Story Time

[Socratic]

Do you have any stories of your playthroughs of Pokemon? Epic tales of conquer? Victory snatched from the jaws of defeat, or vice versa?
Or just a funny story?

I have a few tales to share, but do you folks? Feel free to!

This one is sad ;(

SO, I'm about seven years old, playing on my Leaf Green. I'm just travelling along on my merry way through Kanto. I had only just started the new game up, and had just battled my Rival on Route 22, collected the Potion, etc. I went North next, of course, to Viridian Forest on my way to Pewter. I was still pretty new to Pokemon then, though it was my second time in Kanto, so I was just walking around, looking for hidden items in the grass when

BAM

A SHINY METAPOD APPEARED

I saw the twinkle. I saw its scarlet glow. I caught it due to its uniqueness. But alas; I did not know what a Shiny Pokemon was.

A little backstory; I may not have had any experience with Shinies, but I did have experience with NES glitches. Knowing that glitches often change the appearance of characters, I thought of this as a glitch; knowing also that glitches can disappear when you turn off the game made me never turn it off. EVER. I kept my GPA SP plugged in *constantly.* I also never saved; if I was never turning it off, I would never need to. Waste of time, I thought.

I was wrong.

In a few weeks the inevitable happened. I left the game unplugged for too long; the battery died. My scarlet Metapod was lost forever. But did I care at the time? No. Just another graphical error been and gone. I didn't find out the truth for years. However, there were no worries, no tears she'd on that day.

But I'm crying now :P

A few weeks later, the exact same thing happened with a Shroomish on my Sapphire.

When I was young, I'd inherited my cousin's Crystal game right.
So he'd already had a save file on it so of course wanting ti to be my own journey on there instead, I'd restarted the game. When I was playing and it was time to save, when the confirmation of "Are you sure to overwrite last save state?" and I was freaking out cause I thought atm it would erase all of the gameplay I had done so I didn't save, but I knew if I'd turned it off all my gameplay would be gone.
So, I'd never turned that gameboy off, AT ALL.
I remember vividly I was about to challenge the Elite Four and I was called to lunch, when I'd put my gameboy down I'd accidentally touched the cartilage and it popped out (but I didn't notice.) When I'd came back from lunch and was ready to take on the Elite Four, it was frozen right and I'd started freaking out and I had no choice but to turn off the gameboy and start from the very beginning of my game.
Very traumatic and that's why I save my game all the time right before I do something lol.

This is a more recent story but one that I still can't get over.

So I was playing through my copy of Omega Ruby a few days after launch and searching for an Electrike under the cycling road, my first encounter in that entire route was a shiny Electrike...

I was so amazed and annoyed at the same time, I've spent countless hours in past games searching for a specific shiny Pokemon and here one appears without me even wanting it. Needless to say that Electrike was eventually a shiny Mega Manectric and a vital part of my OR team.
