    *waves* Hi friends!

So I recently finished Pokemon X for the first time. I plan on keeping this copy as my sort of "storage" copy. Mainly because I can't quite talk myself into restarting the game. Even with the Poke Bank. So I'm wondering if you can throw pros and cons for purchasing Alpha Sapphire over Pokemon Y? I'd greatly appreciate it. I know there are some key factors -- like no customization for avatars, different Pokemon, different stories, etc. Here's a few key questions I have though.

Is Pokémon-Amie a thing in Sapphire? Is it different than what is displayed in Pokemon X/Y? If not, we can still transfer these Pokemon via the Poke Bank into Pokemon X/Y, right?

What are your guys thoughts on this? I'm attracted to the idea of a new story to shake things up a bit. Still, even though I finished my first play through with Pokemon X, I still feel like I'm just getting my feet wet...

idk, I"m just being really indecisive with this. I could always get both, but that would come with time. So it would still be a question as to which one to get FIRST.

Get OR/AS the interface look and feel is nicer, the story is good there's lots of different pokemon and new mega's etc.

Yes Amie and super training are in OR/AS and are the same and yes you can transfer all pokemon from X to OR/AS via bank (just not backwards if they have certain moves).

X and Y are essentially the same game so not really worth getting both aside from pokedex completion sake.

If you're looking for a new story, Alpha Sapphire is definitely the way to go. As previously mentioned, it loses trainer customization, retains Amie, Super Training, and Bank functionality, and adds a number of Megas.

That being said, it sounds from your original post like you'd like to experience the XY story again (since you mentioned that you feel like you just began to get your feet wet with your first attempt). Is it the story that's leaving you feeling that way, or just the gen 6 mechanics in general? And have you played Pokemon in the past, or was X your first game? If you feel like you haven't had enough of the story yet, it may be worth seriously considering getting both Y and AS. I know you said that you want to pick one to get first, but keep your eyes open for multi-game in store discounts. They're rare, especially this time of year, but I've gotten games half off once or twice when buying multiple games through certain promotions.

I also don't like restarting my "main" game file, so I always pick up both versions so I can relive the experience, and personally, I think it's worth the cost. Do be aware that physical games seem to be starting to be a little more difficult to find these days, so if you want physical versions of both games, I would pick them up sooner rather than later (and definitely before gen 7 comes out). If you just want one game for now, I would still probably go with AS first at this point, as it's definitely worth experiencing if you haven't played it before. If you still want to return to Kalos afterwards pick up Y once you've beaten AS.

Regarding the physical copies, my go to is always Amazon. It has all of my games -- even the hard to find ones. I really would like to experience the story again, since it was my first step back into Pokemon since the original Game Boy. Especially now that I'm understanding the Pokemon world a little bit better. I'll probably get both eventually, but I'm also trying to be careful with my money and spending habits due to some personal situations. There was a time when I would have ordered both right away but I refuse to let myself do that this time around. I'm leaning towards Y right now, simply because I have a few things I'd still like to do with the game without restarting my first play through. Then, maybe next paycheck I'll get AS. Of course we can't forget Sun & Moon (lol, god, this is the problem with franchise games. So many to choose from).

There isn't much to XY that isn't in ORAS except a different story and customization. I would personally get ORAS, because I'm also poor as fudge, but it sounds like you're set on Y. Go for it! Although most people find XY versions a bit lackluster, I enjoyed playing through them just for the fact that the story and region is newer to me.

Things do sell out on Amazon occasionally/switch to third party sellers only eventually (which can be hit or miss in terms of pricing), but you'll probably be fine waiting for a while with Amazon. But yep, that's the blessing and the curse of Pokemon: lots of games to get, and always something to play, but also a fairly regular drain on your entertainment funds. And of course, you could always track down the DS entries and play those too, if XY and ORAS aren't enough...

And Sun/Moon are supposed to come out "holiday" 2016, so if you celebrate any holidays that time of year (or know anyone who does), maybe you can go the gift route for those and spare your wallet.

lol mainly for the fact that i understand how the game mechanics work and I'd like a game that I can use to level up Pokemon I breed in X. I feel like I would run into the same problem with ORAS that I did X -- which is that I'm so reluctant to restart my save file.

This is very true. I'm friends with a couple who are into Pokemon, and they both buy copies of the games for each other. I might be able to swindle a copy of Sun / Moon from them since we all like to spoil each other. XD

Since you've already enjoyed X, I would strongly suggest getting AS to maximise the experience for your money. Pokémon Y is not all that different from X, after all.

Take a stroll around Hoenn. ;D

I should point out that it's much easier to EV train in ORAS because there are routes where you can encounter specific hordes. So that's something to consider if EV training is important to you. It cuts down the time by a LOT.

Haha, I thought about it for a while longer and ultimately decided to get a digital copy of Y. I'll be purchasing a physical copy of Alpha Sapphire next pay check (depending... things aren't going so hot job-wise atm so it might be a while before I'm able to purchase another game). Eventually, I plan to get a copy of both Alpha Sapphire and Omega Ruby -- probably following the same format I did with X & Y (one physical, one digital). I do want to go as far back as the fourth generation and I also want to play the mystery dungeon games, so down the road I'll probably end up with at least one copy of every game.

/sigh I really hate franchises sometimes.

I don't go by EV's at the moment, as much as I like to breed. I go more for design and common-sense type of input. I'm really interested in ORAS, but I'm going to hold off for now. I have far too many games that I want to complete as well as books to read. As I mentioned earlier, I purchased a digital copy of Y to hold me over and at least give me a copy of the game I can restart any time that I want. Now I can spend as much time as I want building teams while also completing some of the other games I've been neglecting thanks to Pokemon's addictive gameplay. XD
