Hey, I've really been enjoying the game so far, but I encountered 2 problems with version 0.8.
The first one is that my game crashes when I click on new game, but I circumvented that with creating a new game in 0.5 and then copy/pasting that save file to 0.8.
This may be a spoiler for some people, so please don't read it if you are not yet in mt. Moon.

The second one is that my save file is stuck in mt Moon. When I got the message that I needed to hide, I saved in order to make sure that I would not lose all my progress. I then battled the trainer who was to my immediate right, and 1 step after the battle they "saw me" and it was game over. When I started my save file again, I was immediately "seen" again, and this repeats every time I load the file, making it impossible to go further.

Thanks for creating such a fun game!

Wheres a good place to grind, Magikarp needs a lot of levels. Also the skill tracker cursor wont move at all now.

Depends where you are in the game?
Beneath Mt. Moon with Redra healing you is a good spot, or if you go with Idris to the Power Plant you get double exp, and some sidequests will give you extra exp for completing them.

The skill tracker won't move? Interesting. What Pokemon do you have? One of those is what's doing it.

Oh you're right, New Game is broken. It's a script error in achievements, it'll be fixed by next patch (which I'll send out at end of June). Thanks for letting me know!

Hm, it sounds like you saved right in the middle of the "seen" event, which is why you can't get out of it. I'm gonna change that so people can't save once seen, but you're probably gonna need to send me your save file so I can force pull you out of that event.
You're pretty far in the game so it would suck to lose that much progress.

  • During the Silph Co. mission the battle against rival didn't happen, the story just goes on as if I already won.
Also, is it possible to fight him in lavender town?

Updated the download file, New game should work again.

Also, is it possible to fight him in lavender town?

Dammit, fixed that too in the download.
Yes, it is possible to fight him in Lavender, you just have to lie to him. If you tell him you're part of Team Rocket he won't fight you.

Ive got Spliced Raticate, Chansey, Golbat, Hitmonchan, Haunter, Pikachu, and Magikarp. This problem didnt start happening until Zubat evolved I got Magikarp around the same time as well. Regarding story progress ive just become a Lt. ad Idris has told me to meet him near Mt. Moon at his secret spot.

I've replayed Pokemon Rocket Rising with its latest update and I had a much easier time compared to my first playthrough (although that's mainly in part of having prior knowledge and experience of the game mechanics and story). Here are some aspects I took note of:

    1) The storyline flows cohesively for the first half of the game, but after the Power Plant Mission where the player character must take over cities, it gets a bit confusing; the scientists that stage a rebellion happens in Vermillion City before it is taken over. I'm sure that this has to do with Vermillion City's takeover not being fully implemented but when it is, the rebellion should occur when all designated cities have been taken over. But other than that, the storyline is solid.

    2) In Diglett's Tunnel, I encountered Rockets with Pokemon levels ranging from 50-59 where as mine were only 27-29. I believe this is a script that should have run much later on in the game.

    3) I finished the Pokemon League Championships with my Pokemon at levels 33-35 (Haunter, Hitmonchan and Chansey) despite the opponents having much higher level Pokemon and chose the Bad Ending where Giovanni tasks the player to raid Professor Oak's Lab. In my first playthough, I struggled but this time around I found it to be much easier due to my Pokemon having unlocked most of its skills. Speaking of difficulty, I noticed that there is this steep level curve that occurs after the player character becomes a Lieutenant; I'm going to assume that this is a part of the game's design but if it is not, then I suggest increasing the experience points that wild Pokemon give, have a Team Rocket training ground similar to Idris's Cave or give Rare Candies as part of the rewards for finishing missions.

Regardless of the level curve, I had a good time playing the Final Fantasy-inspired battle system and am impressed that you managed to mix a completely foreign system with the Pokemon formula well enough that it works splendidly. I also enjoyed the variety of sidequests, choices and freedom that the game gives.

So thank you SaltRoad for creating a fun and solid game. I look forward to the game's final release whenever it may be.

Progress: Mutagen in cinnabar wasn't working, fixed that so it's obtainable. I think Gary in Lavender was also not working.
Also Rockets should not be in Diglett cave unless you're in the Good route, and not before that. My bad.

