Many special energy cards say, Does not count as a besic energy card... What is the necessity of writing this?
Sm cards say, Does not count as a besic energy card when not in play, which means, when this energy card is in my deck it is a special energy card, but if i attach it to my pokemon, it comes in play.. and it becomes a basic energy card? :O
and if does not count as a besic energy card statement is important.. so, many special energy cards does not say "does not count as a besic energy card".. or any thing like that.. so does it mean that this is a special energy card but i can count it as a besic energy card... and use trainer cards and take all advantages of being a basic energy card..?.. if not then y "doesn't count as a besic energy card" written in many special energy cards? and y not written in others? wat is the coorrect way of playing?... what does "doesn count as a besic energy card wen not in play means? and with the trainer card " seer" or "fisher man" can i bring special energy cards in which its not written doesnt count as a besic energy card"?
sry for the wall of text but.. these questions have bothered me for years Tust me! Help is appricaited.. Thank u in advance

Examples and the sets they are from, please. This could be due to a fundamental change in the way the card wordings get printed that was done several years ago (if there was one). Like I said, though, I need examples.

The main reason why they have to distinguish between basic and special energy cards is because the rule of only being allowed to have up to 4 of any kind of card applies to special energy cards, but not basic ones. For example, you may have as many regular dark energy cards in your deck as you want, because they are basic energy; however, you can only have up to 4 special dark energy, which is why they say "does not count as a basic energy card".

Special energy cards cannot be searched with trainers and supporters like Roseanne's Research and Fisherman because on those trainer cards they specify that the energy must be basic. Fisherman says, "Search your discard pile for 4 basic energy cards, show them to your opponent, and put them into your hand." That means you cannot get any special energy cards into your hand with Fisherman, because the card specifically says basic energy.

As for a card that says "doesn't count as a basic energy card when not in play", that sounds like something an older card would say because I don't think there are any in the modified format that say that. If you can find a picture or link of that card, I could probably help you out with it better.

Hope this clears up some of your questions!
