4th Gen A guide to chaining

Reset the radar until you see a shiny patch. I usually begin to go around reseting like mad till I get a shiny patch, and if I'm lucky I can reset after getting one shiny and find another shiny patch... but I've been having bad radar luck today...

is it really necessary to chain 40 before you start reseting the pokeradar each time for shiny patches, cant you do then same but after the first few tries in the chaining process?

Yes, but the higher the chain the more likely to get a Shiny Patch, I know many chains where I didn't get a shiny at 40, but then again I was acting a little impatient...

Edit:I'm trying my luck in a bigger patch, I was trying to chain on that route next to the cave that connects to Oreburgh. I feel a bigger patch of grass is the Answer. (Route 202)

O.k. then, what is a good number of pokemon chained to stop and start ressetin a lot, also about how many resets does this require?

Someone told me, that if you constantly catch the chains, your more likely to run into a shiny patch earlier like around 20 at least. Have you experience that?

I don't think that's true, I caught over 20 Ralts trying to get the right Synchronizer, and I didn't get any shiny patches and by the time I was done I had 30 something chained till it broke.

I get to about thirty alot, is that a good time?

nah around high fourties low fifties is where most people get their shinies, although around 30 can be lucky and you can get one sometimes.

I just about always find a shiny patch while reseting on 40, I said in the guide as the first suggestion, When I'm really luck I get a shiny on 40 and another on 41 when I reset.

Ok, cool beans, i gues im having a bad day, i got to 44 of my first try, and now i havn't broken 30...
One last question, in your guide what are the specific places tht usually end your chain?
Is it just all the edges, corners, and right behind you? Or are there other spots?

What I mean by those places, it's just generally you don't see the patch behind you shake, and you'll step back and you will more than likely lose your chain... those other places are usually safe, but I've had much experience with the chain breaking when I go there most of the time... usually the bigger the patch you're chaining in the better.

I hate it when theres a patch in front of you that you cant see, cause the character blocks it, and when i walk up once, i run into a pokemon, without suspecting it, and 50/50 i break the chain...

I'm still having extremely bad luck chaining O_O I'm now dubbing it the Farfetch'd curse... I mean a lot of my good patches break the chain I don't get it... I mean I realize I have 20.5 shinies (I consider finding that Farfech'd patch and that Doduo patch that I couldn't get to shinies... I think there was also a Hoppip patch...) I've just been having really bad lucky chaining latley. I realize I got a Shiny Gastly yesterday, but I can't seem to get up past 35 (that Gastly came in on 18 and it broke my chain.)

Edit:I started a chain last night, I've got it up to 60 and I've caught 3 Shiny Starly's so far! I think the curse is over! =D

you of little faith, you sound like your the lucky one.:) Thats pretty damn good.

My chain is in the 90's now =D I'm shooting for 100 or more and I have captured 5 Shiny Starly's... I'm not really looking for more Starly's but I'll catch the shiny's that pop up XD.

im glad you ended your drought... I ended mine too just a minute ago with a shiny pachirisu

edit: now I think I'll go for oddish or kricketot or caterpie... idk

Good luck with Oddish, I chained up to 40 and then all of a sudden when I walked down 6 steps the second time I was out of range and lost the chain =(.

As for my Starly's, 4 were Adamant, 1 was Jolly, and one was Bashful.

what # did you get up to with starly? I got my shiny starly at 3, and my chain ended at 7 lol

My chain ended at 101, my longest chain ever so far.

101! geez, what are you? 5 Starlys'??? im thinking sooner or later in the future games, shinies are going to be more of an option for people to decide for the alternate color, there not going to be valuable anymore.
