4th Gen A guide to chaining

I would like to try this, but where do I find the pokemon radar?

how do you ppl get chains of over 50??? ive been trying for 3 days and the longest chain ive ever had is 8?? its really startng to annoy me :(

follow the directions on the first post and keep trying... once you are pretty good an average chain is 20-30...

btw I'm at 40 with psyduck cus I felt like going for him... I'll edit when I get it I guess (or if i screw up xD)

If you have longer chains that doesn't improve your chance for a shiny. IF you make 20 chains of 5 each you have the same chance as making one chain of 100. No one has proven that longer chains bring more luck. Another question is this: What sense does it have that there is a blue shellos and a pink?

im pretty sure longer chains do have more of an affect... although nobody has proved it has doesnt mean it doesnt... and that nobody has proved it doesnt doesnt mean it does

I've caught 21 shinies in about 60 hrs of chaining... (all except like 4 on long chains)

while I spent about 90 hours of soft resetting, 400 hours of wild pokemon encounters, 50 hours of hatching only yielding 3 from SRing, and 7 wild shinies

East and West shellos

edit: make that 22 pokeradar shinies... just got my psyduck, maybe I'll get more

Hey, I Need Some Help.
I had A Chain going, And I was following this guide, going places that you reccomended to go and the chain broke at 12, Next I tryed chaining With the pretty much same much method but risking going into the places you suggested not to go and it went to 15. But still these chains are pretty low and they always break, Why is this?

Good luck with Oddish, I chained up to 40 and then all of a sudden when I walked down 6 steps the second time I was out of range and lost the chain =(.

As for my Starly's, 4 were Adamant, 1 was Jolly, and one was Bashful.

Ill trade you a shiny golem for one of the adamant starlys, i really need one

unluckiness...

you won't get a shiny by doing 2 chains and giving up... unless you are ridiculously lucky...

often it takes me 10-15 separate chains to get to a decent number...

my advice: don't give up, keept trying... remember not four steps... but four squares (4 right is better than 2 right 2 down(sqrt (2^2 + 2^2) = 2.82 squares) , or even 3 right 2 down (sqrt (3^2 + 2^2) = 3.6055 squares))

ignore the math if its confusing... pythagorean stuff

well, it's not like the patch is going to be exactly 4 patches/steps away, those are the safest IMO, but as long as it's 4 from where you're standing when the radar goes off, it should be fine.

I was lucky when chaining Miltank, I only had to do one chain. XD

no it will not... but the synchronizing only works 50% of the time (sadly my synchronizing natu failed me today and I had to settle for the mild natured psyduck that I got... :()

and about the pokeradar affecting chances I am pretty positive that it does... we can use ShadowTails's streak as evidence

in order to encounter 6 shinies he would have had to have approximately 6*8192 encounters-> 49092

each continuation of the streak could yield up to 4 "encounters"
4*101 -> 404 (in an ideal world 404 would be the answer... I am not going to account for the most likely scenarios that 4 patches did not shake every time as it is not necessary)

for each max repels you get 5 charges of the radar, and in ideal situations 4 shakes per charge, yielding 20 encounters per max repel

for super repels it is 4 charges ideally yielding 16 encounters per repel

for repels it is 2 charges ideally yielding 8 encounters per repel

in order to reach 49092 encounter you would need 2434 max repels or 3043 super repels, or 6086 repels

having max of them (999 max repels, 999 super repels, 999 repels) would still leave 4372 encounters that aren't accounted for...

and I'm sure he used nowhere near that many repels...

the event is too statistically significant to be ignored...

pokeradar streak does affect the shiny chance

I got a question:So I'm using a newborn Modest Ralts with Sychronize so I can get a Modest Shiny Roselia, I first let it faint and let it in the lead, will being fainted affect the nature Sychronazing?

I'm not so sure Synchronize works with a Fainted Pokemon... I've never tried it... I don't think it would since the game automatically places your 2nd Pokemon as the first one in all conditions, try a repel with a fainted Pokemon in the front, make sure the 2nd is lower than the other levels.

I don't get the 2nd lvl lower part.

As in... for example

1st in party:Fainted Level 40 Magikarp 2nd in party Level 5 Bidoof. Repel would be in effect for the Bidoof now.

i know the synchronizer works for a fact... my adamant natu (lv. 17) would never survive krabbys and yet I have an adamant krabby

edit: finally got that kricketot... thank goodness he was starting to annoy me tha tI couldnt get him

ok why does this keep happening, ive been chaining for starlys, and everytime or so when i think i go into the same looking patch after a certain amount of time chaining, its ends up being a bidoof to break my chain, do you have a solution?

Uh... Keep trying? I can't think of anything, Shinx was always breaking my Starly chains...

thanks for the guide, that's really useful (off to get a shiny modest ralts with my modest syncronizing espeon.)

EDIT: you should have this sticked with everybody asking for info on chaining.

Hey, ShadowTails, just wanted to thank you for the guide, and was wondering, should I start out just doing Starlys? And, is there a certain limit to how many steps I can take from where I started the Pokeradar?
