Okay, topic...
Do you believe there is canon potential? Why or why not?
There's potential, definitely. Their friendship is of the strongest we've seen in the manga so far. Despite Gold's reputation as a ladies' man, I do believe he has legitimate interest in Silver. Wether those feelings will ever become more that hand holding, we have yet to see. However, these moments of hand-holding, closeness and so on may be foreshadowing something deeper.
Even in the first couple of pages of the newly released HGSS chapters show Gold calling out to Silver. Good, healthy friendships like these are the kinds that give me canon hope, even if it is but a dream.

Canon potential? Well, if it was canon in the actual manga, people would get sued or somethin'. :( Aaaaand it would prob'ly take all the fun out of writing fics and doing fanart b'cuz it would be just another couple you couldn't mess with without crazy people trying to kill you for messing with their precious pre-decided oh-i-just-started-reading-the-manga-i-suppose-that-if-this-is-canon-i-may-as-well-go-along-with-it-cuz-it's-written-word-and-no-one-can-change-that sorta ship like RubyxSapphire. Y'know? Cuz it'll give you bad publicity if you go against it (Not like I would ever dream of doing such a thing) and...yeah. Y'get what I'm sayin'?

Personally, I'd love it if it were more canon, ya'know? Fan stuff is great, but actual evidence of a romantic relationship is better. Besides, they already have a het couple in the series, give us some gay! xD
