I only know maybe 10 or 15 words, and they're just things like neko = cat, arigatou = thank you, kirei = beautiful, shiroi = white, etc. So it's pretty useless in my case XD. The only real sentence I can say is "my name is ____". My grandpa is in the navy and he can sort of understand it though. Once he read part of a pamphlet that had been translated into Japanese out loud in English.

I dont any any Japanese words and i cant understand it, but Japan is really cool. I want to visit it when Im older. Its kawaii! I just read above and find out it meant cute XD

Well...I can read both hiragana and katakana since those are just plain easy. (Just memorise them and you're set...seriously, anyone can do it.) Sadly, my vocabulary isn't up to par with my reading...so I can tell you what it says, but I won't be able to tell you what it means. XD; I can read about 100-150 kanji, give or take a few, but when it comes to actually writing them...I don't know nearly as much. ;_;'

Speaking the language is a whole other story...I'm okay with the written language, but I'm not good at picking it up by ear or physically speaking it. Unlike French, I've only been learning Japanese in a school setting for about 2.5 years now--and even then it's only on Saturdays, so I don't get nearly as much practise as I'd like since there's no one I know who speaks the language natively other than my actual teacher and I don't have time for anime, etc. anymore...so that's definitely got a hindering effect on my fluency. :\ I probably couldn't get by if I were to go to Japan right now. I need a lot more practise before I could be at all useful in the country.

I'm currently in my last year of [high school] Japanese, so hopefully by the end of it I'll be better with translating it, etc. But for speaking, I'm going to have to either look into conversational lessons or find someone with whom I can speak on a regular basis or something to bump up that fluency level. <_<;; (I've never been really good at *speaking* other languages though...much better with the written language. XP)

I used to be oh-so-obsessed with all things Japanese and the like, but over the past few years that's worn off. I'm still interested, but I don't care nearly as much as I used to. I'm still planning a trip to Japan with a few friend at the end of high school but I doubt I'll live there or anything like my plans were a while ago. (I wanted to teach English in Japan but...that's so...clich?d. XD Plus, it'd involve kids and I hate them so...blah.)

っていうか俺日本人だし

Hi, I'm Japanese.

I speak it all the time at home, and to keep my knowledge upto standards, since I live in Hong Kong, I goto a Japanese education centre to learn about the current state of Japan and its relationship with foreign countries (AKA current affairs).

Altough people think I'm bilingual, and indeed I'm comfortable to talk in both English and Japanese, my Kanji is a little below average, I'm a bit more used to write in English.

I lived in Japan for four years... and I barely know any Japanese xD
Basically, I can say some greetings, count a little, and that's it. Oh, and ask where the toilet is (ain't that random?).

I got this learning CD and book thingy last Christmas and have been studying it alot lately. So, I know quite a bit of Japanese. My favorite Japanese word is "midori"
I'm ubsessed with saying that! ^^

Other than the hiragana and katakana alphabets, I've just about forgotten the Japanese language. Hopefully, I'll be able to return studying Japanese sometime this year; I plan on becoming somewhat fluent in some foreign language since I currently don't have enough foreign language credits to get into the university I want to.

yeah, I can speak and read Japanese. I know what you mean, Midori Chi, lots of people I know like to say "midori" ^_^ It's also a popular name for girls.
