The HM Challenge

A challenge based on HMs? Well, yes, that's what I'm aiming for. So, let's get down to explaining how this is gonna roll.

First off, only generations II and above are allowed, seeing that generation I only had 5 HMs. It'd be unfair and ruin the challenge.

- You can only use Pokemon that can learn at least two HMs.
- When booting up an HM to see who can learn it, everything that can learn it has to learn it.
- You are allowed one spot for a STAB move, so this kind of limits the rule above. Basically, three/two attacks have to be HMs. If the Pokemon can only learn two, the other has to be a supporting move like Thunder Wave, Double Team, etc.
- If an HM move is a STAB move for certain Pokemon, it does not count as the one STAB move allowed. (example: Tentacool with Surf would still be allowed to have Acid)
- You must have a team of six.
- All HMs must be used.
- You cannot delete them, so make sure you know which STAB move you want.
- You may not use legendaries.
- You cannot use TMs with the exception of Secret Power for Secret Bases and Dig for if you'd like to catch the titans, or Headbutt for trees, or...well, I can't think of any overworld TMs in DPPt. These Pokemon cannot be on the team you plan on ending with.
- You cannot trade to get a Pokemon that is not in the game originally, but you can trade for evolving certain Pokes (Clamperl, Machoke, etc)
- You are allowed to use an emulator to play.
- If you want to hack for one Pokemon, it must be approved by me first.
- Challenge ends after the Pokemon League and catching at least one runner after it is defeated. GSC players cannot capture Entei, Raikou, or Suicune (the exception to the latter is Crystal and HGSS, where it doesn't run) before defeating the Elite Four.

Planned Team (in no particular order):
Weepinbell (Cut, Flash, Razor Leaf, Sleep Powder) I almost always use a Bellsprout as hm slave in GSC, so why not here as teammember?
Miltank (Surf, Strength, Body Slam, Milk Drink) Will probably become my most devastating Pokemon.
Feraligatr (Cut, Surf, Strength, Whirlpool) No Waterfall because i get Whirlpool earlier =(
Dewgong (Surf, Whirlpool, Waterfall, Ice Beam) Gets double STAB. Nuff said.
Dragonite (Fly, Surf, Strength, Waterfall) I'm pretty sure i'll get Waterfall before this thing evolves into Dragonite, and the pre-evos can't learn Whirlpool.
Farfetch'd (Cut, Fly, Slash, Swords Dance) I know Farfetch'd isnt really good, but nothing else came to my mind...

Thanks. :D And since you're playing Silver (which is much longer than the others for this challenge), I just want to clarify that you don't have to defeat all 16 gyms for the challenge to be complete. You just have to catch one roaming Pokemon after defeating the Pokemon League. Whether or not you use the Master Ball is up to you, though. I figured the challenge was difficult enough.

Well, I just defeated Winona. Aside from her Swellow abusing Double Team against poor Deka, I did very well. I just arrived in Lilycove and I guess I'll train a little more, defeat May, and go beat Team Magma in their hideout. I'd also like to point out that my last party member for the water HMs is going to be Gorebyss and I've been using a Zigzagoon for Surf until then, and having a Pokemon with Pickup ain't a bad thing, either.

Also, mondays suck, you do know that your Dragonite is allowed a dragon STAB move, right?

And i still didnt find anything to replace Farfetch'd with, only Xatu, which learns Peck (which i wouldnt really need) Future Sight (meh...) and Psychic (very nice move, but in Lv.60 (Natu learns it in 50)) as its only STAB moves, so Farfetch'd is the better choice here, i'm not that patient

I beat Whitney and Sudowoodo, caught a Miltank and a Farfetch'd and bought a Dratini. Beat everyone between Olivine and Mahagony now and started defeating the people in the lighthouse. Didn't enter Morty's Gym yet, i want my entire team in the mid 20s before.

This is soooo weak, Surf does maybe 20% to a Zubat. Has only been useful with Thunderwave support for Miltank

Oh, and i'll maybe have problems to catch a Lapras, the clock in my silver game is acting weird, i started on sunday and now it's monday morning in the game. Seems like
1. I have to go with Seel on the last slot, it's gonna take eternally till fryday for the game
2. My internal battery is almost dead

You know there's not a sure way to know if the battery is going to die. They say that's a sign, but it's really not. The clock just screws around if you haven't played for a while. Mine does that, too, but it's fine every time I turn it on.

Anyway, I'm a little slow on updates. I haven't been prompted to play Ruby for a while, and school work is getting in the way. However, I did raise everyone up a level the other night just to keep on top of things, so it's allll goood. Going to beat Team Magma at Mt. Pyre soon and then in the Hideout.

So this 'If your clock is acting weird, your internal battery is going to die' is just fearmongering?
Because your explanation for this situation really fits, in fact i haven't played for over 2 years on my Silver Version.

And no, i didnt continue, i had to learn for a test
UPDATE: All my team is Lv. 26 now, except for my new teammember, a Tauros which is Lv. 19 (i know, i already got Miltank, but i prefer two of these things over one and a Farfetch'd... So i'll ditch Farfetch'd as soon as i get Seel or Lapras (pretty sure i'll take Seel, it's still monday on the game...)

I'm training in the Shoal Cave right now. I'm eager to get my last party member on my team, so everyone is underlevelled compared to where I'm usually at at this point in the game.

Beat Morty, Gyarados, Team Rocket and Pryce. Caught a Seel. Beat Chuck and Jasmine. Went through Ice Path. Got the Waterfall HM. Reached Blackthorn. Boxed Tauros, i'll be using Farfetch'd on this slot, as i was originally planning. Tauros is just Miltank with slightly different stats and no Milk Drink, while Farfetch'd might be a bit weakish, but covers two of my greatest weaknesses, Fightning and Grass. Currently training Farfetch'd and Seel.

Replaced Farfetch'd with a Skarmory now, i walked across one and thought "wait, with these wings, that thing has to be able to cut stuff..." and i was right, so i could add it to my team

in the meantime, i've found out that by myself.. but feraligatr isnt really the most important member of my team, so i don't care.

I'm currently training in Victory Road, i want my entire team in Level 43 (i think that was the level Miltank learns BodySlam) before i start attempting the Elite 4. Clair was pretty easy to beat btw, since my Dewgong already knew Ice Beam and OHKOd all her Dragonairs, and Kingdra wasnt too much of a problem too.

I'll probably not be able to continue for some time now, since i gave the GBA SP i borrowed to play the older games on back...
But i'll borrow it again later on and then i can finish the challenge, i won't give up now where just some grinding i'll have to do seperates me from the Elite 4.
