway. After beating all the trainers there and the aforementioned soft-resetting for Grimer, I calmed down a Tauros on the way to Hau'oli City. After arriving, I had a look around, grinded the team for a bit, and got the Rotom Dex upgraded again to have the Poke Finder. I also eavesdropped on a conversation about Team Skull.

    Current team:

    Popplio, female, level 7
    -Pound
    -Water Gun
    -Baby-Doll Eyes
    -Disarming Voice
    Nature: Serious

    Pikipek, male, level 10
    -Peck
    -Growl
    -Echoed Voice
    -Rock Smash
    Nature: Jolly
    Ability: Skill Link

Pichu, female, level 4 (this is a different one)
    -Thunder Shock
    -Charm
    -Tail Whip
    -Sweet Kiss
    Nature: Rash

    Munchlax, male, level 10
    -Tackle
    -Metronome

    Nature: Adamant
    Ability: Thick Fat

    Grimer, male, level 10

  • Big update:

I arrived at the marina and saw a pink-haired guy confronting two punks. They demanded that he handed over his Pokemon, but I stepped in and defeated one of them; at this point, I learned they were from Team Skull. They ran off and the guy introduced himself as captain Ilima. He battled me to test my worth for his trial and I won. Afterward, he told me to meet him at Verdant Cavern on Route 3.

I left for Route 3 and midway through, a Delibird pulled me aside only for me to see the same two Team Skull punks try to steal berries. I took care of them again and got some berries from the caretaker for my trouble. Munchlax and Pichu evolved after some level grinding. I eventually caught up with Ilima, who explained the trial rules: I was to battle Rattata and Raticate emerging from their dens in Verdant Cavern and make my way to the end of the cave to take its treasure, a Z-Crystal. I couldn't leave during the trial, so I bought some potions beforehand. In the end, I have to battle a Totem Pokemon, a Pokemon that's bigger and stronger than normal Pokemon.

I was able to clear out two of the Rattata, but I was stopped by Team Skull again before I could get to the third. I battled and defeated the same grunt yet again and I was able to get to the Raticate running around after some planning.

At the end of the cave, I was about to take the Z-Crystal until suddenly, a huge Raticate, which was the Totem Pokemon, jumped from the cliff and battled me. I was able to weaken it a bit with Popplio's priority Baby-Doll Eyes, but it summoned a Rattata to help. After Raticate used Tail Whip to counteract the Attack drop, I went for the offensive with Disarming Voice. I had to keep using potions to keep Popplio alive. I was able to beat the Raticate in the end.

Outside the cave, Ilima congratulated me, but Kukui came in, worried that Lillie went missing. I remained in the cave for a while to look for a Diglett before I kept going. I eventually found Lillie in Melemele Meadow. The fluff ball, Nebby, wandered off again, so naturally, I had to find it. I did and returned it to Lillie. In the midst of some level grinding in the meadow, Popplio evolved. After Lillie and Kukui were reunited, Hau showed up, having beaten his trial, and battled me again; I won that one.

Having beaten my first and only trial on Melemele, I was to battle Kahuna Hala. I went back to Iki and ddi the battle. Mankey was a cakewalk, but Crabrawler took out Trumbeak after taking a supereffective Peck. I had Grimer finish it off. I was planning on poison-stalling out Makuhita, but it kept spamming Sand Attack, making Poison Gas miss. I had to revive Trumbeak and switch to it in order to take it out and win. Hala gave me access to Tauros Ride, which let me travel faster. I also opted not to take Kukui's offer for a boat ride for now and explore whatever the boulders were blocking, which included Ten Carat Hill. I'm about to go to the second island.

  • I made it to Akala, where I met the kahuna, Olivia, and one of the trial captains, Mallow. Lillie told me to meet her at the hotel, but I caught her shopping for clothes. I went further and ran into a couple of familiar faces in Sina and Dexio. After battling Sina, I was given the Zygarde Cube, which let me take Zygarde Cells and Cores and combine them. I met up with Lillie, who was disappointed that whoever she wanted to meet with left already. I decided to get another Grubbin to train up, since I felt the one I had wasn't good enough. That, and I want to challenge myself in having to put up with Charjabug until late in the game.

I made my way to Paniola Town, where I battled Hau again and won. I also had a look around at the ranch and decided to hold off breeding Pokemon at the Day Care until I got a hold of a Flame Body Pokemon to speed up the egg hatching process. I pressed on at Route 5, where I met Gladion, who trounced Hau in a battle. Hau didn't seem to mind, though. I felt that facing off against Type: Null, a Pokemon with 95/95/95 defenses at this point of the game was tough for my other Pokemon, so I had to use Snorlax's Brick Break to get past it.

