The world is vast and full of mysteries. In some parts of the world, humans and Pokemon live together in harmony, accomplishing great things and forming powerful bonds of friendship. In other parts of the world, Pokemon are nearly absent, leaving only humans and their civilizations. Yet also, the opposite is true, for in other parts, humans are nowhere to be found, and the Pokemon live amongst themselves...
Greetings. My name is Matilda, the Guildmaster's assistant for Glade Spring's Explorer's Guild. Before we get started, let me explain a little about us. The Guild takes any requests from Glade Springs and Meowth's Port and provides many services such as lost and found, rescue missions, and exploration. The Guild's exploits are well known and several rescue teams have come and gone, rising to fame and inspiring the next generation of young ones to make their own mark on the world.
This is where you come in. You can be one of the many new recruits of the Guild. Your reasons for joining are your own; perhaps you seek great fame and fortune or have a burning desire for adventure in your heart. Whatever your reasons, you may undertake an apprenticeship wherein you will be examined to determine if you are fit for the rigorous duty of being an explorer. After all, it's a dangerous world out there. It wouldn't be right to send you off unprepared, now would it?
Many opportunities lie in store for you. Friendships, rivalries, victories, defeats, and much more. What kind of adventure will you have?
YOU
Hey, everyone! And welcome to Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: The Frozen Gate! This RP will try to stick as closely to the PMD games as possible. The biggest difference (other than lack of AI) is that in this rendition you will not be playing as a human turned Pokemon, but a Pokemon dreaming of being an official member of the Glade Springs Explorer's Guild. The RP will open up with the players already registered into the Guild. They won't be considered full members yet, but they won't have just joined either. This helps us skip a few basic interactions and jump right into the plot! (For the most part, anyways). I think it will also allow your characters to have prior relationships with each other, so please, try your best to collaborate! Other than that, if you've played the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games before, you have a good idea of how the plot unfolds. If not, feel free to ask me or Gibs any questions you might have.
We will try to take community suggestions as much as we can, so if you have a cool idea once the RP starts don't hesitate to ask us! We could add it into the plot! ;) Other than that, general critiques are fine. This is my first time GMing so if you think something could have been done better please tell me!
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Leveling
All Pokemon will be level 10-15 at the start of the RP. If you want your character to be higher levelled you will need to talk it over with the GMs. Leveling up will be handled behind the scenes by the GMs so you won't need to keep track of experience or anything of the sort.
Evolution is permitted in the RP when the character reaches the appropriate level. It is, of course, up to the RPer to decide when they want to evolve at that point.
Moves
For Moves, one egg move is permitted. TMs/HMs are purchased at a high price at shops. If you want a TM/HM you need to have a good explanation. TM/HM moves can be found throughout the RP otherwise. If your character can naturally use a move such as Fly you do not need to use that for one of your moves.
RPers can start with up to six moves. From there they can continue gaining moves without forgetting old moves. Like the games, a Pokemon's moves can become stronger with use. However, we'll leave deciding that up to the RPers and through judgement calls by the GMs.
Basic Attacks do exist in this RP and they do not need to be counted in your moveset. A Basic Attack is an attack used by a Pokemon that isn't in their moveset and/or is a move that can be learned by a Pokemon. Basic Attacks are always weaker than normal attacks.
Items
Items found in the RP will be determined by a random generator before being applied to the RP. Like in the games not all items can be found in dungeons and not all items can be bought. Likewise, if you want to sell an item, not all items can be sold. The prices of each item are based on Gates to Infinity or earlier based on documentation on Bulbapedia.
Since items appearing in the dungeon can't be done quite like the games, a number of items will be randomly generated and then selected for that floor. When the players enter the floor the list of findable items will be shown. Players can collect items during their time on that floor at their leisure. We just ask that players please try and be realistic when finding items. These are dungeons so you're not likely to find everything right next to each other!
Encounters
For the most part, we're sure that RPers will generate encounters between them and other Pokemon while walking around in dungeons. However, if we feel that not enough battles are taking place we may use another random number generator to determine whether or not a Pokemon appears.
Dungeons
Dungeons can have anywhere from 1-5 floors (7 if we're really being sadistic) that the RPers must travel through. The dungeons and dungeon floors will be randomly generated once entered. Unlike the game, players will have a full view of the map, but they will still have to find the stairs.
Forbidden Pokemon
This is a list of which Pokémon you may not choose as a character.
We'd also prefer if everyone have different Pokemon, but it is not a requirement.
Judging
SUs submitted to this RP will be judged on quality before being accepted. However, don't fret! The requirements aren't hard! We really want to see that the characters are at least partially developed before going on stage so we require that you meet a few criteria in your SU in order to get in. The SUs submitted to this RP must follow the 321 Rule!
What is the 321 Rule? Not much. You can write your SU any way you want to (as long as you follow Community guidelines), however, we want to make sure you have these few things in your SU before doing so. Your SU will need to at least have 3 good things, 2 bad things, and 1 like/dislike/quirk when describing your character. Really nothing too bad. However, there have been problems with this in the past so we're going to clear up some basic things in the spoiler below.
What is a good thing?
A good thing is any positive thing about your character. This doesn't mean they have to be nice, it just means they need something positive! A positive thing, for example, can be that they're skilled at doing something. A positive thing doesn't have to be in the personality. Something can also be considered positive if it helps your character out in some way. So even if the trait might be considered negative, if it works in the favor of your character it's an auto-positive! ;D Just make sure you make it clear so we understand.
What is a bad thing?
A bad thing is anything negative about your character! Basically, the opposite of a good thing. This can either be something they're not good at or your character having a negative personality trait. Again, your character can have something normally considered positive that hurts them. For example, your character might be very good at thinking up all kinds of new and interesting plans. The downside is is that they think up too many plans, can never focus on a single thing, and are bad at decision making as a result.
What if I have neither?
This is just considered a neutral thing. Basically, neutral traits are things that aren't too outstanding in an individual person. For example, being nice to others, while it is good, is not something considered very unique. It's how far that niceness goes that makes it a good thing. Other traits that become neutral things are traits that involve the input of other characters. For example, if you have a phrase that says "they annoy everyone around them" or "people usually consider them mean". While that is a valid part of your character, there is no telling how the RPers characters will react to your own. It, unfortunately, can't be counted as a good or bad thing. Another reason your character trait might be considered neutral is because there was no discernable positive or negative impact on your character. For example, being a big fan of napping isn't really a bad thing if it doesn't hold your character back in some way.
Below I will add additional information about the 321 rule from when it was first implemented and how judging will go. If you have any more questions feel free to ask!
If you would like us to send our judgement privately, please let us know in your post!
We will be waiting about a week to a week and a half before doing nudging. Until then we may help potential members to the RP with their SUs if we see anything is wrong.

