So, earlier I expanded my horizons by beginning to look at the Art Gallery.

I found myself facing an area of the rules that didn't seem immediately clear to me. I considered asking the local mod directly but... er... others who tried that didn't get responses. I felt discouraged and decided to post my question here instead.

    So here's the situation.
I'm a musical artist. The description of the Art Gallery says that it's for any type of art, which implies I should be able to post my work there. However, looking through the gallery further made me question that, as there is nothing but graphical art as far as the eye can see. The rules thread doesn't seem to address musical art and I /really/ abhor the thought of blatantly taking a risk of breaking the rules. To make the situation more confusing, there seems to be another thread where people can post "music / videos" they've created. Is that implying that I should /not/ post my art at the Art Gallery?

I make musical arrangements. (21 released compositions and more than twice that unreleased at current)

I would like to make an art gallery, as simply throwing my work into a very general entertainment thread for music/video honestly feels a bit... demeaning.

So basically the problem is that I feel like I should be able to, but am not sure and want some sort of confirmation.

    My question is...
Am I allowed to make a gallery in the art thread for my musical arrangements?

There's a thread in Culture and Media for people to post music in iirc, because there aren't enough musicians that are willing to share their work to warrant an individual thread for each.

There was a thread here in CQ&F about a month back that addressed the same problem. The general consensus was that a single thread in C&M would be sufficient until more interest was expressed in a separate "Music & Multimedia" forum. :/

That's pretty saddening. Though looking at the inactivity in said thread in C&M and noticing that it's dead as doornails even though it was just made recently, I can see what you mean by not enough interest.

They should really address it in the Art Gallery rules or specify in it's description though. ._.

If there aren't enough musicians, wouldn't that be a better incentive to have individual threads?

There are threads from last month on the front page in the main art gallery. We keep saying, oh not enough musicians sorry! but the art forum, as it stands, isn't the liveliest. I honestly don't see the harm in adding a little leeway for musicians. Music is art, after all. Not visual, of course, but I personally can't of a more fitting place than the art gallery, especially for created musical compositions. Maybe even move the C&M single thread to the art gallery.

Art Gallery - Drawings and music (music has been posted before, and allowed. Not so sure on now. but I know Ana might love the activity if it gets some xD)
    pixel art - pixels yada
g&p - photoshop stuff and pics, ya get the point.

I say sure. but who am i to say xD

The only time :a thread for all: thing should happen is if there is too much lets say one song threads. theres not allot.

I do agree, tbh. The music you've made is just as creative as art or graphics in themselves and I think they should be applicable to the "Creative Discussions" forum. Yeah, music has to do with culture and media but so does art - and I really feel like music is in itself more a creative outlet than a cultural one, though it is technically both. I myself would probably be okay with whichever but more people will be inclined to guess that their music that they come up with would belong in a place like the art subforums than C&M.

I don't see any reason why you couldn't post a gallery thread showcasing your musics. art comes in all forms and we don't and won't limit you to graphic or pixel art.

If you post song files, be sure to note the copyright and all that - prove they're yours - and that you are sharing with the users here to show off your arrangements.

I was figuring I'd provide links (Along with song descriptions) to an external music site where I have all my stuff already uploaded. O.o

Would that be alright or would I still need to put the copyright info right there near the link? (I can do that too. Would just take longer)

Also, thank you very much for giving me an answer. C= Especially one that made my day like so.

I think the only thing about using C&M vs Art Gallery is that while yes, music is most definitely an art, people tend to use Art Gallery for visual arts whereas C&M is specifically geared toward music, movies, etc. That's really the only reason we encourage people to use one over another. :x If you're looking for feedback from people who typically listen to and know a lot of music, C&M is just the better place to post.

As much as C&M is one of the 'lesser'-frequented forums on PC, you're more than welcome to advertise your music in that way. Regarding copyright, if you're doing your own compositions completely, then it shouldn't be necessary; covering stuff already under copyright would probably need some sort of info.