I went to Brooklet Hill and met with Lana, another Trial Captain. She asked me to investigate the splashings that happened and gave me Lapras Paddle to help me accomplish the task. In the midst of my search, I caught a shiny Dewpider. I'm about to head to the deepest part and am considering rotating Snorlax out once the trial is finished.

  • Couldn't get too far because of exams.

Anyway, I beat Lana's trial by relying on Snorlax's sheer special bulk. I made the Sudowoodo blocking the path relive their PTSD of Lana scaring them off with her Z move and made my way to Straight Street. I met with Hapu, who asked me to defeat the Team Skull Grunts (yes, the same berry thieves) at Royal Avenue. I did the tried-and-true method of one-shotting Drowse with Grimer. Hapu even threatened to kill the grunts with her Mudsdale, but the grunts cheesed it and fled.

After checking out Royal Avenue, I went into the Battle Royal Dome, where I met with Gladion and Hau. The Masked Royal sure looked suspicious, but I battled all three of them anyway. I wanted to test out Hydro Vortex on Gladion's Type: Null to see how much it did and it put it in the red. Then I took out Hau's Torracat. After the battle, the Trial Captain of the next trial, Kiawe came and beckoned us to come to Wela Volcano Park for his trial.

After climbing the volcano and battling all the trainers, I went to the Totem's den and did the trial with Brionne alone. Diglett had the moves, but it was weak to Fire too. Kiawe told me to differentiate between the dances of his Pokemon, but it was simply an obvious spot the difference game on the freeze frame. When I got to the Totem Salazzle, I one-shotted it with Brionne's Scald, which I never expected it to do. I was hoping to farm the Salandit the Salazzle summoned for experience and Speed EVs, but at least the trial was done and over with.

After getting the Firium Z from Kiawe, I decided to check out Poke Pelago. I got more Poke Beans for Refresh and some free items from explorations from Isle Aphun.

On my way through Route 8, I ran into Colress, a familiar face. He simply talked about the potential of Pokemon before handing out the Flame Charge TM. I couldn't help but wonder why he kept pressing buttons on his sleeve as he talked.

I also ran into Gladion in the motel, but he just told me to get out.

I'm on my way to the Lush Jungle trial.

  • I did the Lush Jungle trial. I have to admit, pounding the ingredients felt awkward after reading about its innuendo. The Totem Lurantis wasn't as hard as people experienced it to be because I nailed the Toxic poison from Grimer's Poison Fang.

I convinced my cousin, who was way ahead of the game compared to me, to trade my Charjabug over to his game to evolve it into Vikavolt, then do a tradeback, which he accepted.

After the trial, Kukui came by, gave me the Smart Strike TM, and told him to meet him at the Dimensional Research Lab at Heahea. I decided to take some time off and breed a Jangmo-o I got form Wonder Trade for my personal use in-game. I still went to the lab and met Professor Burnet, Kukui's wife. It felt weird seeing her with a tan after her appearance in Dream Radar. Burnet recounted how she and Kukui met Lillie three months ago and gave Hau and I information about Ultra Beasts and Ultra Wormholes. She also suggested I read up on Pokemon and other dimensions and I did.

When all was said and done, I went down to Diglett's Tunnel, finally free to explore it. Olivia told me to meet her at her shop at Konikoni City. After battling all the trainers there, I ran into Team Skull again. I teamed up with Hau and beat the grunts down. After leaving the cave, I arrived at Konikoni, but Olivia wasn't there; her Probopass gave me a letter that she had to go to the Ruins of Life and to meet her there instead. I ran into Team Skull again on the way there at the outskirts, who held a Slowpoke protected by the Aether Foundation hostage. I beat the grunt and the guy with the green shades thanked me and invited me to Aether Foundation once the grand trial was cleared;. Before I could go to the ruins, I ran into the Team Skull Admin Plumeria. She was miffed that her "siblings" were getting beaten and wanted to take me down. As withe everyone else in Team Skull, I beat Plumeria.

I met Olivia at the ruins, not before Lillie wandered in lost, as Nebby wanted to check out the ruins, too. Burnet followed close behind because she had to guide Lillie there. I battled Olivia and just like the other Rock specialists, she wasn't that hard as I had a Water starter on my side. After receiving the Rockium Z, I decided to battle Lana and Mallow before meeting the scientist at Hano Grand Resort to take me to Aether Paradise.

