Why hello there! I'm gonna do a different format that most people have here (typing out a paragraph or paragraphs) and go for a more quick-fire approach to giving out the basic information about myself!
    • My name is Jake
    • This is me
    • I'm 20 years old (5 more months until my 21st!)
    • I'm an RIT student majoring in computer science
    • Ironically, I'm not terribly fond of it. I've decided to go to community college while I figure it out instead of paying 40 grand when I don't know what I want to do!
    • I worked at Wegmans (a grocery store) for 4 years. I finally just got a new job at a call center working for a group that takes care of parts and cases for companies like IBM and Intel.
    • I'm gay and have been dating my boyfriend for a year and two plus months
    • I like to play guitar and occasionally record covers
    • Pokémon X/Y has got me more excited than any generation since GSC
    • I'm a mod on PC's Showdown Server, so you should probably come check out our craziness (Link in my sig c:)
    • Other general interests: competitive battling, video games, hanging out with friends (whether just relaxed or something of the partying variety), racquetball, running, football, and baseball
    • My music taste is extremely eclectic, but it all comes back to home base with the stereotypical bro stuff (John Mayer, Dave Matthews, etc.)

So there's a quick overview, go nuts!

    Hi Jake!

    1. Who are you choosing as your starter on X&Y?
    2. Are there any other instruments that you would like to learn to play?
    3. Tom smells y/y?

1: Chespin. It's adorable, it's the Grass type, and it's just awesome and not Froakie
2: YES! Piano, saxophone, drums, violin, cello, trumpet. Honestly if you put it in front of me I'd want to learn it.
    3: Duh

I have! I've been to Canada multiple times, the Bahamas, as well as Mexico! Enjoyed them all very much!

hmu when you wanna learn sax. ;)

How did you and your boyfriend meet?

    Oh gurl c;

    Short version: Grindr
Long(er) version: After talking on it for a good few weeks, we decided to exchange phone numbers and actually go on a real date in person. Picked him up and we went to Red Robin, and the rest is history!

    Jakey <3

What other majors are you interested in besides the one you're in now?

Psychology is a big one. The way people act and the human brain fascinate me, but I guess I never went for it because "blah blah blah it's not practical, get a job in a STEM major". So perhaps I'll go for that!

I have to ask you this:

What keeps you going in competitive battling? I ask this because...well, given the current status of things, it seems that (and I could be wrong) B/W / BW2's competitive kind of tanked, and I thought you would lose motivation because of that. Is there anything in particular that you're hoping for out of Gen VI's competitive metagame (aka any tier changes in current Pokemon (I bet most of what's currently OU is going to be UU but that's my guess))? To expand on the first question (or clarify), do you feel competitive battling is getting worse, or better?

I feel at this point it's half nostalgia and half actual interest. I mean, when I came here in 2008, after downloading Shiny Gold, I entered S&M and integrated myself into the community. I have a lot of fond memories over the past 5 years from Shoddy/PO/PS, and it's not something I'm willing to walk away from yet. In terms of actual interest, I just found that when something starts to get stale (a metagame, battling as a whole), I just change my focus. It's simple just switching to a new tier, but if my actual interest totally wanes I tend to just take it far less seriously that I was (even though I'm not taking it too seriously to begin with), and just enjoy it instead of putting any sort of goals or pressure on myself.

For what I want to change with Gen VI, I'm really hoping for OU to get some sense of balance for it. I mean, Gen V is a craphole, and even though it's definitely playable, it's not something that I enjoy. Something to bring the power creep that Gen V brought back down so we have some balance would be lovely. I mean, with new Pokémon introduced, stuff that's OU now will probably get shifted to UU, but there's nothing specific that I really want to see there.

As far as is competitive getting better or worse as a whole, I can't really answer that. It's a pretty subjective question. I see it more as shifting focus and adapting to what we have to work with. Am I really fond of it? No, but some people are. It's not necessarily worse, it's just different.

Who do you like playing as in Super Smash Bros?

Depends on which Smash Bros. In Melee I love using Jigglypuff, Captain Falcon, and Pikachu. In Brawl, I pretty much just abuse Pokémon Trainer =P

How excited are you for Ten's return in the fiftieth anniversary of Doctor Who? Do you have any hopes for the special?

    AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO EXCITEDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD!!!!

But seriously, when I found out him and Rose were coming back I flipped out. As for expectations for the special, I really don't have any. I have no idea what the story is about,t or what's even happening, so I'm pretty much going in open-minded and hoping for something awesome!

    Why are you so cool?

    Also do you enjoy rollercoasters?

    Because we're twins

Hell yes. We don't have a lot of great rollercoasters around here (other than like the Man of Steel ride every Six Flags have), but I want to go to Cedar Point so badly.

Who is going to win American Idol?

What is your favorite song to play on the guitar?

    What is your favorite food?

Would you like to learn any new languages and why?

    Golurks is a nub y/y?

    What's your favorite chord progression?

Who is your idol? For everything. Not just music or whatever. Just in general.

    • Angie Miller. Duh.
    • Oh god, this is a toughie. I love playing John Mayer stuff (Specifically Wait Until Tomorrow, Why Georgia, Stop This Train, and Free Fallin') because they're both fun and challenging. But I just like playing in general, it's really soothing for me and I kind of enter my own little world where the rest of the world is tuned out and I just get in the zone.
    • This is also hard. I love pizza for something simple, but I love making Chicken Pot Pie. Plus steak and bacon are always delicious. And there's Chicken French. I JUST LIKE DINNER FOOD A LOT OKAY?

Would you like to learn any new languages and why?

    • I've actually been using Duolingo to learn German because it's just an interesting language. I'd also like to learn some form of Chinese, as well as Spanish.
    • Was this actually necessary to ask?

    What's your favorite chord progression?

Who is your idol? For everything. Not just music or whatever. Just in general.

    • It's definitely not the four chord song progression (Em, C, D, G). I guess I like Cm, A, E, B. Depending on the order that you play them in it can sound really upbeat and happy (Like in This by Darius Rucker), or more somber and sad (like in Hero of War by Rise Against). I like the versatility I guess.
    • I really look up to my mom. She has a lot of traits that I try my best to embody (decisiveness, strength, conviction, ambitiousness, integrity, honesty) that I really value and she really is a role model for them. Plus for being a parent she's always in the know-how for everything that's happening. She's really easy to talk to and her opinion is probably the one (other than my own) that I value the most.