Kikpanther said:I just want to point out to everyone that it's not necessary to make a reserve given the nature of our judging, so if you want to make an SU just go ahead and post it!
Also a second thing, to anyone who may be intimidated by the judging system, don't be!!! Comparing SUs does not mean we're looking for advanced players, SU professionals, or eloquent writers. You can be a beginner player, a bad SU maker, or someone with not-so-great prose as long as we can tell you put effort into your SU, you've made a well-rounded character, and you've met all of the minimums. Everyone has an equal chance here!
And if you're still nervous please don't be afraid to post your SU! If you have questions or want to help tweaking, we'll be more than happy to give you a hand! Asking for help shows that you really care about the RP and that you're an enthusiastic player. (In my book, that gives you extra marks!)
Now, just for a little clarification on the judging system, I'll give you a little bit on how we'll tell you yes or no. When you post your SUs we'll reply with Accepted, Pending, or Denied.
If you're Accepted then yay you're in the RP! Celebrate, kick back, and wait for the first post.
If you're Pending that means that your SU was pretty darn great, even worthy of being accepted! But you had one or two little problems that we'd like you to address before we can let you in. No biggie. It'll probably be one quick edit and then bam you're in. And, of course, we will tell you exactly what you'll need to fix.
If you're Denied then that means your SU was not up to standard or we picked another SU over yours. However, unless we've met full capacity, BEING DENIED DOES NOT PUT YOU OUT OF THE RUNNING! Just like if you're pending, we will tell you exactly why your SU was denied. If you really want to be in the RP, fix your SU to your best abilities (you can even PM it to one of us to help you on it before you officially post it!) and resubmit it. You'll have another chance to enter the RP!
And like I said before, asking questions and resubmitting is perfectly okay! For this system, persistence isn't annoying but encouraged! I'll be more than happy to accept someone who is excited and enthusiastic enough to keep editing and submitting.
Good luck to everyone! And remember, if at first you don't succeed, try, try again.
If you would like us to send our judgement privately, please let us know in your post!
We will be waiting about a week to a week and a half before doing nudging. Until then we may help potential members to the RP with their SUs if we see anything is wrong.