Hau came in and wanted to join me for the ride. The scientist, the branch chief Faba, accepted and took us to the paradise, where Pokemon are able to live in harmony after being abandoned or abused. After dropping us off, Faba left us with Wicke to give the tour of the facilities and the conservation area. It was there where we met the president, Lusamine. After hearing her dedication to protecting all Pokemon, an Ultra Wormhole appeared before us and a jellyfish creature, an Ultra Beast, emerged. I easily defeated it with Brionne. Lusamine thanked me for dealing with it not before she started a new project in protecting the Ultra Beasts.

Wicke sent us off to the next island, Ula'ula, where Hau challenged me to a battle right away. I was annoyed, but complied anyway. Dug trio was taken out by a critical Psychic from Raichu, but I was able to revive it and take it out. I chose to use Jangmo-o at this point of the game onward as I used it against Hau's Leafeon. Torracat, as always, was easily defeated by Brionne.

After the battle, Hau and I went to Malie Garden to look for Kukui to tell him about the news about the Ultra Wormhole. Kukui was pleased and suggested I go to the Malie Library to learn more. Lillie was there waiting, wanting to go there as well. I decided to grind the team a bit before going to the library, with Brionne finally evolving into Primarina along the way.

  • After talking with Kukui, I went to Malie Library to meet up with Lillie to learn more about Nebby. In the library, we encountered a purple haired girl who introduced herself as Acerola. She gave us the right book about Alola's history. Acerola then told me to go to the next trial, on Mt. Hokulani.

Having learned from Kukui and Acerola that Hokulani needed a bus ride to get to, I went to the bus stop, only to find Team Skull Grunts trying to steal it. I scared them off and the bus took me to the mountain. Moving on the observatory, I met Molayne, who battled me to see if I was worthy of taking on the trial. I passed and I went in. After taking a look around, I met up with Sophocles in a non-Festival Plaza setting. He had built a machine intended to lure in the Totem Pokemon, but when he started it up, he caused a blackout. In the trial, I had to answer audio quizzes. While they were blatantly obvious, I couldn't resist getting them wrong on purpose just to see Sophocles get electrocuted each time (cruel of me, I know). After getting the quizzes right, the Totem Pokemon, Vikavolt, showed up and I battled it. While I could have ended it easily, I wanted Vikavolt to summon all its reinforcements to reap the free experience. Primarina was KOed after one attempt, but I revived it and had Jangmo-o KO Vikavolt, leaving its last Charjabug alone, after which I rotated between all my team members so they could at least get the experience. Jangmo-o evolved after the battle. After the power came back on, Sophocles and Molayne gave me the Electrium Z and Steelium Z. Molayne also gave me the Professor's Mask to return to Kukui. Later, I decided to catch all seven Minior colors before leaving Hokulani.

I found Kukui at Malie Garden again, but he was confronted by a white haired guy, whom I learned was Guzma, the boss of Team Skull. They were arguing over why Kukui started the Pokemon League in the first place and were about to battle, but Kukui had me battle Guzma instead. As Guzma was using Bug Pokemon, Toucannon and Primarina made short work of him. I returned the mask to Kukui, who denied that he was the Masked Royal.

Acerola arrived and directed me to her own trial at Tapu Village. She also took Lillie with her for a shopping spree. After getting past the island challenge barrier, Hapu stopped me because there was rocky terrain ahead and registered Mudsdale Gallop on my Ride Pager. After clearing the terrain, I met with Hau and Gladion, who simply told us to protect Cosmog before leaving.

Upon arriving at Tapu Village, Hau was standing in front of the Pokemon League's construction site. He suggested we visit Aether House and we did, only to be challenged by a pair of preschoolers who mistook us for intruders. After beating them, Acerola arrived and let us access the abandoned Thrifty Megamart for her trial. In that trial, I had to take a picture of some Ghost Pokemon and the Totem Pokemon. After entering, I took pictures of the entire Gastly family. Gastly and Haunter were easy, but I had to be patient for Gengar to appear. After taking the Gastly family's pictures, I went to the back room, where Rotom sensed a life form. The room was small, but had pictures of Pikachu all over. I looked around, only to find a Mimikyu right behind me. I took its picture, and it turned out to be the Totem Pokemon. I resorted to breaking Mimikyu's Disguise with Toucannon's Beak Blast, then switched to Dugtrio, who defeated Mimikyu with Corkscrew Crash. Acerola gave me the Ghostium Z as the reward for clearing the trial.

