"Living Fossil" Shark caught at mouth of Tokyo Bay

    • I saw this in the news yesterday, and now I've found an English article for you to read.

    This shark hasn't evolved in lots of millions of years. And the curious thing is, well, in the photo is not very seemed, but when I saw it on TV, it remembered me a Huntail.

    It's so curious, it's Prehistoric (Above a bunch of millions ago xP) and it was alive earlier...Yeah, the shark died when scientists tried to bring it to a lab for researching. How a pity.

    I find this stuff really interesting; finding animals from prehistoric times that for the most part are unchanged. o_o It's really fascinating.

    I want one of those sharks.

    I heard people talking about this at school. Only now do I realise what they were referring to.

    Shame it had to die though... Some people just can't leave things alone.

    If you read the article, it states that it was already in a bad state, and was probably only near the surface because of that.

    It's awesome that they've found something so that's unusual like that. I wonder if they'll find more animals that are similar.

    • Well, I don't think taking it away could've helped anything :\ and where does it say that it was in a bad state? All I see is 'unusual' in that article, which I did read, btw.

    • *blink* o_o I could have sworn it said something about it being in the shallow water only because it was injured or ill.

    Anyway, by taking it away, scientists could have nearly replicated the waters it's native to and perhaps nursed it back to life or something like that. o_o; The shallow waters are certainly not its native home so the scientists taking it would probably have been its best bet to life. Not to mention studying a living specimen would be incredibly interesting.

    • I seem to remember reading in an English newspaper that they took it to a specialist to treat the injuries that it had sustained, otherwise it would've just died anyway.

    Remember, it's not that they went and hunted the shark, the shark just got caught up in the netting. Were the fisherman just supposed to toss an injured shark back into the sea to certain death? At least by taking it away, they gave it a fighting chance of living.

    • Yeah, I saw that on TV to, I love, its just like a Sea Monster! ^_^ I want one as a pet ^_^
    It reminds me of my favourite pokemon Gyarados! ^_^
