Chapter one: A new beginning:
It was still dark in Oldron town.
The sun would be coming up any minute now and everything lay quite and still. As soon as the sun came over the horizon, a Dodrio started crying loud into the air.
"Darn Dodrio, the same thing every morning. Can't he shut up for one morning?" Marek said to himself as he was awakened by the cry of the Dodrio.
"Well I better get up, it is my birthday after all, got to make it a good day."
Marek turned 10 this day and it was today that he would start his own pokemon journey.
"Wake up Growlithe, today is our great day." He said to his Growlithe.
He and growlithe had always been together.
Growlithe came out of an egg that the two Arcanines of his father had laid.
The egg had hatched the day Marek was born and the newly born Growlithe and Marek were instant best friends.
When they were younger they had a lot of adventures together in the surroundings of the little village where they lived.
At only the age of 5, Marek knew he wanted to become a pokemon trainer and also start with a Growlithe, just like his father.
His father was a great pokemon trainer who had much success in his days.
He could have been a part of the elite four of both the Kanto region as the Yotho region, the two regions where he performed best. But with his wife being pregnant of their first child, he declined the offer.
He had many, many pokemon but of all he still liked his Arcanine the most since it was his first pokemon to start with.
Now he is proud about the fact that his son would start the same way as him.
Since it was only 7 o'clock Marek started packing his stuff and putting on his clothes for his big journey.
"Ok backpack is set only needs a couple bottles of water and that is done.
Yes Growlithe I packed your food too it is already in there." He said after Growlithe let out a soft grunt.
"Laptop is also ready." He said to himself while packing another shoulder bag.
"I-pod is loaded and fully charged." He said putting the chain of his I-pod around his neck, leaving the ears hanging on his chest.
He was wearing blue jeans that he obviously had worn many times before, being all pail and some shreds at the bottom.
Under those jeans he wore a pair of running sneakers in which he felt the most comfortable.
Also was he wearing a sleeveless red T-shirt with a black leather vest that had a hood.
After putting on his clothes he combed his short brownish hair backwards so it would stand up.
Then he put on his very precious necklace that he got from his father.
It had a pokeball attached to it. The pokeball was the ball with which Growlithe was caught.
By now it was 8 o'clock and he figured his parents would be up so he went down to the kitchen to say goodbye to his family.
When he came down the stairs and walked into the kitchen his mom, dad and little sister were already sitting there.
A big banner was hanging above the kitchen table, which read happy birthday Marek.
"Happy birthday son." His dad said, while giving his son a hug.
"Happy birthday my little boy." Said his mom while squeezing him.
"Happy birthday big brother. His little 7-year-old sister said to him.
"Thanks guys." He said while receiving his gifts.
From his dad he got his pokedex. His mom gave him an extra external hard drive for his laptop.
"Just to make sure you have enough space to gather all your trainings on." She said.
"Wow thanks mom, thanks dad. This stuff is really going to be useful." He said while he put the pokedex in the pocket of his vest and the hard drive in the shoulder bag with his laptop.
"Hey Marek I got a present for you too." His little sister shouted.
"Oh really Sofia? And what did you get for me?" he asked while kneeling down in front of her.
"Close your eyes and I will give it to you."
Marek played the game and closed his eyes.
When he could open them again Sofia had put a bracelet around his wrist.
"Wow Sofia, it is beautiful thank you. I will cherish it."
"Ok then I am ready to get moving." He said while getting back up.
"Wait we have one more gift for you." His dad said while giving him a digital camera.
"So you can send us pictures too." His mom added.
"Thanks you all, thanks for everything."
"And what about the cake?" his little sister asked.
"Ok we will eat it first" Marek said unpatiently, eager to start his journey.
After they had finished the cake Marek stood up and gave his family a big hug.
He slowly turned around and walked to the backdoor, followed by his family.
"Grow growl" Growlithe barked.
"Yes you will be able to say goodbye to your mom and dad too." He said while walking in the garden and waiving to all the pokemon in the yard.
Growlithe went to the two big arcanines and rubbed against them.
After giving them a little while, Marek called out to his pokemon that it was time to go.
He took a picture of the pokemon in the garden, a picture of his family and one with all them together.
He put away his camera and went of towards the front yard.
There he said his final goodbye to his family and started walking.
Walking and looking at the shiny sun, at the bright sky where all kinds of bird pokemon flew, he looked at his Growlithe next to him.
"It is a great day to start our journey." He said to his Growlithe with a smile.
As he walked down the path, he enjoyed the sun in his face and the soft breeze that blew trough his brownish hair.
He had put on his I-pod to listen to some music and was humming to the beet.
His Growlithe was growling with him since he new the music too.
It was the music they trained on every time they had a little time for themselves.
After an hour or so they had spotted their first pokemon, a Rattata.
She was rolling in the grass playing with a big apple that was almost half of the size of the Rattata herself.
