"When the world begins to split, the forces of light and darkness must split forever, leaving chaos in it's place. Only when the forces reunite through one who has kept the balance shall chaos be banished forever more"
Tablet found in the Ruins of Alph

It all started in front of a television screen. A twin battle was taking place at the Sinnoh League between a pair of Haunters and a pairing of Glameow and Metagross. The fight seemed fast paced, yet the pair watching the T.V. caught every detail, as if transfixed. The children were twins, Cain and Abigail Nightly, who had only moved to Pallet town the previous year. Both were only a day away from receiving their Pokemon licence from Prof Oak in the morning. They knew that when they got their licences that they would finally be able to train to become tag team champions on the battle circuit.

"One Rawst-chocolate bar on the Haunters to win" Abigail shouted, placing the candy in a hoop in front of them.
"I put in one Oran bar for Glameow and Metagross then" Cain said, sure of his little wager.
The Haunters used nightshade on Metagross, sending him back a couple of feet. Glameow took this chance to use Ice claw on the pair. The ghost pokemon suddenly became unsteady and began to shake. Matagross finally recovered and used Ancient Power and sent the ghosts sprawling. The Judge claimed that both pokemon were now unfit to continue battling and declared Metagross and Glameow winners.
Cain suddenly started gleaming towards his sister as he withdrew both bars from the hoop. Abi looked flustered.
    "Alright, double or..."
"That will be nothing!" Came their mothers voice from the doorframe.
The pair shieked in shocked union. Mrs Nightly wasn't a strict woman, but seeing her children gambling with snacks at this age made her worry about their futures. It was only when she saw them do this that she put on a look that almost made the twins want to wet their pants.
"Don't you two think you should get to bed?" Mrs Nightly glared as she said this. "It is 9pm afterall"
    "But mom..." Cain tried protesting.
"Enough!" Mrs Nightly boomed. "Get to bed, or I'll ask Prof. Oak to give you both Magikarp to start off with."
The pair suddenly got to their feet and ran to their rooms. As much as they liked Magikarps evolved form, the didn't think they could bare to constantly be training a near-worthless pokemon.

That night, Cain and Abi were dreaming about what pokemon they could eventually have, though the other twin didn't seem to be accompanying each other. Cain dreamt of having a Dragonaire and asking advise from the towns resident Champion, Ash Ketchem. He also saw both of them in a battle against a woman with Blonde hair, draped in black and man with silver hair, dressed in a suit.
Abi, on the other hand, dreamt about being with a group of people, all in uniform, all trying to become the best pokemon trainer by any means necessary. She also saw a man with Red hair trying to stop her from taking this path. She then sees a woman with a bulky hat and a man with a black and yellow cap yelling at her for trying to take advantage of pokemons natures.

Both twins arose to the sound of a Spearow chasing a group of Caterpie outside their house. The time was 7:30, just an hour and a half before they had to be at Prof Oak's lab. Prof Oak was only 32 and, rumour had it, that he took over from his Grandfather 7 years ago. There was another rumour that he had once won the Indego league, but Cain couldn't see why a man who won the league would settle to being a Professor.

Both Abi and Cain got out of bed and went down to eat their cereal. After Abi told Cain of her dream, Cain began to laugh.
"You seriously think you're popular enough to be in a trainers club."
Abi had told Cain that all the people in uniforms had to be a club. He didn't seem at all concerned about the two adults rushing her.
"oh yeah," Abi began in a huff. "You seriously think YOU could catch a Dragonaire?"
"I have more chance of my dream coming true than yours."

That tipped Abi over the edge. How could Cain be so mean to her, she wondered. He hadn't acted like this before. Why was he suddenly acting so cocky. With that, Abi left her breakfast and went storming out of the house. Mrs Nightly called down to see who had left. Cain spared no emotion in letting Abi go and telling his mom.

