Glitter Text Tutorial​

Requires: Photoshop CS2, ImageReady CS2

  1. Open a new image in Photoshop, whichever size you like. I went with 300x100.
  2. Create a new text layer. Don't bother with the colour, it won't show up later. For text, enter what you want your glitter text to display (in my case, Airashii, my username). Then move the layer as close to the center of the image as possible.
  3. Open the layers pane, and right click on our text layer. Then click 'Blending Options'.
  4. Click the row labelled 'Stroke'. Change 'size' to whatever you wish (I used 2px). Change the fill colour to whatever colour you want your outline to be (in my case, black #000000), then click 'OK'.
  5. In the layers pane, right click on our text layer. This time, click 'Rasterize Type'.
  6. Go to Filter -> Noise, then click 'Add Noise'. Change the distribution to 'Gaussian', and tick the box labelled 'Monochromatic'. For the amount of noise, use about 65-70%. You can use lower if you wish. When you're done, click 'OK'.
  7. Now, hold down the CTRL button on your keyboard, and press L. This will open the levels box.
  8. Click 'Options'. Change 'Shadows' to whatever background colour you would like, and 'Highlights' to whatever colour you'd like the glitter to be. When you're done, click 'OK', and then 'OK' again.
  9. Your text should now have an outline and glitter inside! Now hold down CTRL and press A, to select everything inside the box. After you've done that, hold down both Shift and CTRL, and press C. This will copy everything in that box to your clipboard.
  10. Open a new image in ImageReady, the same size as your Photoshop image. Then hold CTRL and press V, to paste your text.
  11. Go back to Photoshop, and using the history pane, undo back to 'Rasterize Type', then do steps 6-9 again. This time, instead of making a new image in ImageReady, just paste it into your existing animation. It will automatically be put onto a new layer.
  12. Now, in ImageReady, open the animation pane, then click on the first frame. At this point, there should be two layers in the layers pane. Click the eye beside the second layer, and it won't show on that frame. Then click on the arrow on the right of the animation pane, and then click 'New Frame'. A second frame will appear. Click on the second frame, and this time, click the eye on the first frame, so it doesn't show on that frame. Now, layer 1 will show on frame 1, and layer 2 on frame 2.
  13. Two frames isn't quite enough, so go back to step 11 one last time. This time, in ImageReady, after pasting the text, add a third frame, and make this frame display only the 3rd layer.
  14. At the bottom of the animation pane is a play button. Click that, and your text will spring into action. In most cases, this will turn out as desired, but if there's something you want to fix, feel free to go back and fix it.
  15. Now just go to File -> Save Optimized, and you're done!

For those of you who don't know how to do the transparency I did with mine...

  1. Before you save your animation, open the color table pane. You will see an alert arrow; click it, and the colours on that image will appear. Go down to the bottom right, and find the colour named #FFFFFF. This is white, your background colour. Click it.
  2. At the bottom of the color table pane, you'll see a number and 5 buttons. Click on the button directly to the right of the number, and your background is transparent! It won't appear to be in ImageReady, but then go to File -> Save Optimized, and it's done.