I'm going to have some pretty inconsistent Internet from now until August, so I won't be able to patch anything until then. I might be able to respond to questions here and there, but mostly I'll be out of contact.
I'll do my best to work on RR when I can! See you next month!

Okay, Golbat and/or Magikarp, I'll look into them for the skill tracker.
Idris' secret spot is a decent place to train, since Idris will (occasionally) heal you when you talk to them inside.

I'm glad you had an easier time! I've tried to ease up on the skill curve in the beginning. It used to be brutal.
    1) Yeah the second half of the story needs smoothing out. Needs work that I haven't gotten to yet.
    2) Yyyep that was my bad. They should only show up at endgame. I'll patch that up.
3)Yeah I agree with the curve problems. I'm planning to put in late game sidequests that give exp to smooth that out a little bit.

Thanks for commenting! I'm glad you enjoyed it, and I like hearing what people like and don't about the game. One day I'll get to the end, but for now I keep finding more things to do!

The Saffron rocket boss?? Giovanni? Or do you mean Idris during the good route?
Magikarp does have Bite, the system should force it to learn it when evolving into Gyrados. But until it evolves, it will just know Splash.

    Hi Saltroad,

I just took over Silph Co, and have not started Redra's quest yet. I decided to explore and try to get a third pokemon if possible.

Encountered a few bugs (all before Redra's quest):
    1. I got a bike from this kid who wanted to join team rocket but ever since then i couldn't open the SHIFT menu to access my new bike.

After Redra's quest it started working but the shift menu won't show up when i'm near Bill's house

    2. I stole 15 pokemon but when i talked to the casino lady, she didn't even notice i had 5 extra stolen pokemon (i already got the flashlight), so i couldn't get my third pokemon.

Is the third pokemon (other than hitmonlee/chan) only available after Redra's quest? If so, maybe the casino lady should say something like "we don't have anymore rewards available for you at the moment" so i don't need to work so hard to find out i can't get any rewards yet.

    3. I went into the zubat cave and recruited this thief lady but I couldn't find her anywhere in the Rocket base.

    4. I went through the diglett tunnel but when i went up to pewter, i got teleported into this cave and apparently i was talking to Redra. I think the game teleported me to some storyline quest. Same thing happens when i go down to Viridian forest and try to go back out from the top.

Maybe it'll be better to close those areas off if I'm not supposed to access them yet?

    5. I started Redra's quest and beat that Onix with the kangaskhan. We left the cave but when i tried to go back in, a dialogue box opened up, with Redra saying "someone's coming, quick hide behind something!". I went down the stairs and my character just started walking up until he hit a wall, then whatever buttons i pressed didn't work. I had to reload the game.

    6. I found a memento to the west of lt. surge's town, and encountered the owner. I tried to ask him to give me as much money as i can then he said "don't push your luck, kid." and the game just.... freezes.

    7. We were breaking Idris out of jail in Cerulean and i wanted to get into this cave but the game crashed with an error message saying the unable to find audio>bgm>Dark temple pokemon ranger

Looks like i can't continue now..

Just sharing, thanks for all the hard work!

I'm back from vacation! Time to start tackling bugs I see.
Also gonna adjust Rt. 12 Guy: Caden to be have a different faceset. I always meant to, but never got around to giving him a look.

So I forgot to put in the Bike scripts near Bill's house, my bad.
But I can't seem to replicate the missing SHIFT menu. It all seems to work fine for me, and there isn't anything in the events that references plot checkpoints.

I'll fix Casino lady so she says something like that. If you get a third Pokemon before Redra's quest, you wouldn't be able to fight Onix with Redra's help.

    3. I went into the zubat cave and recruited this thief lady but I couldn't find her anywhere in the Rocket base.
She SHOULD be in the Casino part, right between the entrance of the base, and the Game Corner desk.

I didn't expect people to wander out that far that early! I'll close it up.

Ah if you go back immediately afterwards, it'll cause a problem. Once you hit the next checkpoint, by talking with Maxx in Saffron, that should be fixed.
I'll throw in something so that people can't go back in right away.

