Little help here? Thinking of designing my own 3DS Pokemon game

Hi everybody! I'm thinking of designing my own pokemon game to be played on a 3DS emulator and I'm not quite sure where to begin. If anyone knows where I should begin that would be great! (Altough i've never designed a game before...) Any help is welcome!
