    How to Apply a Patch to a ROM
    (How to Play a Hack)

    In general, you will need the following:
    • A patch of the hack you want to play (typically found in the hack's thread, in .ips or .ups format)
    • The ROM the hack you want to play is based on (.gbc/.gba files - don't ask where to get these)
    • An emulator, to play the hack (configured so that its save type is Flash 128 KB)
    • A patching tool, to apply the patch to the ROM

    The types of emulators and patching tools you will need depends on the platform you are using. Therefore, instructions for each platform will be provided in the spoilers below:
