I'm trying to train an Oddish, but I can't hatch a good egg. I'm trying to find one HP Fire copatible, but all I get is grass/poison.

But I did get ground. Is that good? I also got one with electric. Thats good too, right? Which is better?

Ground is versitile, taking out Rock (like that matters) Ice, I believe, and most of all, Fire. But its useless to Flying. Skarmory completly blocks Vileplume, as do Crobat. Electric is also versitile, hitting (without super-effective, but still hurting) most other types, without taking care of its weaknesses. It is vurnerable to Fire & Ice, but can take care of Skarmory & Crobat, as well as others with Levitate, such as Gengar, so I might go with that. Am I right with electric Hidden Power?

Ground is good against Fire types which can also combat Metagross. Electric is good against it's flying opponents. Which aren't common in the game. It can be depending on the Nature of the Oddish and the base power of Hidden Power.

Ok, now this is really confusing. I go to an IV calculator, and I put in Oddish's stats at lvl 18. It said Electric HP. Then I put that same Oddish's new stats after leveling up. Now it says dragon. Is this caculator broke, or what? Or does the HP change when level up until I actually put it on? Like if I put it on at lvl12 and it says Electric, would it be different if I put it on after lvl up and it says Ice? Cause I tried it before the calculator test at lvl one and it had different results on a Kecleon.

You must have accidentally changed the conditions of what made the IVs in the first place, or the IVs themselves. Once you calculate the IVs, then calculate the Hidden Power, you should stick with that. No further calculations regarding Hidden Power is necessary because it is based on the static IVs, and therefore, will never change in type or power.

Edit: Oh, and don't forget to factor in EVs and such correctly.

Ah, I see. I guess I'll just do the dumb Kecleon HP test...

HP fire is definitely worth the effort, but if you're content with HP electric, then it's workable. if you want to run hp electric, then its moveset should turn out to be Energy Ball/HP Electric/Sleep Powder/Substitute. if you are trying to go for a Sunny Day moveset to collide with Chlorophyll, then you definitely want HP Fire for the type boost. otherwise, you're just screwing you and your team by setting sunny day without getting some significant advantage out of it.

Sigh. I know, I know. I just don't like looking for a Kecleon in order to see which HP I have. They are sooo hard to find. Does any ingame trainer use Kecleon, or is there an easier way to see which HP I have?

Also, here was the set I was planning on running.

    Vileplume
    Energy Ball
    Sludge Bomb/Toxic
    Aromatherapy
    HP [Fire/Ice/Electric]

If you're still wondering if you have HP Electric or not, you could always use it on a Ground type and see if it misses.

Thats smart,, but what about fire? Who can I fight that is only weak to fire? Should I fight a Grass type, and then Ice type, to make sure it's not bug?

    Yea that could work. Although by the time you set up another Oddish with Hidden Power, hoping for HP Fire, it would be better if you could use the calculator instead. I only suggested the Ground test just to see the current Oddish's HP, but if you're gonna try for HP Fire, you will most likely have to breed some more. ^^;

I hate Hidden Power. I really, really do. Would you be able to recommend a nice calculator? This serebii one sucks like one of Garfield's jokes.

This might occur because the IV's change in the early levels. For example, in veekun.com it usually gives a range of IV's, and as you level, those IV's get more specific.

Oh, I see. Then at what lvl can I really be sure?

Lol, well, I use the serebii one actually. It worked fine when I had to calculate my HP, so I dunno...

Just when you do it, make sure you do it when it is freshily hatched, so EVs and such don't go and confuse you.

Yea, if you aren't calculating IVs at a high enough level, the chance of error can mess you up. To be completely sure, you should send the freshily hatched Oddish into a Lv. 100 Battle just to check the Oddish's stats at that level. Then enter those stats, level 100, and its nature, and you should have the correct IVs.

I get it. Other than Wi-fi, what other places offer lvl 100 battles? Battle Tower?

Well that's level 50, but that may work fine too. I never actually thought of that, but if you can check your stats there, it should be fine.

Edit: Oh wait, now I remember why that doesn't work. It doesn't set the level up to 50, rather it restricts it to 50 if you're over. So a freshily hatched one would still be level 1 I believe.

Basically, you're only way to accurately check it, aside from a Wi-Fi battle, would be to raise the Pokémon's level yourself...maybe using Rare Candies, if you have enough of them.

AUUUUUUGGGH. Then what can I do, please not wi-fi battles...

I dunno, can't really help you there. I use Wi-Fi battles myself, and luckily, my sister has a separate DS and game, so I just Wi-Fi battle against her to check.

If you want a quick check right now, I could help you with that. Just enter a battle with me, jot down the stats at level 100, and turn off the game.

If you want to go ahead and do this IV battle, you may want to raise additional Oddishes and stat check them all at once, since you are still hoping for HP Fire.

Oh, ok. I guess I need to first hatchbmore Oddish, hold up.

    Thanks for all the help.

Sure thing. I'm not really doing anything else anyway, and I'm too sick to go to sleep apparently. XD

And yea, an AR would help with that. You probably don't have to go all the way to 100, but I don't really know how high you have to go before the chance of error is gone.

Well anyways, I'll just be waiting for you to say to go on Wi-Fi. Just PM me when you're ready. Oh, and I'll have to ask that voice chat be off, as my throat is acting up and I can't talk anyway. When we're in battle, just jot down the 6 stats for each of your Oddishes, then turn off the game. Oh, and remember whose stats go to which Oddish, as you'll need the nature to go along with the stats.
