I've got two choices here for a new PC, and I heard good things about both, but I thought I'd get advice from you computer buffs =P

HP by far, coverage is much better, and they're just cooler. Plus I think they'd have more features you'd like.

Dell Computers are something like everyone I know had a problem. My cousin got a computer for graduation, and set it up the same day. Well two days ago, it didn't start up, and she doesn't know why. It wasn't even a month old lol.

    Shouldn't this be in voting polls? o.O;;;
    *Ish confused*
    Meh, I'd say HP computers are much more better than Dell ones. I heard the Dell ones freeze and crash easy. >>;

    I have a He...I mean Dell... :P
Within the past year, I've had to replace the power supply and the modem. And the computers a year and a half old... <_<
Their desktops are horrible, but Dell laptops are nice though- some of the best on the market. So if you're looking for a laptop, I'd get a Dell.
HPs suck too. I plan on building my next comp (after the laptop I'm planning on gettign for college XD), so you might want to look into that. If you live in the US you can get some great deals on parts from Newegg. I think it takes maybe two or three hours to build one, and they're better than anything you can buy prebuilt. And there are a ton of tutorials on the Net.

I also have a Dell and I have had some major problems with it. I have spyware coming out the [you know where XP]. And I am amazed that my interent even still work. I would say go with HP...anything could be better than what I have.

But I would get a Dell, only if you buy the XPS...Which is super expensive.

You can't blame the spyware on the brand... <_< That's why Firefox was invented... :P
And the XPS is just a glorified 8300 or 9100 with a prettier case- it has pretty much the exact components inside except I think it has a little more powerful power supply.

Morkula, Dell is WELL known for putting spyware on their computers at manufacture. Compaq did the same thing using Backweb until recently.

I use nothing but eMachines. My old Desktop, my new desktop, my uncle's desktop, and my laptop are all by eMachines. They're durable as hell, and I've never had to replace anything besides the vid cards and memory, and those were just for upgrades.

If you don't go with eMachines, though, go with HP. I've got one of their scanners, and it's about 4 years old. Hasn't failed me once, even after all the abuse it's been through.

HP. Much better than Dell. Dell is a bad company, in my mind, only intent on making as much profit as possible.

And their tech support sucks. Even if it's clearly a hardware problem their outsourced call centres tell you to run Windows driver crap when you're not using Windows... Yeah... End of rant.

Other Voting Polls is for polls that don't have a respective forum (hence the other), and... well, this isn't exactly a poll, DT was asking for other people's opinions. An example of a poll: 'Which is better - HP or Dell?'

And yes, Hewlett Packard easily owns Dell. Actually, you're better off buying the parts yourself and putting it together yourself (or getting somebody else to do it for you). Works out a lot cheaper, and your computer isn't stuffed full of undesirable crap. But the latter choice can be pretty stressful, so... disregard the above if you want.

Basically what everyone is trying to say is that you'd be better off getting an HP (OR E-MACHINES DOOOO EMACHINES) just because you'd get more out of your money. DELL = ...you know.

I like HPs, my dad has a laptop and this desktop are both HPs. My laptop that I'm going to get is going to be an HP. We have had Compaqs and Dells and other off brand computers. And I find HPs as the best.
Well duh I'm going to see if I can get a zd8000 series HP Laptop, and I want only the best. XD
If you want to check out the HP desktops and laptops then go to www.hp.com.

Go with HP, but whatever you do. Don't buy an off brand computer. My dad got one last year and it was some off brand laptop, a month or so back the Hard Drive died so he lost everything (and when we first got it the DVD player never really worked, sometimes it would just lock up when playing a movie, when you put in or pulled out something out of the USB ports the computer would restart).

I'm rather pleasantly surprised that everyone here seems to know how bad Dell really is. :) So many people don't realize that cheaper is not better at all, when it comes to computers. The more money you spend, the more likely it is to last longer.

And I do agree with the person who said building your own is the best option. But it's not the easiest thing to do if you don't know how to. It's best to start off by adding things like PCI cards, moving up to CD drives, and hard drives, and then getting into the more complete package. And it's not always possible, especially if you don't have enough free time to do it.

For example, I have a computer built (almost) from scratch (almost because I left the motherboard and processor in there, tearing out the rest of the guts). Basically what I did was create a "hybrid" of two older computers (this was about 4 or 5 years ago), using the best parts from each. Some of the parts were almost 5 years old at the time. Now they're pushing up to 10 years old. And it's still running. Perfectly. :)

HP easily. I'm not a big fan of Dell's

Lol, we've settled on a $700 HP, looks very nice, but I don't get all those little slots on it o.o

It'll be a few weeks till I get it

Meh I'm not a big fan of Dells, and I like the Media Center PCs even though they are bulky and expensive.

Unfortunately HP are starting to become the "bad guys"... But Dell is still much worse.

How much longer until Apple and (maybe) IBM are the only innovators left in the computer business?

    OMGWTFBBQ.

HP, the bad guys? You've GOT to be kidding me. >=o

Dells, as I understand it, will crap up on you after a while. A heap of people on PE2K just hated them because of the problems of Dell.

I have a HP handheld made from 10 years back (Almost normal keyboard on it. :p) and it's running great.
The Dell ones will probably screw up.

Before buying one check the specs. CPU, Harddisk, etc.

I have none My CPU is E Machines which is really good and my monitor is a flat screen Liquid Video!
