Chapter 1: A Rather Bad Start
~*~*~*~
Run, run, your time has come.
Strength, bravery, kindness.
All to come, all to pass.
Run, for your time has come.
"What?! You can't leave now! Not today!" Vitesie exclaimed, wild blue eyes wide.
"Please don't go! This is the most important day of my life!"
Devra zipped up her duffel bag, then brushed out her long, cascading brown hair. She remained silent, keeping her gaze from Vitesie.
"Vitesie, I'm sorry. There's no way I can miss this oppurtunity. I finally have my chance to help support mom and our soon-to-be-born baby sister. This job will help me along on my career as well. If I don't leave today, the position will be filled." Devra said in her soft, calm voice, finally bringing her mild blue gaze upon Vitesie's wild one.
"Each person has a speacial place to be, sis. You are now finally beginning your own adventure, as I must begin mine as well. Professor Vine will lead me on mine. As his new assistant, I can finally sharpen my skills. You, on the other hand, are still quite young. There's still a lot of life to live out. By going to Professor Ginger today, you will have taken your first step. You wouldn't want to miss that step and fall down the wrong path, would you? Yes, I thought not. If I miss this first step...Vitesie, do you understand what I am trying to say?"
Vitesie brushed a strand of her sunblonde hair away from her eyes, then gave a nod, smiling.
"Yes, I understand fully. I wish you good luck."
The two sisters embraced, niether of them wanting to let go. It would be a while untill they saw eachother again. But what Vitesie didn't know, was that it would be much, much longer than she thought...
Vitesie stood at the doorway, smiling gently as her mother drove out of sight, taking Devra with her. They had said their goobyes, her mother handing her over a backpack she had packed herself. Any other normal kid about to start on their journey would have groaned in imbaressment. But not Vitesie. She knew Devra had packed it as well, and that ment healing potions. She knew her mother and sister would only pack the things she would need most.
Going back into the room she had shared with Devra, Vitesie changed out of her night clothes into a pair of skiny blue jeans and a blue tank top. Vitesie put on her belt as well, a light blue in color. It would be perfect for when she got her PokeBalls. Slipping on her shoes, Vitesie took one last look around the shared bedroom. One day, she would return, along with Devra, and they would share this bedroom once again, reunited as a loving family. Slinging the light purple pack over her shoulder, Vitesie was on her way.
It was a glorious morning, one that made Vitesie smile despite the sorrow she felt inside. The air was fresh, a breeze mingled with the scent of wild flowers, flowing about her gently. It was rather early, the sun half-arisen from behind the distant hills, spilling magical colors upon the valley. Since she would be getting to Prof. Vine's place early enough as it is, Vitesie decided to take the route to his place through the forest. Why not? It was such a beautiful morning.
A new horizon, a new adventure. Vitesie thought with a smile, recalling what Devra said often when Vitesie had been nervous about becoming a trainer. That's when she heard it, a distressed cry cutting through the peaceful atmosphere. Vitesie froze to the spot, looking around wildly. What in stars name was that?!
It came again, followed by intense laughter. That's when a thought struck her. Could that possibly be Devin...throwing rocks at another poor Pokemon again? Anger began to swell up inside her, and Vitesie changed direction, darting into the woods and toward the sound. If it was him, Vitesie was going to give him a hard lesson. She was tired of his foolish acts.
Vitesie forced herself to calm down, and slowed herself as she came to a clearning, darting behind a tree. Anger wasn't the answer, and it never got you anywhere. She would still give him a hard lesson that included her fist, but not out of anger. That wasn't her style. Peeking around the tree, she saw that her guess was accuratley correct. But then again, she wished she hadn't looked.
At the other side of the clearing stood Devin, his back to her. Tied to a tree before him was an Eevee, badly scored and nicked by the sharp rocks Devin kept on throwing at it. It was shivering, eyes clentched shut. Instantly Vitesie's heart went out to the poor creature. Swiftly, but silently, Vitesie snuck up behind Devin. Just as his hand came back to deliver a deadly thow of another rock, Vitesie grasped that arm to stop him. Devin pulled from her grasp and spun around, a sparkle of surprise in his brown eyes. But that surprise instantly turned to anger as he realized who it was.
"Vitesie! You little snob! Go away!" he snarled, hands clentching into tight fists. As an answer, Vitesie moved before the Eevee, blocking it from Devin. He turned to watch her, face turning red with anger.
"Why must you always step in the way?" a breeze came to ruffle his poorly spiked red hair, making his brown T-shirt flap. That breeze seemed to awaken a brave side of Vitesie.
"What you are doing is wrong, Devin! It's not right to torture Pokemon." she said, trying to be calm, even though her courage was building up with each second. In that next instant, she whished she hadn't acted so brave. The red from Devin's face faded away, a grin spreading across his face.
"Yes, you are quite right..." he took a whistle from his pocket, and blew it. Vitesie instantly went pale.
"W, what are you doing?" she said, nervous now.
"You'll see," was his cool answer, turning toward the left side of the forest. Vitesie heard the faint noise of pounding, hurried footfalls. This wasn't good. She had to act now, before Devin could do anything to her, or anything more to the Eevee. She quickly turned around, kneeling beside the tree. That is when she noticed the Eevee was white. Beautifuly so. It opened icy blue eyes, at which began to sparkle as Vitesie began to untie the rope. It wasn't to hard, but it was strong enough to hold a little Eevee in a tight constrict. She gently scooped the injured Eevee in her arms, then heard shouts behind her. Vitesie got to her feet and turned around, seeing Devin's fellow gangsters flooding around him. Devin turned and noticed the Eevee in her arms. Without any more hesitation, Vitesie turned and ran for it.
"Get her!" Devin shouted, and he and his fellows raced after her. All in all, Vitesie had five dangerous people on her heels. But Vitesie was quite fit, having often run track with Devra. There was no way they would be able to catch up with her now, unless they had a Rapidash. But then they began to chuck sharp rocks at her as they ran, desperate to make her fall. Vitesie felt many sharp stings as the rocks hit their target, but that didn't stop Vitesie.
The white Eevee in her arms looked up at her, eyes sparkling. Vitesie was filled with new hope, and ran faster, desperate to get the Eevee and herself to safety. Vitesie darted out of the trees, and having been running uphill, she came upon the spot she came to visit often for peace. It was a grassy cliff, and when you sat on the edge, you had a majestic view of a sparkling waterfall. The cliff wasn't too high up, maybe as high as a two story house. A lake lay beautifuly at the bottom of the cliff, sparkling purely. But the usual peace was shattered as angry and excited shouts from the boys followed her, tracking her down. But Vitesie kept running, right for the cliff. She had done this many times, the water deep enough to dive in with plenty of depth to spare.
"Hold your breath little one, okay?" she said softly to the Eevee, and jumped off the edge of the cliff. She gently clutched the Eevee to her chest protectingly, making her body straight, feet first, and held her own breath. She plunged in easily, slipping rather deeply into the water. Getting over the shock, Vitesie felt the bottom of the small lake, and pushed her feet against the bottom, propeling herself upward. She brought the Eevee's head up first, then her own. They both caught thier breath, then Vitesie quickly swam toward to waterfall. She fought against the tide that eventualy flowed into a swift river, and came to the edge of the water. The mist from the waterfall covered both her and the Eevee, and Vitesie stood up on a slick rock, looking back toward the cliff. She saw the dark outlines of the boys, but couldn't hear them over the roar of the waterfall. Surely they couldn't see her. Clutching the shivering Eevee against her, Vitesie walked in behind the water, welcoming the hidden cave with relief.
