    All right; after searching for a bit, I've drawn the conclusion that this would be the proper place to start this thread. If I'm wrong, please, don't hesitate to inform me. I felt as though this didn't quite fit the prerequisites for the R&D thread, but I could be quite mistaken.

    At any rate, my name is Thoriére, or Thori, and I'm seeking advice on a subject I've deemed rather crucial. I've never liked the intro to FR as part of any hack I've done. It never seems to fit, and I just find the music and animations to be somewhat off-putting. I prefer the Ruby intro, but at the pleas of my fellow ROM hackers, I've made the executive decision to begin my work anew on a fresh BPRE 1.0 ROM. However, the intro is an immense bother; to put it simply, I loathe the thing.

    Now, after that possibly pedantic exposition, I have a question. Would it be at all possible to change some aspect of the intro? I don't mean the GameFreak logo bit; there are enough tutorials on altering that to fill an ocean, and then some. I would like to change this part, and the animation that goes with it:

    I can only assume that this would require extensive hex-editing and/or use of uNLZ-GBA, but how I might go about doing it is rather murky territory for me. If anyone that may know how to do this can help, or perhaps direct me to someone that does, I would quite appreciate it.
     
    Doing the stuff in that little outdated post will get you something like this (Which I did)

    Of course you'd need extensive C and GBA knowledge to pull it off.

    Unfortunately, I haven't quite mastered C to that extent, but I may know people who can help me out if I get in a tight spot. That's a really nice intro, though... I'm hoping I'll be able to pull it off.

    Ah! Thank you very much! I'm currently fleshing out the story and executing some basic scripts, but if I do need help once I begin the hex editing, I'll certainly hit you up; the offer is much appreciated.

    You should consider doing the intro first, since once you do you'll be able to do anything after that considering how easy it'll be :D

    This is a really interesting topic actually! Say you didn't wanna edit the animations or anything, but just the sprites and background - that could be done with UNLZ and APE, right? =3

    Correct me if I'm wrong, but I do believe that would be possible; it seems like the animations and their frames would be stored in uNLZ-GBA, considering that most compressed LZ77 graphics are in there somewhere. It would probably be tricky, but if someone were to locate the numbers (and I think someone has) it would just take a little of precision and a lot of time.

    But really, don't quote me on that, because I have no idea what I'm talking about in the factual sense. It would be possible in theory, but perhaps not reality.

    I know I'll at least try to get that special customization in there, though it certainly can't be easy.
     
    It's not that I wouldn't like to try, I just thought it would be cool to keep the Gengar and Nidorino battle but change the background and sprites for the idea I had, but true I didn't think about the cries/animations and all that stuff =P

    Good luck pencil-fetish hope it goes well for you! =) and GoGo although I'm sure you've heard this already, your custom intro is awesome. It must have taken a long time!
