And so, it begins again...

It happened for the first time in 1982. And then, it repeated itself in 2006. And now, as predicted by experts, it already begins yet again... In 2010. And a few hours ago, the first action went on. Yes, people... It's time for:

The Third Lebanon War. The third war to be fought between Lebanon and Israel.

In 1982, Israel complete and utterly trashed Lebanon. It's official, obvious, and out of question.

In 2006, Israel got much more opposition, and even though they had a massive power advantage against Lebanon and killed more of them, then Lebanon was able to stop Israel from reaching their goal with great strategically fought warfare.

But 2010 might be hard for Israel, because...

    1) Although Lebanon is their "main rival", Israel is tired from their constant fighting with both Lebanon and other opponents.
    2) USA always interferes with the wars, and now, Obama is in office, and he is very anti-Israeli.
    3) Hezbollah of Lebanon works closely together with Hamas from Palestine now. Although Hamas is weak, it's still a plus, seeing as Hamas can attack Israel from other angles, and thus prove a great strategic tool for Hezbollah.
    4) Hezbollah has bought many thousands of weapons from Russia. They're much more well-equipped now than they were in 2006.
    5) Israel is generally hated by other countries in the world now, due to the Gaza Aid Fleet accident. Some unexpected guests might interfere, and by the way...
    6) Some more EXPECTED guests might, or rather, WIL interfere. Lebanon got allies all over the close Arab world, Israel doesn't. This will be against more opponents than just Lebanon alone.

Will this be the last war of Israel? The Arab countries doesn't have the mercy of Israel; if Israel loses, it is done for. And the Arab countries has wished for Israel's destruction for a long, long time...

The little action that happened a few hours ago doesn't really say much about the outcome of this war, but it did indicate that the Israeli soldiers are still the better trained ones; the Lebanese soldiers attacked first, yet they only killed 1 Israeli soldier, where as the Israeli soldiers killed 3 Lebanese soldiers. And now, Israel is smashing the village from which the Lebanese soldiers attacked... With missiles.

Israel is aggresive this time; desperate. Can it win this battle, once and for all, and put an end to Lebanon? Or will Lebanon destroy Israel, and finally reach their dream of the century? Let's see, people, 'cus this is going to be VERY exciting.

Honestly i think this war will be like all the others. It should be over in about two weeks. I lol at the fact that they have a war called the 6 day war. Israel doesn't need much support considering their military is extremely modernized compared the other Arab nations around it. The fact that the Lebanons are using old russian weapons also makes me lol. A couple guys with AKs don't stand a chance against a trained soldier with a M16 or Tar 21.

I think all wars are stupid. Very rarely is war justified.

I'm on Israel's side though. They're surrounded by countries that hate it Jordan is tolerant of Israel and they signed a treaty with Egypt though. And the Lebanese attacked first. So..

You make it seem like a game, and I take issue with that, but I'll put my feelings about that aside. It was probably unintended, anyway.

This is a very serious issue, as are most things involving the Middle East. It's unfortunate that circumstances led to this, as it'll doubtless lead to many more deaths. I can only hope this ends soon and without too much bloodshed, though I'm not holding my breath. The situation in the Middle East and the world in general is highly volatile right now, and this could set off a chain reaction with consequences none of us can foresee.

That said, Israel has done a lot in recent times to sully their reputation in my eyes (the aid fleet being one of the worst, but certainly not the only incident), and I have less sympathy for them than I might otherwise. Much of the international community is either refusing to help Israel or outright condemning them. Even the United States is refusing to make a move, a rather surprising move in my eyes. In light of this, I think Israel will try to reach an agreement soon.

Again, this will be a quick, alibeit bloody skirmish, and israel will use all its War goodies they got from the US and the UK to beat lebanon/hezbollah into submission, again. Israel is known for brutal retribution, if lebanon makes a move, they will retaliate, Hard. It will be bloody and merciless, but that's warfare for you. It isn't pretty. Never has been, never will be.

Should israel lose, they wont fall/be done for. the international community wouldnt allow an invasion of Israel, or they wouldn't allow it to be conquered. All the USA and Britain would have to do is to flex a little Military muscle and scare everybody back down

I have bets the Cardinals will beat the Giants

that is what this thread is about, right?

And...why exactly is there a war again? Religious dispute? Territory? Money? The other country just sucks...? I mean, WHY?

what would you do if your country was surrounded by other countries bent on destroying you and kill all you people because you're a jew? If they attack, you attack harder and make sure they don't come back at you.

Im not saying they're at fault for retaliating, i wouldn't blame them for being on the offensive. Israel's situation is unique, like you said. They are surrounded by nations that want them all dead. They have a Right to defend themselves just as any other nation does if they are attacked. After the horror they endured at the hands of the Germans during the holocaust they have a right to be suspicious and to protect themselves as they see fit.

However, the issue is, how to respond to an attack. Israel can defend herself and her Homeland, sure, but annihilating Lebanon in the process wont bring any sort of lasting peace, and it will only sow more and more hatred.
