    So some people might know that in the Japanese version of HG/SS Lt Surge offers you to trade a Japanese Pikachu for his American one. So what's he gonna give you in the English versions?
     
    I'll bet he'll call it a "Pokemon caught during the war". So I'm thinking either Japanese or German, a reference to World War II since it is the most well known war that America was a part of.
     
    I was thinking the same thing. It would be a let down just to get a Pikachu that is already native to your game.
     
    I think this time the Pikachu given will be Japanese. Pretty sure of the guess I'm making right now.

    This sounds the most correct.

    My guess is either ^ that or a Vietnamese Pikachu
     
    EpsilonE's Vietnamese Pikachu sounds more likely than crystal-heart's Japanese/German Pikachu.

    Lt. Surge is modeled after a Vietnam War era American soldier after all.

    I think it'll still be an American Pikachu or they'll have another gym leader to trade.
     
    Well, the thing is is that Lt. Surge is the "Lightning American"

    No way in hell (excuse my language) would he give you a Japanese Pikachu, It just wouldn't make sense. It makes sense in Japan though, if he gives you an American one though.

    Now my guess is that he will trade you his Raichu. It's weak, but is well known for being his Raichu.

    Also, has anybody ever notice how in the Anime he's like 11 feet tall, but the sprites show that he's about as tall as you! They should change that.

    One more thing, does anyone ever wish that they would finally say the name of the Unnamed Pokemon Nation...

    I mean, I know it's based off of Japan, but come on!! At least tell us the name!
     
    I reckon America'll get Japanese, and EU will either get American or Japanese.

    It'd be most likely we all get a Japanese one though.

    Not true, because there was a war between America and Japan after the bombing of Pearl Harbor in 1941. So, it still makes sense even if Lt. Surge were to trade you a Japanese Pikachu for an American Pikachu. However, the Vietnamese Pikachu is a possible idea for the game as well and either way I wouldn't mind receiving a foreign Pikachu through the game. =] Really good question though.

    I highly doubt the idea of him trading you his Raichu though. Usually trades are just translated differently from the Japanese copy and the other copies of the game, but there hasn't been a time when they would change what a character trades you in the game depending on the game's respective region.
     
    Yes, technically a Raichu has higher game value than a Pikachu, so they would not switch everything up because of it.
     
    A Jap. Pikachu would be awesome. =D
     
    Well, they basicly made most english things in the jap. DPPt into french (guy in Vilestone, Fantina), and... Well, the language guy in survival area or whatever traded a german Magikarp (I have no idea what nationality it had in Japan)... Just getting a japanese Pikachu sure would be cool, just as that.

    It's just like a month 'til we know, so we're just gonna wait and see!
     
    Let me rant for a while.

    Lt. Surge is known as in the games the "Lighting American". It doesn't matter what version he is in he is known as that.

    Lt. Surge is in Kanto. A region based off of the actual Kanto region in Japan.

    Lt. Surge is molded off of a war veteran. We don't know what war it could be WWI, WWII, or Vietnam War. Looking at how the technology doesn't seem to be advance as ours (removing Poke Balls and the Time Machine) seeing as there are no cars. I think that it is after WWII.

    So after looking through my knowledge banks I say he will give you a German or Japanese Pikachu that he caught "during a war".
     
    Does the game even have support for a Vietnamese Pikachu? They'll probably just make a Japanese Pikachu, as I don't think GameFreak spends too much time thinking up background stories for the characters. Seriously. They are not that deep.
