4th Gen A guide to chaining

Not open for further replies.
yes, I have got 2 shiny legendaries myself (rayquaza and latias through soft resetting)

I might update the pictures, I don't know if I can trust my guide being on route 201... seeing how every time I personally chain there it's a disaster.

"Wild Nidoran(m) Appeared!" *Chain Breaks* "Wild Nidoran(m) Appeared" o_0

Anyways, I'll try making new pictures for route 202 that should work better and be easier to work on if you're using the pictures as a reference.

202 is an excellent route to chain on, I also suggest rt. 230

after following your guide to the very last word, I have managed to chain up to around 20 shinx's (sometimes 18 sometimes 22) but everytime i break the chain with a starly or a kricketot!
Any tips for a new chainer? :]

no matter how careful you are there are no 100% guaranteed spaces to continue a streak (that are currently known of, there may be some unknown strategy to guarantee continuing a streak but nobody knows it as of now)

I think that can help you, it just takes a lot of practice, I'm currently sitting on a 60 chain of Spoink and I have only seen one Shiny so far, caught it and it's the nature I wanted (one of the natures I wanted) It just takes a lot of patience and practice, a keen eye too.

there is no other tip. Its basically on luck in my opinion. Whether you find a shiny on your 2nd or 78th. Or if you find your 20th starly and the 21st ends up as another Pokemon. Its all about luck

Help!!!!

I'm currently on a chain of 41 phanpys; what now? how do i know its a shiny patch?

I hope you got your shiny, unless you left your DS on this long, anyways, shiny patches usually have 4 or 3 what look like glimmering spots on the grass, I've seen it a lot of times and I still can't quite describe it, of course, when you're chaining the 1/8000 something chance apparently still works, I walked into a Shiny Chansey patch didn't even know it was shiny O_O.

The other day I was chaining skitty and my 9th was shiny, then the chain broke shortly after that. I chained again but up to 68 and didn't get another shiny. Bad luck D8

I also seem to be good at chaining snubbull, my highest is 81. Is snubbull considered easy to chain?

I find Pokeradar Pokemon easiest to chain, usually some other common stuff (like swarm Pokemon) are easy to chain, but I don't always get a Shiny, I wasn't even trying to get a Shiny Chansey I was just trying to raise up my Donphan a few levels (needs to be at least level 50 so I can use it to it's full potential i.e. Battle Tower/Moveset). I usually just reset the radar if I get high enough but I really wasn't expecting a Shiny Chansey at all.

fantastic guide. im gonna go try and catch my 1st shiny and hopefully, i'll be fortunate.
i have a question though, before i go play, 4 patches have to shake right? i heard somewhere that if its 3, u have to keep resetting it until 4 patches shake

That usually works out, most of the time if I only see three, I just assume the patch right above me shook.

interesting. well, im gonna go try and catch a shiny with all this info now. thanks again for a super guide!

EDIT: ALRIGHT!! i just got a shiny pichu!! ^_^ (1st shiny ever)
i got it on my 8th! and i was actually looking for Eevee!

This thread is actually starting to become a shiny discussion, rather than it being a guide itself. If you want to talk about shinies, I believe this thread is best to use.

Back on topic now!
Well, seeing how the majority of people want to take up chaining to increase their chances to find a Shiny, I can see how they get it mixed up. I don't mind people talking about their first Pokeradar shiny, I mean that's the general goal from this guide.

hey i just want to ask can you like chain legendaries???well what i mean is can you just stand in front of like.........regigigas and keep fighting it until hes shiny???sorry if you cant really understand this

Well no you can't 'chain' legendaries. You can save just before you reach a legendary, and then when you battle you can keep restarting the DS until it appears as a shiny. You have to be EXTREMELY lucky to get one though. Often it takes weeks/months for one to appear. My friend did it with Palkia once and it took 2 months for it to appear in shiny form after thousands of restarts. Unless your extremely desperate, I would just search for shiny legends here at the forum.

i tried to get a shiny articuno once.. but then after a few hours of resetting i was like.. wait.. i wonder if i could even tell the difference
articuno shiny's are like.. the same colors.
i tried on zapdos and moltres for a bit. moltres shiny looks rad

I added to the first post, I added a new NEVER and a new "good tip."

Anyways, if you don't feel like searching through the post, it's about Rare Candies and Eggs, which when you use them/it hatches the radar will reset afterwards. Which I can only think of the whole Egg thing if you find the shiny patch then your egg hatches.
