I think they should either do 2-D with Animations, do something like Paper Mairo, or do Sonic Rush-like things with the game! But if it wer all or nothing, 2-D for more space and that classic style.

Graphics should stay 2d but animated pokemon sprites should come back. (wouldn't it be cool to be able to throw the pokeball with the touch screen?)

I think Pokemon is more suited for cel-shading then Zelda ever was. While I love the art style of WW and really think it's better then the art for Twilight Princess, there is no doubt it hurt the series because it had more of a sense of realism, especially compared to Pokemon which is already looked upon as "kiddy" by the masses.

Besides that there is also the fact that cel-shading has gotten much better use since WW, like in Shin Megami Tensei and even the recent Tony Hawk American Sk8land on the DS which are games that people didn't frown upon because it was using cel-shading.

That said my real wish is just for the environments to use some sort of 3D engine, preferrably one involving cel-shading, while keeping the sprites for characters and pokemon. I think the idea could work very well with Pokemon. But things don't always look as good as they do on paper do they?

Methinks the reason that TP has some wierder graphics is because Nintendo tried too hard >_>. I mean only so much detail can be added before it looks worse off than it used to be. But still, the realism of it made it more of a sight IMO than WW graphics, in which the facial expressions looked almost as bad as OOT. That said, I don't think cel-shading belongs in the Pokemon world, especially with some of the poses that some of the characters are in.

3D would be impossible for a Pokemon RPG on the DS.

perhaps 2.5D? Think the Donkey Kong Country games for the SNES. There could be 3D character and environment models, but you're essentially still just moving around in the same 2D overworld...

The DKC games didn't have 3D characters or enviornment models, the sprites just looked 3D. It's called pseudo 3D.

Why do you think it would be impossible? Look at Sonic Rush for DS. The characters are actual 3D models running on 2D backgrounds. Explain your reasoning please?

2D, Pleease. Otherwize, we wouldn't be able to get a close look at the actual Pokemon, and there wouldn't be any sprites to rip! Handheld Pokemon Games should stay 2D. Pokemon has done both 2D and 3D on the DS before, But with an RPG like that they REALLY should stick with 2D.

When was this? I missed it! (Edit: If you're talking about Pokemon Dash, that doesn't count :P)

Think about what they could do with 3D models. Pokemon would no longer have to be static during battle. They could move with fluid motion. If they kept the fixed camera system, they could even make to collide* for physical attacks. (The dynamic camera of Colo and XD made this difficult). I agree with certain 2D aspects, eg, I believe the world should be 2D, similar to how Ranger looks. What I'm saying is that the actual pokemon should be 3D. Everything else can be 2D, as long as they make it look good :)

*I meant to say it this way. It means look like a collission. Due to the fixed camera, they wouldn't have to, yet it would look believable.

Does Sonic Rush have over 500 Pokemon that would need 3D models to make the game 3D in it?

2-D, 3-d would be better, but the DS can't fit such a huge game in such little space, it would probably only have like four gyms and 150 pokemon

As far as 3D-ness goes, Ocarina had lots of monsters and a huge 3D overworld. It fit on a 256 MBit cart. DS game cards can hold 1 GBit or more according to Nintendo. That should be more than enough space for decient poly models of the 386+new pokemon, plus a nice 2D world.

Again. Look at OoT. That was a huge game. And it was only 256MBit. You can fit 4 Ocarina games on a DS game card.

Remember. The DS only has N64+ graphics, plus a small screen. You don't need super high-res models.
