4th Gen Advice needed

Hi everybody, i am a pokemon virgin, i need your help, pokemon diamond is the first pokemon game i have ever played (can you belive that?). It is fantastic, I have beat the elite 4 and i have my national pokedex, my problem is, as i have never played pokemon before i don't have the previous games ie: emerald fire red and the others, my question is can i complete my national pokedex with just trading or do i need to play the other games?

Well tradeing is your best bet unless you want to spend countless hours playing emerald and firered or leafgreen.

Or,borrow a pokemon from someone and give it back.

Every Pokemon from every previous game is available in some way in Diamond and Pearl, except for the starters and Legendaries. Outside of those, and version exclusive Pokes, you can catch every Pokemon yourself. If you have Wi-Fi, trading to get the starters shouldn't be a problem at all, so only get an older game if you want to catch the Legendaries.

I'd recommend Emerald, due to the cloning glitch, and the fact that you can get a semi-legit Mew, Deoxys, Ho-oh, and Lugia with an AR.
