4th Gen A guide to chaining

Not open for further replies.
I know, but I have had experience to where when I encounter the Pokemon their the chain breaks =\... I don't know what causes them to break sometimes, like one time I went to a shiny patch, encountered shiny bronzor and when I went into the patch, well... Bronzor disappeared so I knew that this was going to be the end of my chain, but I don't see why it broke...

I'm going to revise my guide shortly...

Well, anyway, it is a good guide if you wrote it by yourself;) (or did you copy it from somewhere else?...xd).
Ayhow, it will help some newbies.

I added a new Section... I'm coming up with Pokemon/Moves you should NEVER bring along while chaining... Since due to resent experience... I lost a shiny because of my stupidity in Kirlia knowing Teleport...

>_< that's 3 shinies I've missed out on and I'm not happy... I don't want others to make my same mistake...

That's a very nice guide you've added and I've been trying chaining because of it. Also, did you get my PM?

A good pkmn to bring when chaining is a high level pkmn with quik attack or tackle, since they have lots of PP.

R.A.M., you have got to respond to your PMs a little quicker when you're online. O.O

Anyways, would it be possible to chain a Shiny Sunkurn? The patch is so small and my chain always breaks after 4-5 Sunkurns...

Why not also make a section for good moves to bring, like False Swipe, its beneficial.

Done adding that to the Guide, I might add more things if I can come up with them.

I rarely respond my PMs when I'm using my Wii for typing.

A pokemon that never fails(to me) when chaining:

Gallade(at high level)
~Sing
~Mean Look
~False Swipe
~Thuder Wave

I know a Gallade can learn Hypnosis by keeping it a Kirlia, but how can it learn sing?

Sorry, my mistake, I use 2 different Gallades:

1st: Sing, Thunder Wave, False Swipe and Psychic(since it has low Sp.Atk)

2nd: Hypnosis, Thunder Wave, False Swipe and Mean Look.

Answering your question, after Puryfing Ralts in XD.

Ok found one more move to the "not to bring list"

Destiny Bond, obviously who would bring that, who knows, shiny could kill you first.

what pokeapp no. 20

the only one i can think of that s anything simmialr to what you described is the one you get for seeing thre last 12 pokemon you caught...

I know you can slip up while picking moves... but I doubt anyone who is using a Pokemon to chain would have it knowing Destiny Bond... >.> I guess I'll add it, but I don't see anyone using Destiny Bond on their Chaining Pokemon.

Well its always there if you want to add anything. T.T But, yeah...

Are Shiny Pokemon special in any way?
No, they are just really rare and many will do ANYTHING to get a shiny. I've heard in the past (Gold Silver and Crystal) they were more powerful, I can't exactly prove or disprove that, because I heard only the Gyarados that was predetermined to be shiny was more powerful because it had preset values.

I thought shinies in G/S/C were weaker. They used to have lower IV points. (IV points determined if pkmn was male, female or shiny). Luckily, it's not so in the newer games.

From what I've heard they had better than average IV's or something like that in GSC. I don't see why they'd be weaker unless you didn't train them up.

could someone confirm if after midnight the chain of a swarm pokemon will end? I'm pretty sure that is what happened with my snubull chain (it was at 84)

although it may have jsut been that the patch was too close or i was unlucky i dont remember cus i was so tired

EDIT: GSC shinies did have better than average IVs

EDIT: lol I had a good chain the other day and it ended because I must have pressed the top of the right button on the D-pad because I intended to move right to avoid a patch that wasn't even the right type of shake but I moved up instead... was really angry cus those 44 kricketots took forever to chain

Nope it goes on till you break it. I was chaining absol it struck 12, and I was about to give up..but I noticed it kept going. I ended up getting a shiny :3 It only breaks if you break it.

I thought Serebii.net or some other site said so, shiny has lowest IV and male pokemon has highest IV. Because the IV determined if the pokemon was male, female or shiny

No, it was believed that Shinys had higher IVs until the 3rd generation came out. And no IVs don't determine whenever gender or shiny.
