They did in the G/S/C. And I think you could max out ALL you stats with EV points in the old games. The pokemon games are different depending on year and console. Nowadays, IV (or DV) is very different. Its 31 IV instead of 15 isn't it? And it doesn't affect gender any more. Shinies are even rarer in the new games.
 
I don't remember Shinies being too much more powerful, unless we're talking about the Egg from Crystal, if you get a Baby and it isn't shiny from the egg that the Daycare gives you it's IV's are terrible.
 
Excellent guide! I was wondering how to do this and you just answered all of my questions. Time to go searching for shinies!
 
I'm really happy that people like my guide, I wasn't really happy with it when I first went through taking all my personal experiences and putting them into a guide to help others... I think some of the hardest Pokemon to chain are Farfetch'd oddly... GOD... he's so hard to chain and he's a Swarm Pokemon... then again I could just be saying that since my past experience by staying up till 2:00 am after hearing it was my swarm around 12... just to show nothing for my efforts... I've also had the hardest time chaining Slowpoke...
 
Well, I have a question i hope you could answer...
It was my first time chaining and i got my bidoof chain to 44 before it broke because of a stupid blunder on my part. When do shiny patches usually begin to appear? Is it random, or do your chances get better as you get higher. I just asked this becuse in a thread i saw a kid got a bidoof in a 16 lengh chain, and i went to 44, and i pretty sure i didn't see a shiny space(Do they look similar to the flashing gold ones btw?) Thx for answering in advance
 
From my own experience, I usually go up to 40 and reset the radar a few times, a Shiny Patch usually comes up. All the shiny Patches I have seen have 4 sparkles that flash a few times, it's very noticeable and different compared to other patches.
 
Is there a trick to remember where you've already been? I always forget this. I use my rotom for chaining and I already caught one radar-only, a sentret. (I began just today and I'm only playing about 30 minits)Oh and another question: If your chain breaks, is your chaining lost then? Or can you just start over and still run the same chance of getting shiny's and radar-only?

You have to remember what patches to not step in, and if your chain breaks, you must start a new one.
 
Thx, im gonna try another bidoof chain and hopefully it will turn out.
Also this is a very good guide, very understandable, and easy to relate to. I have tried this before, but could never understand what people where talking about. Again this is a very nice guide, thx for taking the time to make it
 
I get most of this, except one bit, Ive tryed chaining, and i had a chain going ( it was my must time at it and i was on 7 starly's) then the poke radar battery went, So i walked around and it started working but it broke my chain?
How do i stop the battery going/recharge it Without breaking the chain?
 
You need to stay in range of the patches, make sure you don't leave all the patches off screen, I think you're good until you scroll over too far... I'm not really sure how far you can go away from the patch you're chaining at, but I've been having really bad luck lately with the Pokeradar... even though I did catch a Shiny today already I'm having terrible luck chaining ANYTHING... I bet I could go chain Starly and have trouble doing so...

Edit:Though can I really complain? as of this Post I have 20 shinies!
 
This about encountering the same pokemon several times in a row. In the GBA games, does spinning around in one single square affect this? Do you have greater chance of encountering the same pokemon by doing so? It sometimes works for me, at least in FR/LG.
 
Just to clarify there is no guarantee that your chain will continue...

The pokeradar covers a patch where the farthest away possible shaking grass piece is 4 up/down and 4 left/right... and up until right now I have never broken on a streak on these 4x4 patches... damn that starly that broke my caterpie streak today...(was at 39 :'()

um... no, spinning around in circles in the older games did not affect what type of pokemon would appear
 
I think the radar has to do with keeping at least 1 patch on screen as you walk around, I usually pick a line where I can walk in 5 patches 10 times to equal 50 and reset if I can.

Edit: I started chaining Starly... so far so good at 30... darn... broke at 35... CURSE YOU SHINX!!!!

you must keep one patch on screen or it ends the streak... I already know that...

I always charge it perfectly as to not waste any repel...

as I was saying before the farthest patch away that can shake is 4 + 4 steps away... and even that isnt a guarantee...

if you use the radar and four squares in each direction from the character you are guaranteed to get four patches to shake...

Where red is you...

anything colored is the radar's possible range (colored squares are the only possible places the grass can shake, there is nothign farther than that)

the blue squares are the most likely squares to continue your streak in... the yellow ones are particularly good also... but they DO NOT guarantee that your streak continues...

EDIT: also if the patch is as big as the colored area in my picture and you are standing in the middle you will always see four patches shake

I've usually found 4 patches away to work, the ones you're saying usually break my chains >.>... I've gone off what I've been doing since I started Chaining, I've caught 18 Shinies using the Radar, so I'm just going to keep doing what I am.

I just wish I could regain my skill I seem to have lost it, I can't chain past 35 anymore =( ever since I lost that Shiny Farfetch'd...
 
rofl I've been having bad luck too ever since I caught 10 shinies in 4 days (But i've got 20 shinies so far with the radar so it shouldn't be too hard to get more)
 
One question, about when do shinies start to appear in the chain...
Also, when i get to about 40, if that is the desired number, should i keep going, or keep resseting till i see a shiny space. Thx in advance
