In advance I'd just like to say sorry if this is the wrong place to post this. Mods, please move the thread if there's a better forum for it.

So here's a fakemon I've been bouncing around in my head.

    Type: Normal/Ice
    Ability: Toxic Boost
    Stats: 125 HP, 115 Atk, 55 Def, 50 SpAtk, 55 SpDef, 100 Speed

    Signature move:
    Transfer
    80 bp, Ice type, Physical
Deals damage then transfer's any negative status conditions the user has to the target. (Like a damaging version of Psycho Shift)

The general idea I wanted to go with was a Guts user that could pass its condition off onto its target.
Guts itself would be far too powerful. Imagine a Pokemon with 115 Atk and Guts hitting you with a Guts-boosted 80bp STAB move that has a 100% chance to burn... yikes!
I went with Toxic Boost because it limits the options for the Pokemon, encourages counterplay, and lends itself to niche tactics.

    For example:
If you have a bulky ghost or water type with will o wisp or scald, you can let the opposing Pokemon use Transfer to nail you with Toxic, then burn it while it's no longer Poisoned.
Or if you're using this Pokemon but you know the upcoming gym has a physical attacker that's very dangerous, you could use a Flame Orb instead of a Toxic Orb. You lose the Toxic Boost but you still have a boosted Facade you can use, and then you can pass the burn onto other physical attackers with Transfer. Like a defensive support role, sort of.
You could even go fully defensive, investing into Def or SpDef instead of Speed and letting the large HP pool ensure you can survive against some Pokemon (though your typing makes that somewhat difficult!).

Transfer also has unusual defensive properties. Being able to constantly pass your own Toxic off onto opposing Pokemon means you don't take Toxic damage at the end of the turn, and the damage of the Toxic is reset each time you transfer it. You're on a timer but it's much more lenient than other mons.

What do you guys think? Would something like this be balanced? Would it be fun to use one? Would you have fun fighting them in tough battles?

  • This is a really cool idea! Hp stat is pretty high though, you might want to lower it a little and move some of the points onto its defenses and special attack (even if it doesn't use it at all, just to balance it.)

    Yo. Thanks for the insight.

The reasoning behind the high HP with low defenses is that he takes a lot of damage from hard hits but can shrug off weaker hits. This is done for several reasons:
    1. To encourage passing his status onto others. Because Toxic deals %HP damage, that buffer of HP he has can be quickly depleted if he's aiming for Facades or Ice Shards too often.
    2. To encourage SE counterplay. Ice/Normal is not a good defensive typing by any means. Low defenses means super effective damage will deal a lot of damage, so he can't easily stay in on Steel types or Fighting types that can threaten him with a hard hit.
    3. To give him some form of defensive presence. He can shrug off small hits, like resisted ice attacks or neutral priority. This gives him some risky opportunities to switch in, meaning he doesn't always have to come in on a safe switch.

His stats effectively look higher than they actually are. He has a lot of HP, but doesn't have the defenses to back it up, and he's dipping into his HP pool if he wants to pull out his main sources of damage. In that respect he's closer to Drifblim, or Wailord, or Hariyama, but with a defensive typing worse than any of the three.