Abi ran as fast as she could to Prof Oak's lab. She wanted to get all thoughts of Cain's taunting out of her head. She knew she wasn't that popular. In fact, she only had one person who she hung out with and that was always Cain. He made her feel so foolish this morning that she felt a gaping hole of lonliness. She vowed from the very moment she left the front door, that she would prove that she could make friends and that she would do just fine without him. She was lost in her own dark thoughts when she suddenly bumped into the backpack of a man roughly in his 30's. She looked up and saw that the man wore a Red baseball cap with the indego League logo on it, a green waistcoat and he seemed to be carrying a large yellow rodent with red cheeks. A Pikachu?
The man turned round to Abi, who was lost for words at who this man was.
"Are you ok, little one?" He asked with genuine concern. Abi must have looked like a right fool in front of him. She tried everything she could to stop going all fangirl and suddenly composed herself.
"um, my name's Abi Nightly," She said and curtsied to the man in front of her.
"Ah, you're one of the children of the woman who bought my old house."
Now Abi was really surprised. The champion of Pallet town lived in her house.
"My name's Ash by the way." He extended his arm out to the little girl. "Where are you off to at such an early hour?"
"I'm going to Prof Oak's lab" She said, suddenly forgetting about her brother.
Ash began to laugh, as did his Pikachu.
    "What's so funny?" Abi asked.
"Nothing," Ash said suddenly. "you just remind me of myself at your age."
    "What do you mean?"
"Nothing, just try not to have an accident before you get to the lab." Ash said cryptically. With that, he walked off.
Abii stood there, dumbfounded at how the Champion behaved towards her. Is he really that much of a jerk? Abi felt that her encounter with him completly brought down all her expectations. She was once told never to meet her idols. Was this the reason why?

10 Minutes later, Abi arrived at Prof Oak's lab. She knocked on the door and a viewing slit opened. A pair of eyes looked down to hers from the rectangular shaped hole in the door.
"Ah, Abi, you're very early." The voice to which the eyes belonged said.
The viewing slit closed and the door opened. Prof Oak stood there with his brown hair combed back and with a clipboard in hand. He suddenly let out a tiny snigger of laughter.
"Why's everyone laughing at me today." Abi huffed.
"Seeing you like that just brings back memories." The Prof said.
"What do you mean?" Abi ventured.
"The day I got my first pokemon, someone ran up to this lab, also dressed in their pajama's."
Abi suddenly went red. She looked down and saw that she was still wearing her pink night clothes. She was in such a rush to get away from Cain that she didn't bother to change.
"Don't worry," Prof Oak said. "I thought this might happen again someday, so I asked your father to drop off some clothes for you and your brother."
Abi gleemed. This Prof seemed to know everything. After a few seconds to let the embarressment slide, she walked into the Prof's lab and took her final step as a child and her first step as a trainer.

This is the first chapter. i will add more to this post when I get the chance.

I really enjoyed this first chapter, I look forward to reading future installments, I think the idea is brilliant and I love how Gary has became the town's professor.

The only problems I could see were a few small errors in spelling "Ketchem" should be Ketchum and "Dragonaire" should be Dragonair.

Keep up the good work :)

Thanks for the pointers. Gary has taken over Samuel's job due to him having suffered a fatal injury at the power plant (Shocked by a pair of wild Raichu)

Ooh interesting, I just assumed Samuel just retired. I love future fics like this, I look forward to seeing more chapters :D

Prof Oak brought forth a table with five pokeballs on it. Abi looked at the table with bewilderment, she assumed that only three would be offered. She looked at the plaques in front of each ball: Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle, Eevee and a Pokemon's name she had never seen before.
"What's Shoctick?" she asked, her voice lilting at this unknown species.
"That's what I need someone to find out." Prof Oak replied. "Shoctick is a Pokemon that was discovered only recently. Nothing is known about it other than it's a electro-rock pokemon."
"You mean it's a rock Pokemon that knows electric attacks?" Abi jumped in.
"I mean what I said." The professor said coyly. "It's a Pokemon who shares the attributes of both types and shares both their strengths and weaknesses."
Either curiosity drew her to the unknown, or the knowledge of a new, rare Pokemon was being offered drew her to the ball. She didn't move, but her mind was picking up the ball and letting the little tyke out.
Suddenly, a loud clapping noise brought Abi back to reality.
"You O.K?" Professor Oak asked, slightly concerned. Abi turned back to the table and saw the Pokeball was still on the table, exactly where it was when the professor wheeled it out. Abi wonder what came over her. The lure she was feeling towards this Pokeball was unnatural. If this is what destiny was supposed to feel like, it was mighty uncomfortable. Her mind and body were telling her that this Pokemon was hers, but her baser instincts were holding her back.
"Do you know which one you want to have yet?" The professor asked patiently.
Every thing bar her instincts wanted Shoctick, but her instincts weren't telling her what other Pokemon would be fitting.
"I'll..." She began slowly. "I'll go for Shoctick."
Although she was glad she had finally chosen her first Pokemon, the strange feeling was still holding firm.
The Pokeball was lifted from the table and Professor Oak handed it to Abi. "It's time for you to meet your partner." He said with a touch of admiration in his voice. Abi took hold of the ball, stared at it for a second, and threw it ceiling-wards. "Come on out Shoctick!"
