Any Pokemon near mountains?

I live near an active volcano and am considering a day trip to go Pokemon hunting. Google searches have led to some speculation of what types of Pokemon might be found in similar areas, but I couldn't find any threads about any success stories. Has anyone here actually tried out Pokemon Go on a mountain or volcano, and what did you find?

That'd certainly be interesting! It's worth an adventure to find out, I'm sure.

Just be aware, however, that GO is completely dependent on GPS to spawn Pokémon. So if you don't get very good reception in the mountains or near the volcano, or what-have-you, you probably won't be seeing much of anything at all. ): It's kind of a bummer, and it really limits the sense of adventure this game is supposed to be all about... but typically, the more rural and out-of-the-way areas of the world = little to no Pokémon.

Good luck though! Let us know!

I've been wondering the same thing as I have a 2 month trip to Iceland coming up this winter.

    Update:

The husband and I took a trip up the south side of Mt St Helens yesterday (out through Cougar) and could not log on to Pokemon Go at any point up there. Definitely no 4G, or even 3G... I probably had enough reception that I could have sent out a text in some spots, like near campgrounds and the main tourist attractions, but that was about it. So basically until the volcanos get wifi coverage no one will be catching any Magmar from their craters...

Aww, that's disheartening to read! ): I was hoping you'd report back with an inventory full of Magmar... haha.

Still, it's expected with the way GO and GPS work. Coverage and GPS are getting better every day, so perhaps sometime in the near future we'll be able to simultaneously enjoy nature while nabbing up a few Pokémon to boot.

Hope you and your husband still had a great time though. :)

I sure hope there are Pokemon near the Mountains as next month my family is taking a week long vacation to Gatlinburg, Tennessee right near The Great Smoky Mountains. I am hoping for some different Pokemon to pop up while I am there.

From what I've seen it's pretty hard to find Pokémon in areas like that unfortunately. Ignoring the internet connection struggles, Pokémon aren't seemingly set to spawn in these kinds of areas as much as built up areas. We have a big forest next to our village which is baron of any signs of Pokémon (with working internet) but as soon as you get back into civilisation you're swarming with them again. Not sure how intentional any of this is but hopefully it's fixed at some point because these are really the areas you're most wanting to explore.
