[Sword & Shield] shiny hunting in sword and shield

So i was wanting to shiny hunt but Im reading some things where one must battle the same pokemon alot and others say to catch them. Some say to not encounter a different pokemon or it breaks your chain. Im lost.

Initially believed shiny chains to be a thing. Discovered that to be false. Increases your shiny odds on Brilliant Aura Pokemon by knocking out Pokemon of that species. Finds the KO count for a given species in your Pokedex.

- 1 KO: Sees Brilliant Pokemon of that species
- 20 KOs: 1.3x likelihood of Brilliant Aura
- 50 KOs: 1.6x likelihood of Brilliant Aura and 2 extra shiny rolls on Brilliant Aura Pokemon
- 100 KOs: 2x likelihood of Brilliant Aura (maximum Brilliant Aura odds) and 3 extra shiny rolls
- 200 KOs: 4 extra shiny rolls
- 300 KOs: 5 extra shiny rolls
- 500 KOs: 6 extra shiny rolls (maximum extra rolls)

Stacks with the Shiny Charm's 2 extra shiny rolls, also.

Technically kept chain fishing as a thing. Increases your odds of getting Brilliant Auras. Does not affect the odds of the non-Brilliant Auras to be shiny.

Resets the chain once a Brilliant Aura Pokemon spawns, by the way.

So since Im going to start with Coalossal, I need to knock out 500 Roly Coly and then knock out another 25 and keep doing that until I find one?

Recommends knocking out 100 Rolycolys, then fighting all the Brilliant Aura Rolycolys that you see. Seems more time-efficient. Offers a fair shiny rate at that KO count (1 in 683 with the Shiny Charm) with the same rate of seeing Brilliant Aura Pokemon. Slowly improves your shiny odds as you go too. Go for all 500 from the outset if you wish, though.

Do not bother fighting anything except the Brilliant Aura Rolycolys once you reach your desired KO count. Only receives the boosted shiny odds on Brilliant Aura Rolycolys. Disregard the normal Rolycolys. On the same note, do not bother with Carkoals if you knocked out Rolycolys.

Ignore the 25 chain thing. Applies to fishing only.