    6. I found a memento to the west of lt. surge's town, and encountered the owner. I tried to ask him to give me as much money as i can then he said "don't push your luck, kid." and the game just.... freezes.
Hm, you might have been near a wall and during that part you should get "pushed" backwards. Which would freeze the game. I'll fix that.

    7. We were breaking Idris out of jail in Cerulean and i wanted to get into this cave but the game crashed with an error message saying the unable to find audio>bgm>Dark temple pokemon ranger
That's strange, that music should be in there. Unless it got somehow accidentally deleted in your version. You're using the most recent version?
One fix for that is to just go to Audio -> BGM -> and then you can put in any old .mp3 and rename it to the Dark Temple song it's looking for.
Or re-download the game, and it should be in the BGM songs.

Thanks for the bug report! You found a lot of new things, it was very helpful! I'll see what I can do about patching those up soon.

Progress: Running through the later parts of the game, tightening up plot and exposition and so on. Adding little fixes here and there where I notice stuff is sloppy. Basically just polishing stuff up. Also working on some sidequests for the first time in forever!! At some point I'd like to make Sidequests/Recruits easier to find, maybe the map or some other tool can give hints or general locations.

Cyclic Rd to Fuchsia now has more Trainers. I haven't noticed any freezing or anything there, so if there's still an issue it's not hitting my version.

Power Plant now has extra dialogue with your chosen Lieutenant, similar to how you got to chat with Maxx in the Saffron PokeCenter. The whole event was feeling a bit empty.

Ran through the Vermilion takeover, adjusted some of the SS. Anne stuff to be more clear for the "poison" and "logic" puzzles. Doing the actual base takeover seems to be working just fine.

The Bike event is now a common event that is easier to fix, and should just work properly now. If you don't have the Bike, it'll say so. If you try to ride indoors, no go.
Also, if you chose Good Route your bike sprite will now be in Trainer clothes and not Rocket clothes.

Still need to 1) Go through the Dojo because for some reason it gets a lot of weird issues 2) Skill Checker.

Thanks again for your amazing work, i enjoyed the game so far A LOT! :)
Things i noticed a month ago or so, when i did a fresh rerun, most of the issues were fixed so far from what i have seen in your updates, in the indigo league, you can just interact with the cubone skull and skip the whole thing, you pretty much have to choose if you want a good or a bad ending.
In the take over of the bases from the rocket if you choose the good ending, in Saffron the game freezes, you have to win a couple of rockets in there if i am not mistaken and then when you try to talk to the "head" of the npcs the freeze happens.
The last thing i noticed is that you can skip the event of finding the chick with the snorlax, you just meet her in the take over even if you haven't finished the clue finding part.
    Keep up the good work!

Progress: 8/9 Found the issue in Saffron! If you had gotten rid of Idris in any way, or were playing as a girl, the event wasn't auto-playing correctly.

Oh god I forgot to remove the cubone skull.
It's there to help me skip and test, and I made it a skull specifically so it sticks out so that I remember to remove it.
    I'll fix that.

I'll run through Good End again in Saffron to see what the problem is, and patch after that. Thanks for letting me know!

The Saffron Good Route should be fixed up now.
That guy running around Celadon city now has a sidequest attached to him, which you can complete.
And that skull in Indigo Plateau was removed.
Plus the handful of other fixes from two posts ago.

    https://www.mediafire.com/file/668mbe1kvpzdddn/RocketRising8.exe/file

Let me know of any other bugs and glitches and I'll get to them.
Now onto the Skill Checker, the Dojo, and more sidequests.

Edit: 8/14 added sidequest to Lavender, and some Map blinkers that will point you towards Recruits and Sidequests.
The dojo seems to work. Picking HitmonChan or HitmonLee works. Losing will throw you outside with restored health.
The Skillchecker was freezing when you had a Pokemon that could evolve with a stone. Like Pikachu. Should be fixed now, as well as Vulpix, Oddish, Vileplume, and Shellder.
8/16 Working on the WeddingCrasher sidequest, and fixed an Erika event. She was ONLY showing up if you had harassed the Diner guy.
Rocket Daycare will now check a variable to see if you Hitmonlee or Hitmonchan. So you should get your correct Pokemon back.

