on average, how many does it take to get a shiny?

You chained for a shiny Bune, I too am gonna do that.Do you have Wi-Fi cuz I like your shiny Nincadas, one jolly or adamant?

I'm not sure... I haven't really thought about seeing what the average reset length is... I know most of the time I can get one within 10 repels after chaining 40... But with Buneary I hadn't got any... I'm about to EV train something on Nidorans, I hope I can get a decent amount chained... Let Kirlia take care of the rest to 40.
 
I just caught a shiny starly on my way to chaining...

I was actually looking for a pokemon to kill my synchronizer so that I could EV train my cresselia...

EDIT: damn maybe I should EV train more often... I decided that bonsly were too hard to chain so I went and battled Kricketots for defense... and I got another shiny one xD

Things are looking up, I just caught 5 Shiny Smeargles! One was Jolly! =D
 
:D sweet ive tried to chain like 7 more times and they were all broken T_T

dang... and for a minute I thought I had as many pokeradar shinies as you... X_x

guess I gotta get back to chaining
 
I was chaining some Shinx last night doing the KO'd Static pokemon in the first slot trick. My chain broke at 30... I'm too impatient for this lol. But I'm hoping the next swarm will be Voltorb, I want that blue bastard!
 
I just caught my first shiny in 5 years thanks to this guide!

Keep a sharp look out for patches, and if you don't see 4 move, you more than likely will lose your chain, besides that it can also rely on luck because you're not always going to chain the same Pokemon when you go to the patch that looks like it should be good.
 
I've been trying to chain for 3 days now but i still can't do it. I've followed all the tips, and my highest chain is 23 :(

EDIT: Just tried again, made it to 18, then guess what? It broke. I really need help. I'm going in the right patches of grass and everything! Thanks.

I've been trying to chain Sentret for someone for a few days, the chain kept breaking, as I said you're not always going to get a good chain when you start chaining. I got lucky a few times, but majority of the time you'll have to start a new chain.

I also have the worst luck chaining Nidoran (Male or Female), and plenty other Pokemon. Though I must say I'm very skilled with the Pokeradar since all but 2 of my shinies have been caught with it.
 
Shiny nidoran(f) is actually the only shiny i have. I found it in the safari zone on leaf green. Good luck finding it! I've started a new chain now on bidoof, 3 so far.. lol. I'll post again once it breaks(which i know it will)

EDIT: Guess what? Broke at 14. I was being really careful too! =(

no matter how careful you are there are no 100% guaranteed spaces to continue a streak (that are currently known of, there may be some unknown strategy to guarantee continuing a streak but nobody knows it as of now)
