4th Gen All My Data Is gone-Why Is This?

    I had a 100% complete pokemon game save. Then i whent to go and transfer all of my game data to my pokemon battle revolution and after it was transfered i checked and it said" data corrupted"-I whent and checked and my data wasnt there?
    I know there is now way of getting it back though but i just wanna know people tell what you think it is that has happened-Remember i did NOT use action replay or anything related to that.

    There are some possible explanations...

    -cartridge is fake
    -cartridge was damaged

    Im not sure if there is one of those memory batteries inside the games like the old GBA cartridges had.