After leaving the Megamart after some training there, in which Grimer evolved into Muk, I returned to Aether House to find Plumeria there again, who wanted to battle me again for messing with her "siblings". After beating her, I learned that Team Skull and stolen a preschooler's Yungoos and Plumeria beckoned me to come to Po Town to come get it back.

I then found a familiar face on the beach, the Unova Elite 4 Grimsley. He challenged me to a coin flip bet and I guessed that it would land on neither heads or tails. Grimsely conceded and gave me the Sharpedo Poke Ride. After battling the trainers on the way, I arrived at Po Town ready to challenge Team Skull.

Since the last update, Grimer and

  • I infiltrated Po Town with the approval of the police chief. Upon entering, I found that the town was rather dilapidated after Team Skull's takeover and the Pokemon Center charged a small amount of money to heal my Pokemon.

After battling the Skull Grunts scattered around town, I arrived at the Shady House, where I battled even more grunts and learned about their ways. A grunt asked for the passwords, which I found all over the mansion, but turned me away even if I got them right. I eventually figured out how to get in and get to Guzma because I didn't say no after saying the passwords. At the room on the right of the stairs, I defeated Guzma to free the Pokemon Team Skull had taken. I also snagged myself a Bugnium Z from the crate before leaving.

Acerola met me in front of the Shady House, along with Nanu, the police chief from earlier. I accompanied her to Aether House, where I learned that Lillie had been kidnapped by Team Skull. Gladion busted in, angered that Hau and I couldn't protect Cosmog and battled me, after which he calmed down and offered to take Hau and I to Aether Paradise.

We set foot on Aether Paradise and quickly discovered that most of the employees and Branch Chief Faba turned against us for intruding. I won against Faba easily and he offered to let us go deeper into the labs, but we quickly found out it was a ruse for him to get backup. Wicke showed up and explained Gladion's backstory before healing the team and letting us carry on to battle Faba and his reinforcements. Hau pointed out the flaw of Faba's plan: had he stayed hidden, he would have prevented us from getting to Lillie (and Lusamine). In complete shock, Faba battled us again and was beaten soundly.

After stepping out in front of Lusamine's mansion, we learned that Team Skull and Aether Foundation were working together. I battled the Skull Grunts blocking the path and ran into Guzma again. He had two more Pokemon with him, but despite this, I was able to beat him with almost no problems.

In the mansion, Lillie was arguing with Lusamine over Cosmog. Lusamine quickly got upset when she learned that Hau and I knew Lillie and beckoned us to a warp panel, which brought us to her personal collection - frozen Pokemon displayed as trophies. It was sick and cruel. She held up a display case containing Cosmog and ordered it to open Ultra Wormholes all over Alola. The Ultra Wormhole in the trophy room summoned the Ultra Beast I defeated earlier. Lusamine wanted to have it, not before she challenged me to a battle. My team took some heavy blows in the process, but Lusamine was no match. After the battle, Guzma arrived and he and Lusamine disappeared into the wormhole. Cosmog came out of the case, now in a different, unmoving form.

Wicke returned to the mansion and let us stay the night. The next day, she told me to meet Lillie outside. Outside, Lillie had changed clothes and looked absolutely stunning. Gladion gave Lillie the Sun Flute, which was thought to have something to do with the legendary Pokemon. He brought us to Poni Island, where Lillie speculated that they would get more help.

After arriving on Poni, we met with the Seafolk Village's chief, who pointed us to get the kahuna's help for more answers. We decided to start at Hapu's house. Hapu herself arrived and told us she had something to do at the Ruins of Hope. Upon arriving at Hapu's house, Hapu's grandmother gave me the Machamp Shove Poke Ride. I backtracked to the places that had boulders to pick up any missing items.

We arrived at the Ruins of Hope, where Hapu was chosen to be the island's new kahuna after her grandpa, the previous kahuna, passed away. She suggested we go to Exeggutor Island to get the Moon Flute, which had to be played with the Sun Flute to restore the legendary Pokemon's power.

  • Late, but w/e.

As of December 29, 2016, I already beat the game, but I'll get down what happened anyway.

Lillie and I went to Exeggutor Island to get the Moon Flute, but it rained, so we took shelter in a nearby cave. Lillie told me about her mother's caring side, which was heartbreaking considering Lusamine's sanity slippage at Aether Paradise. After the rain cleared, we got the Moon Flute and made our way to Vast Poni Canyon's entrance. There, Hapu battled me to test my worthiness of going through the canyon as the island's grand trial. I wondered why the grand trial would be at the start of Poni instead of the very end, but I went through with it anyway. Because my team was well-equipped to deal with Ground Pokemon, this wasn't a hard battle.

