Able To Catch Other Starters

I'm on the fence, probably not though. I know if that was a possibility, I would never use any other Fire/Grass/ or water pokes. Not because I think the starters are better, but just because the option is there.
I would greatly support it if they were available AFTER the E4 though.
If we're talking HG&SS, then Kanto maybe? That'd work for me.

Hmmm...personally I find it more interesting if you have to find others to trade with to get them. Finding people to trade with online is fun, in my opinion at least. Having to put some effort in getting them also makes them more precious in my opinion.
And I also like how they're unique in the game that way. I can understand why people without Wi-Fi would like it to be able to get them in-game though. Although...Most routers offer the option to change the settings so that one can make it Wi-Fi compatible... The router my family and I use is like this. When I want to use Wi-Fi I just change WPA to WEP for some minutes). And there are several public places were Hotspots are accessable, even for free.
It needs effort but it isn't impossible (unless one lives in the middle of nowhere)
If you can't find reasonable trade offers just make them yourself. I managed to get what I wanted.

You're an idiot. You obviously don't know a damn thing about Pokemon if you think it's all about money. Tajiri set out to make a game about communication and player-player interaction, and he succeeded. It's not his fault that people buy every version for themself... You're supposed to get one and your friend/sibling/whatever gets the other. I honestly don't see how that makes anyone more money.

*sigh* I should have known better than to attempt rational discussion with Pokémon fans. I'd go through your arguments, but SilverSmeargleSplatter essentially said what I could, and your resulting to personal insults shows you're not worth my time discussing this with.

This response angers me. Yeah, the game does come with Wi-Fi, but not everyone is capable of using it. My parents wouldn't allow it and my router isn't compatible with DS features. And "get some friends"? What kind of answer is that? Some of us live in biased states that stick up their nose to even playing the game, and I'm in one of them. Either Pokemon's too old, bad because of religion, or people my age want a little something else rather than playing Pokemon games. I can't run outside and find friends. That brings this to an entirely different argument. A friend is much more than some random person that you just "find". A friendship takes much more than just a common factor.
If you can't get Wi-Fi, then don't trade. What's the big deal? Not everyone wants to go for a full 'Dex, and the ones that do should find a way to trade. I did. I managed to scrounge up a Blue version and am playing the game all the way in an attempt to get 151. And how do I get the Red version exlusives? I'm waiting an entire year just to meet up with someone that lives 4 hours away to get the rest. If people can't make it work, then I don't understand that.

Where do you get off saying that? No need in straight up saying, "Duuurrrr you're an idiot cause blah blah blah." You're not supposed to just get one. I must be bad cause I don't do what I'm "supposed" to do; I buy the predecessors and their revamp. If it's not all about the Benjamins, then please explain why this exists.
I gave reasons. I called him an idiot because people are so presumptive and slap labels on everything... I never said you're not supposed to get the revamps, but you most certainly are not supposed to get both versions. Tajiri, once again, set out to create a game about human interaction and communication and version exlusives/trading was the most ingenious way to go about doing so. If anyone gets more than one version of each generation for themself, then they obviously have no idea what Pokemon is truly about.

I'm not really a Pokemon fan. I've only ever played Blue version. I gave a rational, intelligent explanation as to why more than one starter in a single game was wrong, and you had to come out and say "It's about money". That pisses me off. The remakes are about money, as were the "they're incompatible" excuse they planned. But the series itself, and the version scheme certainly is not.

I'll trade as much as I damn well feel like it. I don't need Wi-Fi to trade. I need PokeBalls, my sister's DS, and a copy of a game in both of them and there we go. As far as the Dex goes, I never said everyone wants to complete it. Some people just want certain Pokemon. That's not a crime.

Call me crazy and illegal then. Tajiri also isn't the boss of me and can't tell me not to buy the counterpart games. As for the second bolded part, what in the world are you talking about? Where does that come from? I'm sorry that I enjoy the games enough to buy both versions, but seriously? I have no idea what Pokemon's about? I am so sorry that I don't have anyone to trade with around here and can't interact with others, but who cares? I don't really like people all that much, so why should I have to trade with them? The few people that even play around here are usually hackers and cheaters whose Pokemon I don't even want.

I'm not saying they're all about money, but when we start seeing things like Bibarel and Carnivine, one has to wonder.

Apparently your sister has a DS. If she has one, then she's probably playing Pokemon and I can assume you can trade with her. Do that.

What's wrong with Bibarel and Carnivine?

Nope, she doesn't play. She has a DS for other games, so it's back to me, myself, and I. I really don't see a problem with trading with yourself. It's how I store Pokemon I want to keep and use for Battle Frontier or just because they're too epic to lose.

What's wrong with Bibarel and Carnivine?

Obviously not everyone will have the same views on them, among other Pokemon, but they look ridiculous in my opinion. However, most people that disagree with my choices can probably find something else that fits their personal criteria.

They're not the most creative designs, but if you dislike them you must also dislike Raticate and Victreebel. They're basically the same thing.

It would be more convenient if we could catch the other starters... but that would take away the uniqueness (is that a word? XD) of the starter Pokemon. You can always trade to get the other starters.

I think that being able to catch the other starters would take a lot of the fun out of the game. :\ It would also take away that sort of special pride you get from a starter.. I mean, who wants to start with a common pokemon?

to be fair, the point originally was to only buy one version of the game, and then trade with your friends. there was a big emphasis on it.

I sort-of agree. I think that being able to catch the starters of that generation in-game is a bad idea. It was fine in Yellow because a) you had a different starter and b) it was based off the anime. In future games it would take the fun out of choosing the starter/trading for others and make the starters less special.

However, what I do think would be a good idea is being able to catch the old starters. Not all of them, just those that are appropriate. Like if there's a dense forest area, you should be able to catch a Treecko. Or in an Antarctic-like area, you can catch Piplup. They'd be rare and have high catch rates of course. I think it would be really fun.

I've always been confused with this mindset prevelant in so many fans. "Crap pokemon = Greedy executives wanting more money". Erm.... what? How on Earth is making crap pokemon going to make more money?

I, personally, do not see a point to making all of the starter Pokémon available in one game. Before the announcement of Heart Gold and Soul Silver I might have considered it due to how difficult it is to get the Johto starters, but now they are all going to be readily available. Making the starters common enough that they all appear in each game would detract from their novelty.

For the people without wifi access that want the first or third gen starters, buy Fire Red/Leaf Green and Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald. Pal Park is there for a reason. I managed to get all of the starters besides the Johto ones without trading with anyone and even the second gen starters are available if you have enough patience to play through Emerald three times or Colosseum.
