an idea for a new pokemon spinoff game.

so i'd been rewatching all the pokemon contests the sinnoh region anime, and i feel like there should be, like, a pokemon game where you play as a real coordinator - not just the in game pokemon contests, but living as a real life pokemon coordinator - breeding pokemon, making the pokeblocks, winning contests, etc. idk but it would seem like an interesting idea! <3

I remember having that thought as well - but for a £35-40 game you need more to do, which is part of why we have contests in the first place.

i think a lot about spinoff ideas but that isn't one I've considered before! I certainly think it's an interesting concept, though of course it would need to be fleshed out a lot and gain a bit of depth before it could ever become an actual game.

I definitely think it would be fun to discuss this more and see what we could come up with. imo, the two big initial questions for planning a new type of game:
-- what is the goal of the game?
-- what creates the level curve? ie, what is it that makes later parts of the game more difficult than earlier parts

I could see a Contest version of Battle Frontier, where you compete in increasing levels of contest in each of 5 categories like normal - however, above Master Rank you would have to compete against 3 others who have absolutely perfect contest pokémon, presumably rare as well. Perhaps they would all gang up on you rather than competing with each other as well.

If you're doing a full game though yeah level curve is probably the main issue.

They would definitely need to add in more features for this, if they could implement the Contest Battles like in the anime to a spin-off like this then we got a winner !!!

I think there would have to be more content, but with small to medium size regions and a 'league' system with a grand festival type competition at the end, I would honestly be really interested in a spinoff game like this!

these are cool ideas for sure :) I wasn't really thinking of being able to explore and go to several contests in different places but that sounds really neat. I wonder, how would travelling work? Would there be normal battles/wild pokémon? or would the battling system be altered a lot or removed altogether.