Afterward, Lillie and I went through the canyon, with her healing my Pokemon several steps of the way. She went through her own personal trail of running across a bridge, even with 3 Murkrow attacking her. On my own, I met Poni's trial captain, Mina, who simply gave me a Fairium Z without a fight before pondering about her own art with me as the subject.

Towards the end of the canyon, I went through an abandoned trial site, where I battled the Totem Kommo-o. I could have beaten it down with Primarina right away, but I chose to let it live long enough to summon its Hakamo-o and Scizor reinforcements for the extra experience.

After climbing a really long staircase, we arrived at the Altar of the Moone, where we played the Sun and Moon flutes that made Nebby come out of the bag and evolve into Lunala, the very Legendary Pokemon we sought. It took us to an Ultra Wormhole, which led to Ultra Space.

Ultra Space was a weird place, but not as weird as the Distortion World and it was crawling with Nihilego, the Ultra Beast I fought earlier. There, we met Guzma, who recalled that he got possessed by a Nihilego before pointing out that Lusamine was beyond reasoning. Nevertheless, Lillie gave it a try anyway as Lusamine appeared on a rock. Lusamine was unfazed as she sent out a Nihilego she had caught and fused with it to horrifying levels, and challenged me to a battle. All of her earlier Pokemon were given totem boosts, but I was able to play around them. After Lusamine was beaten again, she tried to kill Lillie, not before Lillie was able to summon Nebby to our side and undo the fusion. Lusamine fell unconscious after reconciling with Lillie.

Dozens of Nihilego surrounded us and Nebby warped us out to the real world, where Hapu was on the altar. She took Lusamine and Guzma back with her. Nebby then expressed a desire to continue to travel with Lillie, but as she wasn't a trainer, she decided to let it travel with me instead, but I had to catch it. After only a day of resetting for good stats, I caught Lunala. Lillie decided to leave me behind after deciding to do what she can to cure her mother.

Afterward, Nanu showed up out of nowhere and offered to take me to the newly formed Pokemon League, which I accepted. After some grinding, I went to Mt. Lanakila and battled Gladion at the base and Hau before the League itself. After even more grinding, I met Kukui at the League building and explained the rules: I couldn't leave until I beat all of the Elite 4 or got beaten myself. Knowing that I could have done them at any order I wanted, I decided to battle the Elite 4 from left to right, from Hala to Kahili. I hadn't seen Kahili at all during the full adventure, though, while Acerola took the Elite 4 position after Nanu refused it.

After defeating the Elite 4, I went to the champion's room, where Kukui congratulated me for making it this far before challenging me to one final battle. The one Pokemon I had to play around the most was Decidueye, as Lycanroc had set up Stealth Rock and broke Lunala's Shadow Shield. I had to use Full Restores in hopes of stalling out Spirit Shackle, knowing that Decidueye would KO Lunala with Spirit Shackle without Lunala's Shadow Shield.

After being officially crowned Alola's first Champion, the professor and Elite 4 congratulated me and held a festival at Iki, where most of the main cast of the game celebrated (Lusamine couldn't make it and Mina was off somewhere). Lillie suggested we sneak off to the Ruins of Conflict to thank Tapu Koko, but I was more concerned about the festival. She was frustrated and dragged me there anyway. Lillie healed my team one final time before I interacted with Tapu Koko's totem. To my surprise, it battled me. Knowing that I couldn't save in between, I simply KOed Tapu Koko with Dugtrio's Earthquake so I could come back for it at a later point. We returned to the festival, where everyone was still celebrating. Lillie was about to tell me something, but decided to hold off at the last minute as fireworks were in the sky.

The day after the festival, Hau rushed into the house, reporting a disaster at Hau'oli Marina. It wasn't much of a disaster, but a disaster regardless, as Lillie was leaving for Kanto to start her own Pokemon journey and find a cure for Lusamine's condition, with Bill as her starting point; he had fused with a Pokemon himself. Hau was devestated at the departure; I was, too, until Lillie gave me her good luck charm, a Poke Doll. As Lillie's boat left, Hau was left sulking, but Kukui encouraged him to give one last smile to someone dear who left.

We went our separate ways after that, with Hau training himself to battle against Hala and me returning home and receiving a shady letter about coming to Route 8's motel. I also battled the Eevee users for Kagetora, who failed as he had to start a family before he could. Each of the Eevee users struggled with their own problems at their old age, but nevertheless continued to live on in their own ways. I also rebattled Guzma at Hau'oli Beachfront and Faba at Aether Paradise.
