4th Gen A question.

Forgive a noob here, but I am totally clueless.
Having played Pokemon Red/Blue and Silver/Gold when they first came out I've decided to finally purchase a DS XL and Pokemon Diamond.

However I'm looking at how to catch certain Pokemon and have read up on Electivire (who looks incredibly sexy) and it seems to get him I need Fire Red inserted in the GBA slot of the DS. Having a DS XL I obviously have no GBA slot and was wondering if I could just use an old GBA with Fire Red to get him?

Hmmm... I'm not sure what you mean, but if you want an Electivire, you could always trade for one. But I don't think you can just use a GBA, though. Are you asking if you can get an Electivire or Elekid with the GBA? Because in Diamond, to get an Electivire, you need to trade an Electabuzz holding an Electirizer. Although, you could catch an Elekid/Electabuzz in FireRed, then transfer it over to Diamond via Pal Park.

What I've read is that I need an Elekid/Electabuzz with the Electirizer in Fire Red and trade it to Diamond. However, what I've read is that I need Fire Red in my DS slot, so I'm unsure if I can just do it on my GBA :D

Okay, I get what you're saying now.

I'm not sure if you can catch an Elekid/Electabuzz in FireRed, but the "cartridge in the GBA slot" thing is just the way to obtain Elekid/Electabuzz in Diamond. Get it? In other words, that's the only way to catch Elekid in Diamond. ^_^ Hope that helps!

BUT! You can still catch it in FireRed.

To catch Elekid, you must insert your FireRed Gamepak into your DS slot and walk around Valley Windworks.

To catch an Electabuzz, explore Power Plant in FireRed. You can then Pal Park it to Diamond.

However, you need a GBA slot for both methods. Looks like you are stuck, darn. :(

An alternative is to find Electabuzz on Route 222 in Platinum or on Route 10 in HGSS. Then, trade to Diamond.
