God I can't believe it's been a decade already O:

I remember coming home from school (it happened in the afternoon my time), and turning on the TV, like I always did. But instead of my usual cartoons the news stayed on. At that point the buildings had already been hit, but my jaw was literally reaching the floor. I still remember how strange it felt when the skyscrapers collapsed.

It was like something out of a doomsday film. Truly awful.

Pfftt.....C'mon it was just a practical joke XD jk

Even though I haven't been living at my home in U.S for a long time, I am touched by how the people make a remembrance of such incident. I mean for an instance, the Iraqis and most of the Arabs are like oppressed by us and you don't see them over-reacting :/ IDK why, but for some reason ,their behavior and what they are undergoing makes me reconsider things about them...

It's one of my few memories from preschool. It makes me sick to my stomach when I remember and watch the clips. My dad was in New York the day before, and I'm thankful he flew home the day earlier. I give my thanks to all those who tried to fight against the terrorists.

I remember that day. I was helping my parents at my sister's 2nd birthday party and my mom called my dad inside the house to watch the news. I came in a while later, after the second plane hit.

I don't remember 9/11 at all. I was only 3 years old when It happened. I don't think anyone was watching the tv while 9/11 was happening, as I live in the uk.

Everyone everywhere was watching it, news spread fast.

I was pretty scared yesterday because I thought there would be another attack. But what would they attack? The statue of liberty? I was only 1 and a half back then and I don't remember much of anything. Rest in peace fellow souls. Thanks to the people who stopped the plane from crashing into the White House.

9/11 is one of the most overrated days ever. It is blown WAY out of proportion. It only matters because it was "precious US lives." The US needs to gtfo itself and realize that it's better to leave it in the past, rather than allowing our tragedy to live in our footsteps. We can never leave behind our suffering if we choose to remember it every year. This day just needs to be dropped. It almost seems as if we are celebrating our misfortune. smh.

I agree with you... a little. I do agree that we should not live in the past, however you must also remember that civilians where attacked. 3,000 Innocent people died that day. It doesn't matter who was behind it, it only matters that civilians were murdered. It was a very sad day not only in American history, but the world history. I know that thousands of people have been killed at once before, but those are usually by natural disasters. This was a man made disaster, an attak on human kind, by humans.

The reason it was so big this year was because it was the 10 year anniversary.I don't think it will be a major thing again. I do like they turned 9/11 into a national holiday called Patriot Day.

Death isn't something you just forget so easily. If your family member or friend was murdered by someone, you wouldn't 'forget' about the anniversary of their death. Ever. Not after 10 years, not after 20 years, not after 50 years, not until the day you yourself die. You can't just leave death in the past as if the loss of a human life means nothing. People who had family in those towers? They will never leave their suffering behind. Nothing about this is a 'celebration'. There are no parties. It's a memorial, respecting the people that lost their lives.

I understand if some people believe that other tragedies should be remembered every year just like 9/11, but that's another argument entirely. That's the argument that other tragedies should be memorialized more strongly, not that 9/11 should be ignored. Your lack of respect for the loss of human life is appalling. You're lucky that you've never had to experience tragedy like that.

No, that's not the only reason it matters. Along with what quizel (EDIT: and now Toujours) above me said, there are some other reasons. For one, there are those like me who don't remember 9/11 at all, so we are taught about it. You also should never forget. Not only would it be like forgetting that all of the civilians and the people trying to help them, like firefighters, ever existed or the heroic acts performed that day or how people sacrificed their lives for others, etc., but also because if you forget the past, it's bound to be repeated.

Now, there's plenty more that could be said, but rather than it leading to flaming or something, and because someone whom actually remembers this day would be better suited to say it, and because I'm also not thinking straight right now so I'm losing all of my thoughts.

Anyways, I was only three at the time so I can't remember anything of this day, but I have seen video of it and learned a bit about it. The most I can say was that is was a sad day, and probably terrifying to those that remember that day or were in New York City when it happened.

... I guess that's all I really have to say.

Maybe because you weren't BORN yet?

Derk, or Twilight Sky, is actually 18 years old. Chill it.

This is incredibly disrespectful. I didn't lose anyone on 9/11, nor did I even understand the magnitude of it ten years ago, but that doesn't mean I'm going to run around and say things like this. Ever. Like Toujours said, we're not celebrating anything. Do you see everyone heading out to eat dinner and have parties and such on 9/11? We remember. We honor. It is a memorial day, not a day for celebration. If you think it's a day to celebrate a tragedy, you've got it all wrong. You imply here that no memorial day, or any day that involved loss of lives, is to be honored or remembered. What is forgotten may be repeated, because we would have no recollection of it happening.

I'd like to repost something an IRL friend put on Facebook yesterday evening ... Beware, it's long. REALLY long.
