Okay, so I was thinking, the main series hasn't very much changed that much since the first games, I mean there are better graphics, but there not much change from how the old games work, I mean, it's still very 2D, you pretty much only walk in four different directions. Do you think it would be interesting to see a big leap in the next generation. Now, I can't really be specific, I'm not very creative to be honest. I think it would be very easy for the 3DS to handle Pokémon going into the 3D dimension, as in a full RPG, you could say like XD or Colosseum, but yeah, retaining the main series feel.

What are your thoughts? Do you like the series as it is, or would you like a big leap or change?

BW was a decent attempt at trying to chase after modern RPG design (Greatly expanding the cast of main characters and giving them better characterisation, combining more plot threads together and increasing amount of story events and cutscenes) but there's always room for improvment.

The 3DS is pretty much the turning point where creating fully 3D RPGs becomes not only possible, but preferable to using animated sprites, so I would not be surprised at all to see Game Freak do this.

Of course, that's only one part of what they can do to bring the series up to scratch. Changing up the Pokémon training and battle system - the main part of the game is a lot more important - although they took some baby steps to improve the gameplay in BW by making the Experience formula favour lower levelled Pokémon and introducing NPCs that restore the player's team to full health (Not how I would've tackled the problem of trudging back to the Pokémon Centers, but okay).

I like the 3D environments in generation 5 and (especially after going back and playing the old games) think it's a huge step forward, and the same goes for the animated sprites (perhaps more so).

I would really like to see the back sprites less pixely (or just pull the camera back) though.

I think it would be a little unrealistic, but I would really like to see some kind of choice system introduced to the games, like that of other modern RPGs, like fallout or Oblivion (Albeit on a much smaller scale). Even maybe give the character the chance to break from the tired and true formula of battling through to gym's and becoming the league champion and such. Lol I'm not sure what and alternative would be, I'm just tossing out an idea.

Really though, I think Pokémon is great the way it is, and I don't think the formula could really get old for me.

It seemed to me like B/W were made to be fantastic games in themselves in order to make up for the horrendous 5th gen Pokemon. It seemed to pay off though, the games did outsell D/P their first days!

Aside from the attempts at 3-D, I don't believe B/W is a shining example of any big change as far as the games, and many of the smaller changes (screwed up Exp system, messed up menu system, worse looking characters) are signs the series is actually going backward.

Colosseum/XD were actually a sign of where I would like to see Pokemon headed... less an emphasis on Gym battles and a greenhorn trying to improve their skills and make their name known, and more toward a plot focused on the battle against nefarious forces. And unlike the pixelated mess that was B/W, the 3DS should be able to provide actual 3-D models (like in Colo/XD) on a handheld system.

Oh yes, and I'd like the protagonist to actually, you know, display some semblance of a personality (and be able to change their clothes as well).

It would seem that improved graphics is inevitable for every generation.

Alternatives are a good thing, like when the guy at Nugget Bridge asked if you wanted to Team Rocket I would have loved to have said yes. But is something like this actually plausible?

I think in the story telling they took a step forward with N and the Tao Dragons. So if they could expand on that, on continue with story telling instead of "Hey there is a bad guy team! We can't let them get away with that!"

The character themselves just seems "there". The player never really says anything expect when it prompts you with simple replies. It would be nice if you could be prompted with more replies and a be more then yes or no questions that would play a role on how the story goes forward. Kind of like your actions effect how the game is played.

Along with the Player, giving more NPC some colorful personalities would be nice.
