When creating player characters, do you tend to go with a general personality, or do to try to make your cast as diverse as possible? You might not make every single one of your characters a copy of each other, but they might all be more happy personalities than brooding, or the other way around? Do you tend create your characters in such a way that they have a general characteristic that they share?

I think that there are two kinds of personalities that I use. The first are for my own characters, where I try to make my personalities both as interesting and believable as possible, while trying not to repeat anything.

The second is what I just learned, the art of created about a dozen or more NPCs all with personalities as a GM. In that case, its nice to fall back on some stereotypical personalities cuz I'm a lazy horrible GM.
