Like anyone has time for a job like Rep Admin. :\ (How many members with how many reps a day, anyone?)

Whether or not the Rep system is kept or forced to be shut because of some 10 year olds who can't handle criticism or being seen as under is fine with me. I did join early enough to see how and why the previous system was shut down. However, we are all human, and it is a golden happening that history will almost always repeat itself. There has been and will always be noobs to destroy civilized communities.

Also, can't it be elaborated on how "quality" is defined for posts? That may be a bit helpful to other people when using the rep system.
 
Thank you, Steve. This rep system problem has gotten totally out of control.
 
Spey, we can read. I have'nt received a -rep, and hope I wont, yet if the rep system was shut down, I wouldnt be complaining.

It would entail checking for PM's regarding spam rep + acting accordingly

Please don't insult me. You probably will, I registered in April and have had several abuse reps, which have been countered. Rukario will do it for you

I've only received 2 neg. reps, both of which have been unwarranted and deleted. I honestly couldn't care less about rep abuse. I think people who get a ton of bad rep are just making excuses for bad posts. I've made some really rude posts and some low-quality posts, but you don't see me whining about it, because I don't think there is a huge rep abuse problem.


Spey, what the hell are you talking about? Jessica didn't insult you. She stated that she could read. Also, that post don't make any sense. Can you post it in a legible way?

Wasnt meant as an insult. I try not to get into conflict, but I agree, I probably will at some stage.
 
I've been neg-repped twice for creating topics in one of the fanclubs I co-own..Which I think is unbelievable.

No, but neither does any individual deserve to be exempt from negative reputation should the situation truly warrant it. To presume such for oneself would be incredibly selfish.

I whole-heartedly agree with this.

Really, all reputation amounts to is a few bars next to one's post count as well as a pair of numbers that cannot be seen by anyone else. The only reason that this is even a real problem right now is because of specific users who cannot handle either being wrong or finding out that their opinion is not the only one in existence. Yes, there will be reputations that are truly spam, but such is life, and this also works for both sides of the spectrum, as proven by the positive reputation abuse characteristic of when the system first returned. If negative reputation is really that much of a problem, then disable it. It is honestly not that important.

hm. this doesn't make sense. If I (the public) don't like what someone says or does, can't I "estimate" (-rep) them for it? "reputation abuse" would be for someone that does something like say "I like Google better then Yahoo!" and the person -reps them. Wouldn't that be reputation abuse? not -repping someone for constantly complaining, or mini-modding, etc etc
proper rep should not be all about the "quality" of the post..

that should be warranted do -rep, as it is SPAM.

when the public doesn't like what someone says, couldn't they be allowed to -rep?
 
In my humble opinion, rep is something that can never be fully controlled. People will continue to rep in a negative way and people will continue to complain. While I don't have a problem with the rep system and personally don't really care if it stays or goes, rep system in PC society as a whole seems to be crumpling down. No one can ever be sure how words towards the public will effect their actions, but they can be sure that any actions will be halted if rep were to be removed.

It just disappoints me in a way. When we were first given the privledge to rep, we were warned of this situation. We had a responsibility and we didn't keep up with it. :/

Someone with a high power rep bad repped me for saving one of my pictures in jpeg... i'll admit jpeg isn't good quality but i was almost in -points for it! It was a bit unfair imo. they could just said 'Hey you should save your files as PNG or GIF in future :)' That was abusing rep -_-

This post is relevant because some people have been excessively complaining about rep when sometimes it is warranted. I'm not saying there isn't an abuse problem, it just is being taken advantage of.
 
For the record, I've been given negative reps for such trivial things as mentioning types of warships and linking to an article on a French Air Force squadron in the DCC. One moderator has given me negative rep in retaliation for me calling him out on his inability to type English properly. If those aren't abuses of the system, I don't know what they would be.

Some of us just make more attractive targets than others, I guess.

I have had way over 10 -reps and most are because people don't like me.
I have only ever complained once, and that was in my own post.
If people don't like the reps, then disable it. If you get a -rep, so what?

I think people are just complaining too much because they want a few bars on a forum. They don't prove anything.

No one really reps me because no one reads my posts but anyway...

ACTUALLY the rep system is EXACTLY for having a go at people you disagree with, or you think are annoying. I mean that's why it's fudging REPUTATION. If you want nice blocks of green stop being an ignorant arsemaster.

Though I do use the system for this, I am NOT against having disclosure against the username of the repper. It being anonymous is slightly cowardly, and if you can't say something to someone directly then don't say it at all.

see: someone just negged me there -- that's OK. they disagree with me, they neg me. I'd just like to let whoever that was know, that I said I wasn't against it, that I don't see why not. So you're right I didn't research it enough. That's why I am not lauding the idea, just that I don't have a problem with it.