There, the explorers discovered a fantastic tundra ecosystem created by the ice types living deep in the cave, however, they found no evidence of the ice demon Kyurem's presence. Instead, they found was what they described as maps and writings pointing towards another mystery. Whatever happened, Kyurem's Den has maintained its dangerous title and future explorers have not been allowed to continue researching inside for fear they will anger Kyurem once again.

Tar Marsh
An area so wet and muddy it is hard to escape. Pokemon who walk here can end up sinking into the mud if they don't get a move on, but sometimes that doesn't even work. In the middle of the Marsh is Crystal Lake, a Lake thought to be able to heal those who enter it.
Underground Path
An old underground path formerly used to get to the Rock Mines. It used to be the safest and fastest way to the Rock Mine until a cave-in cut off the path entirely. Now it's said to be populated only by Ghost Types.
Rock Mine

Meowth's Port
Meowth's Port was founded and governed by Red, an eccentric Meowth from across the sea. He and his large family settled by the beach side years ago in search of good fish and good trading opportunities! According to Red, his family comes from a land that was in dire need of unique food and minerals. Red traveled down until he eventually settled where Meowth's Port stands now. He credits it all to the delectable food offered by the ocean that kept him on the beach when he was supposed to be exploring. He eventually made a small settlement which grew into the populated town of Meowth's Port! Since then many of his family members have moved down, making it the largest and oldest running family in the area. Meowth's Port may not be the biggest town for exports, it still has a good amount of loyal and excited citizens! It is said that Hue, the mayor of Glade Springs, comes for Meowth's Port.
While the Port's spirit may have come along with Hue he is not as eccentric as his fellow founder across the way.

Spoiler:
Scrafty's Scrap Pit
The Scrap Pit is a popular dojo in Glade Springs. Here, residents can come for fun exercise or to raise their skills and become better fighters. Pokemon can also increase the strength of their attacks or learn moves faster here.
Players can have one skill when signing up and up to three during the entire RP. Skills are not required for success in the RP.
Nontraitor
Confused Pokémon can tell the difference between friend and foe, and will not attack allies during the confusion.
Self-Curer
Status effects cure on their own after a period of time.
Type-Advantage Master
The Pokémon has spent a good amount of time practicing typed attacks, allowing it to more easily score finishing blows against foes with a type disadvantage.
Nonsleeper
The Pokémon is naturally resistant to sleep-inducing effects, such as from traps or moves.
Sure-Hit Attacker
Standard attacks (not moves or abilities) made by the Pokémon will never miss.
Sharpshooter
Allows the Pokémon to detect weak points on an enemy, granting them an edge in battle.
Hit-and-Runner
If the Pokémon engages and runs from the foe, counter-strike moves such as Mirror Coat and Counter will not affect them.
Counter Basher
The Pokémon is skilled in trading blows. The Pokémon has a chance to counter attacks made against them with one of their own. This skill lowers the Pokémon's overall defense by a small amount.
Quick-Healer
The Pokémon recovers health and vitality faster than normal.
Clutch Performer
When in danger, the Pokémon's evasiveness is raised, allowing it to dodge attacks more easily. This effect only lasts while the Pokémon is in danger.
Intimidator
The Pokémon is naturally intimidating and imposing, lowering the defense and attack of enemies in combat.
No-Charger
Moves that require a charging period (such as Solar Beam and Focus Punch) may be activated immediately, negating the charging period. Moves activated in this manner will be far more taxing on the Pokémon's energy, however.
Quick Striker
Allows the Pokémon to follow up any activated move with a standard attack. If the first move misses, this effect is cancelled.
Bunnelby's Wares
Here at Bunnelby's Wares, you can buy whatever items you need! Bunnelby always makes sure there's something new at his shop every time you visit, so be sure to come by every day!
The items in Bunnelby's shop are taken from every PMD game excluding Super Pokemon Mystery Dungeon. We could not incorporate every item into this RP since there are items that are only applicable in an AI experience. Money to buy from Bunnelby can be found in dungeons and may be awarded after the end of a mission. Don't spend it all in one place, though! He's not the only merchant around.
Deposit Box
Storage for your excess items. Every team member is restricted to five items until they are official rescue team members which will allow them ten. There is a Deposit Box in every major area.
Jellicent's Peek-A-Boo
An appraisal shop. Whenever a treasure box is found you can take it here to find the rare treasure inside!
Spoiler:
