Suggestion: Anti-Ninja feature

Honestly, I'd rather not click preview or "Go Advanced" because it defeats the point of the quick reply box. I'd rather be notified if someone else posted before I submitted my own post.

This isn't an idea because I'm sore about being ninja'd, just something I seriously think should be implemented, and have SEEN implemented on places all over the 'net. It's not that difficult and it's not even resource heavy since this can be done purely via JS, and it's so simple that even I could probably write the code myself if given the resources to do so. x3

To be honest I find being ninja'd as amusing as ever, but it does get a tad annoying if you're having a crummy day. :/
Do not belittle that, you know how immature some people can be.
The sole purpose of Quick Reply is to make a quick reply, without any hassle of using various needs like in Advanced Reply, you just make a post and edit if someone beats you to it.

First of all I don't even think you read my posts fully. The implementation of this wouldn't require mucking around with serverside coding. Just adding some JS is enough to do the job. The JS may indeed make one extra query, but the rest of the information it needs is right there in the page when it loads, and can likely be found by it.

Secondly, I've hopefully provided a counter-suggestion to every concern brought forth. I recognize they're valid, but some of them are just as insignificant as my reasoning, not wanting to make a few extra clicks.

In regards to your idea, it's actually not a bad one. It does sound decent. However, the issue isn't heavy enough to say we actually need this right now. To be honest, I don't think PC really needs it at all. Yes, getting ninja'd can be annoying, but is it really that hard to take a minute or two (give or take a few seconds) to go back and edit / delete your post accordingly?

...and David brings up a good point. If PC has to constantly be loading to update you with any posts that have been made while you were setting up a reply, then it's only going to cause potential lag on the site (Do I know that for sure? No, but it's not worth the risk, especially when we don't exactly need it).

You only need to make a couple of clicks the way things are now. Clicks.

The point about PC not being stable wasn't for queries sake, it was regarding actually going around in the ACP and installing a plug-in or whatever it would take to make your idea work. I think the general consensus here is that it probably won't be happening anyways, though.

And blue eyes white dragon has a solid point as well.

Well the time argument is as insignificant as the clicks argument, even if it is valid.

And if the server is honestly in such an unstable state...then it is indeed a very valid and very significant point, if you're not over-extending the extent of the server's actual instability.

So I think the question is, for the sake of server, and not risking it.. could you live without having that feature for now? I mean, no one can say what'll happen in the future, but for now not having it isn't all that awful. D:

Well, you've made it clear you have no intention of listening to anyone's opinion other than your own (which is a horrible strategy for pitching an idea btw). The extent to which the argument can be taken in this thread has probably been maxed out at this point.

Thanks for the suggestion. If any staff see it as viable for any reason in the future I'm sure it will end up being presented in a staff forum, but for now this threads seems to have served it's purpose.