Progress: Everything listed in the previous post, which I've been updating as I've finished stuff.
Also finished a few more sidequest/recruitables. The WeddingCrash will get you a recruit, maybe some money, in Celadon City.
And now on the path to Fuchsia is a sort of... Trick House, if any of you have played Ruby/Sapphire.
I have one more Recruitable in mind, for Saffron City. Which will get us to 17.
I would REALLY like to get to 30 total recruitables. That feels like a good "finished" number.
But no promises until I actually manage to think all of them up.

Hope your summer is going well guys. Mine's been pretty great.

Edit 8/20: And everything is safely backed up! Gonna tackle the Bill sidequest now I think. The reward for that will probably be a Mutagen, and maybe some kind of TM.
Updated the front page with pictures and Let's Play videos, since photobucket broke them alllll.

  • I just ate the whole game playing as a girl (An OC of mine, Jessica) and I'm planning to play as a male then. (Just because I didn't save in the good space to have both endings) and the least I can say is this game was definitely the best pokemon game around.

EDIT : Forgot some pics, end of game then.

I mean come on, the plot is just A-MA-ZING. The battle system sucks at first glance and I though of dropping because of it, but you eventually get used to it very fast, so that's good. This is really hard to catch everything (And since this is MV, I didn't even know how to open the menu since I skipped too fast and got a gameover without saving xD) but that's really cool ! Lemme do a little review of this : CONTAINS SPOILERS :

    Spoiler:

Well, I'm sorry for that long wall of text, but I had a lot to say. This is an amazing experience that I will take again soon with the male player who will this time stay in rocket and don't have any guilt at all.

Progress: Almost done with Bill's sidequest, it just needs a touch more tweaking. I've also started the rough beginnings of the Bad End, but that will need a lot more work before I'm happy with it. To make NewGame+ possible, I'll either need to have a full on ending with BadEnd, or some sort of open Epilogue where you can at any time choose to roll credits and start over.
    Not sure which just yet.

I'm also thinking of redoing the Recruit system in a big way. But it's a bit of an undertaking and will completely change how Takeover Cities and Recruitment works. Right now I've felt like Recruitment is more of a flavor thing, and less of a useful game mechanic. Changing the system would fix that.

Thanks for the pictures of your final team/time. 36 hours is a lot! I'm super impressed that you played that much of it!

Gameplay: Yeah, the power curve of the game needs work. It's something I'll be able to look at better now that the game is mostly done. Things like Cheat Items, Accessories, Mutation and the Daycare are all there, but not quite finished enough yet.

Story: Working on Oak's part now! Hopefully it will be done soon and people can have a satisfying end for either good or bad!

Characters: Yes! You definitely nailed down Maxx's character. Rough guy with a pretty decent heart.
He'll talk a bit more now if you choose him for the Power Plant mission. I'll think about doing a kind of Maxx sidequest around endgame. If Idris gets one, the other Lieutenants should too!
Idris and Gary are the most fun to write dialogue for. Idris, because they're just so mean. And Gary's rival relationship changing beneath his feet is fun to explore.

Recruitment: I'm thinking about reworking the Recruits to make them more useful. Right now they don't impact the game at all, which is a shame since there are so many.
I'm glad you enjoyed the ship and movie sidequests! Especially the movie one was in process for like... literal years.

-Ah okay, Lieutenant choice will have a thing to prevent that Power Plant problem next patch.
-Sabrina, I'll fix that with a switch Conditional branch.
    -Dojo, fixed by next patch.
-Safari Zone, I'll throw in a thing to keep people out for now. I can probably repurpose the area later for people to return to.
    - Sprites and faces are easy to fix! Done, and done.

Pictures missing for Mutagen, I'll have to look into that thoroughly later. The "deposit" system for Daycare/Mutating is... intense.

    Questions and Answers!
    Spoiler:

Thanks for having so much to say! I love getting commentary and questions and such about the game!
    Highlight of my day.