When she spotted Marek and Growlithe she jumped up and the purple hairs on her back stood up in anger, ready to battle.
"Ok, our first real battle Growlithe!" Marek shouted to his pokemon, while Growlithe jumped forward, ready to battle too.
"Ok, use tackle Growlithe" Marek said.
His Growlithe jumped forwards to tackle the little Rattata that kept standing brave, waiting for the dog pokemon to hit him.
At the last moment she tried to dodge the attack but was to slow.
She got hit pretty bad and was thrown high up in the air.
When she landed, she got back up on her feet just to get hit again by another tackle from Growlithe.
"Alright Growlithe way to go!" Marek shouted to his pokemon.
"Let's finish this. Flamethrower!"
Growlithe opened its mouth and shot out a big stream of fire towards the little rat pokemon that was just getting back up from the last tackle.
The Rattata looked up towards the big red ball of fire and was hit right in the face, blowing him far away, out of sight, into the forest.
"Alright Growlithe, nice battle boy" Marek said as he was stroking the head of his pokemon to tell him he did a good job.
They went on their way again after he had given Growlithe something to eat and drink so he could recover from the fight, not that he had gotten any damage from the Rattata.
While they were walking again, a bunch of Pidgeys flew over them towards a big tree not far from them.
As they approached the tree, he could see that the Pidgeys were eating apples from it.
While they kept coming closer the Pidgey had spotted them and flew off.
All but one. This one was sitting on a large rock enjoying the sunlight.
Marek and Growlithe slowly came closer and the Pidgey was still not moving.
"Hey Pidgey!" Marek shouted.
The Pidgey jumped up and flew into the air but didn't fly away.
"You want to battle?" he asked the bird pokemon.
He nodded and flew right at Growlithe, who did not have the time to dodge the attack and was hit on his back.
"Ok Growlithe, use flamethrower" Marek said.
Again he opened his mouth and shot out a stream of fire towards the Pidgey, but because he was up in the air, he could easily dodge the attack.
After dodging it, the Pidgey came down again to tackle Growlithe.
"Use it again when I say so Growlithe" Marek whispered.
"NOW!" Marek jelled when the Pidgey was almost in front of Growlithe.
He opened his mouth and again shot a stream of fire out, directly hitting Pidgey and causing serious damage.
The Pidgey fell down and was trying to get up when Growlithe came ramming into him with a tackle.
The Pidgey was lifted into the air and came down hard to the ground.
"This one is mine" Marek said as he threw a pokeball at the wounded Pidgey.
The red and white ball flew towards the Pidgey and hit it right on the head.
The ball shot out a red laser to the Pidgey, which turned bright red itself before being sucked into the pokeball.
It stirred and the spot where the red laser came out was flashing red.
Suddenly the light stopped and the pokeball lay still on the ground.
"YES!!" Marek shouted.
"My first catch. Thanks Growlithe, you have done a great job today."
After they had walked for another couple of hours Marek decided to call it a day.
It was only 4 pm but he wanted to give his Growlithe some rest after those two battles from that day and to get the chance to know his newly caught Pidgey.
He stopped at the side of a small forest and started unpacking his laptop.
Immediately he started typing in his diary about his adventures of today.
After he was finished with his story he called out his Pidgey so he could take a closer look at it.
"Pidgey" it called out when it was released from his ball and flew a couple circles above Marek before landing in front of him.
"Hello Pidgey, I'm Marek and this is my good friend Growlithe" he talked to the bird pokemon so he would be calm and peacefull about the new situation.
"Here I got you something to eat" he said and opened a can with pokemon food in it.
Pidgey first stared at the little can of food, then slowly coming closer, he started sniffing at the food.
Eventually it took a small piece and started eating it.
He loved the food and started to take many pieces at a rapid pace down his beak.
"Wow he has got a big appetite" Marek said.
"How about you Growlithe?"
Growlithe was laying in the sun enjoying the sunrays before it would become evening and eventually night. When Marek spoke to him he turned around and saw the pokemon food and barked loud.
"Ok I will take your food too" Marek said with a smile.
He gave Growlithe a bowl full of his pokemon food and a bowl of water from which Pidgey was already drinking.
He had done with eating and was fully charged it seemed.
Although he still had a couple of scrapes on his wings.
So Marek got a potion bottle out of his backpack because he knew that there wasn't a pokemoncenter in the area.
The scrapes healed and Pidgey was perfectly fit again.
Marek took out his digital camera and took a picture of the Pidgey and one of Pidgey and Growlithe together.
After finishing supper for himself he took his sleeping bag, rolled it out and lay upon it, looking up at the now dark sky, full of bright shiny stars.
He said goodnight to his Pidgey and called him back inside his pokeball.
Growlithe was rarely in his pokeball and so was he now.
He was lying next to Marek trying to get some sleep.
After a while Marek fell asleep too, happy about the adventure he had today.
