After reading "Rate my BT team, I realize how fragile a Claydol is to sp.atks. I know Light Screen will remedy this, but I despratley need him for a Rapin Spinner, and especially a Stealth Rocker. I have Raichu with Light Screen & Light Clay, to try & fix this. But will this work? I need him as sort of a sweeper. Look at this:

    Raichu@Light Clay
    Nature:Timid
    Thunderbolt
    Grass Knot
    Nasty Plot
    Light Screen
    EV:252 SP.ATK, 252 SPEED, 6 SP.DEF

    And here's Claydol:

    Claydol@Leftovers
    Nature:Relaxed
    Earthquake/Earthpower
    Ice Beam
    Rapid Spin
    Stealth Rock
    EV:236 HP, 136 ATK/SP.ATK, 108 DEF, 30 DEF

Can someone also suggest a better EV spread for Claydol? One that utilizes both ATK & SP.ATK?

EDIT:HOLY CRAP, I DIDN'T MEAN FOR THIS TO BE THE TITLE...

Why Attack? Use Earthpower...and the EV spread is edited. Also, you have 108 DEF, 30 DEF...?

Horray, a post! Richard suggested that set for a Blissey counter, I believe. He is pretty good with Claydol. But the defense EV's, I'm a bit confused as to what you mean.

    EDIT: I meant 30 Sp.def, I'm sleepy.

    126 in which?

In your fist post, just look at the EV spread. The Defense Part doesn't make sense...you'll see, just read the EV spread.

I edited me second post. Have a gander.

I'd say Sp. Def, but defense is fine too. That way claydol walls special attackers with the help of light screen from raichu.

Both? Should I split in in half, or just put more in physical def?

I'd go one way or the other. Don't split the EVs.

Claydol will definately not wall a Special Sweeper for long. So pour all EVs into Defense which is lower anyways.

As for the Sp. Atk and Atk EVs you have to decide now. Is Claydols moveset more Special or Physical. Personally since you are running Ice Beam I would choose Earth Power over Earthquake. Sure it is 10 BP weaker but it benefits from the EVs in Sp. Atk. Not to mention you aren't using Explosion so you don't need attack.

Claydol shines as a Pokemon late game. Thus you always see Richard use it later in his matches. It gets slaughtered if its rivals such as bulky waters and ghosts arent eliminated.

    Here is my EV spread:

    252 HP / 200 Defense / 58 Special Attack

claydol in no way is fragile. it just happens to be a ground type with awesome defenses, but mediocre hp.

don't give it stealth rock. it doesn't have the time to use both rapid spin and stealth rock. the smartest thing to do with claydol is to switch in, use light screen to prevent ghosts from harming you while they block your rapid spin, and send in something more suited to take on that ghost if claydol can't handle it.

if you're going to use raichu, use it as a starter and give it focus sash. it really throws people off when you don't switch it out and continue to damage their pokemans.

    Raichu @ Focus Sash
    Modest Nature
    -Thunderbolt
    -Focus Blast
    -Grass Knot
    -Thunderwave

it should be able to 2HKO a standard garchomp with focus blast, which is perfect because the first turn they expect you to switch out and use swords dance, focus blast hits him. next, focus sash activates, and the second focus blast takes him out. hopefully, focus blast won't miss =/

you can also go with a Timid Choice Specs Raichu... that oughta be interesting.

Claydol can't be a Blissey counter. Most blissey carry Ice Beam, which will 2-3HKO Claydol I believe. Claydol's attack isn't good enough to beat blissey off. Also, I wouldn't run Light Screen on Raichu. It's way too fragile. Claydol can take a beating though. I wouldn't use Stealth Rock on Claydol. Claydol got better stuff to do.

Explosion in place of Stealth Rock could also work on Claydol as it has no means of HP recovery other then Rest. IT also isnt awfully slow either.

Man, I guess I gotta give up on Stealth Rock...or teach it to Torterra. May I teach Light Screen to Claydol? With maybe Light Clay?

Samson, I LOVE your Raichu set, although I have a Vileplume with Stun Spore, so I can hold off Stun Spore. Choice Specs. Hmm...
